I remember watching it with my dad. My dad was from Confluence and knew everyone involved. I don't think it was a full length movie. I believe it was a TV show called "Wanted" or something like that. It was a long time ago and just can't quite remember the name of the show for sure.

I just googled it and found a copy of an old newspaper.

Ned ( police chief) shot and killed: William Wallace Conway and his son Donald Wayne Conway. This was in 1951.I really think that the Tv movie was about Pug Murphy who shot Ned the police chief.

I could be wrong it's been a long time ago.

OK THANKS. I can just remember watching it on T.V. with my dad. He knew Pug and the Police chief as he lived there from 1907 until about 1941. Pop couldn't wait to see anything about Confluence on t.v. He retired in 1964 and moved back home to Fort Hill ASAP.
We lived in Ohio but his mind was on Confluence/Fort Hill every day.

I was only about 13 or 14 when it was on the t.v. Looking forward to your story.

Thanks,

Freddy

I do know a Raymond Tressler.? if you dad. I will find out/

Now the story I know. Pug Murphy: He was not a bad person. Just let the booze and wild women get the best of him. He did shoot at Ned Holt, Some say, he hit Holt in the right ear. Others say Ned cut his to blame Pug. Being a Police Officer a Federal Crime.

There was a T.V. program called WANTED which aired on the last Tuesday of each month. They came into Conflunce and made a 30 minute story about 5 foot 2 big bad Pug Murphy. Most of the filming took place in and about Confluence. Showed men running with torch's at night running up Sunshine hill trying to catch Pug.
Never happen. Showed Eli Rugg from the Dumas area on his back porch making Moonshine.Eli stated he had made moodshine for over 60 years an had no plans on stopping. Not true, maybe 50 years. When Pug's wife died the FBI was all over town sure Pug would come to the Funeral Home and try to see her. He did and he was taken in under dark by a friend. " Signed the guest book ". Later in his life when all stettled down Pug came to the Conflunce area. He stayed with his close friends. Rita Kemp mother and dad. Rita is still living and is on here sometime under RITA from Texas. I meet Pug twice and he wouldn't talk about his life. Just would say yep I'M Pug. Never hunt anyone, four or two legged. I enjoyed him.

His son Frank lives in Confluence and 90% of the people have no idea who and what his father was or did. PUG ended up a folk hero.

At least in my heart. Pug is dead and I do not know where he is buried for sure. Will find out a let you all know.

Sorry if hard to read, not to swift typing with one hand.

Thanks for the story. I remember watching that exact tv show but couldn't remember all the details.

My dad (Raymond) died in 1991 and my mother Mary (Vought)Tressler died in 1996. They are buried at the Silbaugh Church on the Fort Hill road. I think someone on the forum said awhile back that there were two Raymond Tresslers in the area.

This from the Pittsburgh Press of May 2, 1951:
http://news.google.com/newspapers...

This is what I used for my search on "Google" : POLICE CHIEf SHOT CONFLUENCE
That gave me the paper article about the chief and the Conways.

It is now owned by Dave Suder, it is where the Bus garage is. I remember Mrs. Conaway that lived there.. she had apple trees in her front yard.. LOL

You just jogged my memory!(lol) I remember those aple tree's now that you mentioned it! I do recall someone saying that Suder's owned the place now.I am talking about the place wheere they park the buses. That is where the Comways lived. Remember they tore the house down many many years ago. It was by the stop sign. I'm referring to the Conways that the cop shot.

I'm thinking her name was Mary Conaway. Also, didn't she have a son George? He owned the Clover Farm store ?? I may be wrong..

But yes it is where the big blue building is now, where they park the buses.

I loved those apple, and we use to can them..:)
