Here's one for ya, being that my family grew up in Chicago my dad's dad ran whiskey in his day my father would tell me of Capone giving him and his friend's nickles for ice cream as my grandfather watched from his porch, now on my mothers side she has been to capone's house in St. joseph Michigan when she was a teenager with her mother (my grandmother ) be cause my mothers aunt was one of capone's women "really". So growing up on Paw Paw Lake in Coloma Michigan there was a ole man very italian cou;dn't speak english well that would fish all the time with his cane pole so i'd sit with him talk with him he had a mean german shepard named Prince but if Joe was with you Prince was like a puppy, at times he would have me in for a pop nice ole man, anyhow I asked my mother as i grew older why she was so nervous about me going down and sitting with ole Joe and she told me that Joe was one of Capone's men she remembers from visiting his home in St.Joe till this day i read about that era.

I have a stone from a foundation of a burned down cabin that was alleged to have belonged to Al Capone. The lot was near a cabin/house my father and some friends rented at a lake near Baldwin.

I am looking for a connection with Al Capone and Frankfort, Michigan. Something about a home with a cell in the basement and connecting tunnels to the theater and other places in Frankfort so that he could move about the town unseen.
Hello Frank. In high school I had a friend that lived in this house at the end of main street. I have been in the basement and have seen the "cell" but I have never seen the tunnel to the theater. There is a spot in the wall of this basement that has been bricked shut that could possibly be the tunnel. I have heard of the tunnel by many different people but have never been through it. The tunnel would have to be quite long. The theater is around 300-500 yards away. My friend and his family never found any good evidence that would link the old gangster to this house but it makes for a cool history of the house. I am not sure of the address but it is the brick house at the end of main street on the right by the beach.

Per,
Had a question. My wife and I moved to Fremont in 2004. I was working with a guy 2 years ago who said Al Capone had a hideout off of Stone Rd. south of M-20 in northern Newaygo county. Wondered if you had any insight into this.
Yes it is yellow. Where the sand pit is in town by railroad tracks. Its to the right on a hill. My family lived down the road. He was a very twisted man.

In Livonia there was a 2 story decrepit building that was the club house for a run down golf course. Rumored to be a Purple Gang night club which back the would have been deep in the woods. One time I snuck off through a doorway and found myself in this incredible ballroom with old burgundy velvet curtains and killer deco treatments with a stage in the center. Cob webs everywhere. The garage was huge as well I guess to fit those big cars..The old guy at the counter always said the place was always a public golf course period! Upstairs lived an old lady that would yell out the window to "tee off already!" True stuff. It's long gone now. it was around the 7 mile and Beck Road? area
I grew up at 7 mile and Newburg road in Livonia and the old golf course you are talking about was the Northville country club at one time. The owners name was Bob and he used to chase us kids off the course all the time. The old lady was his mother. The building was really creepy and we used to go in it some times in the winter. It was right on the corner of 7 mile and Newburg. I had heard that it was a hang out for the purple gang for years growing up. It was there the entire time I was a kid back in the 70's too bad they tore it down.

I was told, urban or rural legend that capones house was the last house on Garfield road in Benona township in Oceana county, michigan. As you go west up the hill to lake michigan at stony beach it is the last house on the right. I heard he had a tunnel leading to the creek just up from the boat launch. Maybe true I dont know for sure
It was the rum runners house all right. Booze was transported from Windsor, ON in the inner tubes of cars to the Stony Lake channel house. The complex includes a home on top of the sand dune, a guard house to the East and a two story garage. Capone bought a "right of way" from a woman who owned a home further to the East on Garfield Rd so he could put in a road. Her granddaughter still owns the house and confirmed this story. There are still pilings of the dock on the Oval Beach.

The house in St. Joseph was across the river from Berrien Hills Country Club,(just gone public). A girl I went to school with at St. Joe High lived in this house in the early 70's. One of our teachers, Mr. Hunt, the science teacher, played golf with Al Capone at Berrien Hills.

I've been in that house more than once. It's old but beautiful inside. It could be a showstopper with some work. I asked the owner at the time about the rumors of Al Capone living there. He said that wasn't true but that Al Capone had visited back in the day. Too fun as I grew up in Stony Lake.

I live in Ga. now but for 54 years I lived in South Haven Mi. There on No. Shore Dr is a place called Sleepy Hollow, it used to be a resort, but the "BIG HOUSE" still stands on the property. Al stayed there too. There is a tunnel from the "house" to the beach with a beach house.
Just No. of South Haven in Cassco Twp is McDowell Cemerty. It is said that Al's Misstress is buried there, her name is "FLORIA" and there is a large tomstone for her there.
yrs ago my grandmother was in a nursing home in GR Mi alittle lady across the hall beckoned me over and proceeded to tell me she was Capones mistress and went on a ocean cruise with him and he was a wonderful man. Went to visit Floras' grave wondering if this was her-while at cementary a bright red round light appeared directly on her red stone-only light in whole cementary I and my husband were really perplexed and he is a skeptic and I am convinced it's her!!! Wish I could remember little lady's name but this was in 70's and I was so intrigued but no name comes to me interesting stuff hey!! thanks!!
