The S.S. OFD is taking on water. Several of your top brass already jumped on the first life boat. Quit sunning yourselves and get with the 21st century. It's not about the firefighters..it is about the citizens.

Dear Hello, your a uneducated idiot about this and most likely a Orange County Firefighter hiding behind your silly name. Why on earth would a city resident want to merge fire services to lesson there protection. OFD is currently ranked a 1 by the ISO. Orange is a 5 and 9. That alone, is a significant difference in our service. Get off the bandwagon thinking bigger is better. OFD is half the size and one third of the cost over OCFRD. Our upper brass that has recently "jumped" had 20 years, the other 28 years.

This coming from the mayor whose entire time in office has been a re-election campaign?

Another great city with an ISO of 1 is Apopka. Maybe bigger is not better, maybe it is. But your brass that jumped ship each went to a county fire department. One went to a county fire department that consolidates with other fire departments. The other went to a county fire department to the south will not rule out consolidation talks with other entities. Thats how much your brass cared about the future of OFD. Keep sunning on the deck chair!

Apopka has the same class of service, an ISO of 1. Maybe Apopka can run
Orlando. Orlando should compare the incomes of each of the two Class 1 fire departments. Apopka is ranked ISO of 1 without all the fluff.

Why does the Slantinel and the OCFD only want to merge with Orlando? What about winter park, apopka, and Ocoee? I smell a rat.

It will me funny if it happens and city residents have to pay a fire fee for it just like Winter Springs did when seminole took over. No matter what you will still need the both hazmat teams and all special rescue teams. IT is not like the area will be smaller or the call volume will go down. So much for saving money. If merging is so great then why is the county not going after all cities in OC just Orlando. Maybe the city should take over the county. BUt then county will not have a chance to be come a city. Also they say it works in Miami Dade but Miami, Miami Beach, Hialeah, Coral Gables and Key Bicayne all have there own fire departments.

True. And OFD brass never brought a building down on two firefighters. Or...maybe it was that superior training that they have.

Davis that is messed up and a low blow. I guess you forgot the OCFR had two guys die when a roof fell in on them.

It fell on them because there was fire in attic area and a draft situation was set up. You could see it on arrival and these two guys were sent in anyway. They didn't know not to pull the ceilings because they were never taught. They were killed not because of anything they did but because of the incompetence of the the first due command.
It didn't have to happen. One was a friend of mine and died for no good reason other than a failure of command, lack of SOPs and lack of training. Read the report.

Typically, the Sentinel is wrong. Lake Mary is not and will not merge with Seminole County. After the debacle of merging the dispatch, that will NEVER happen. Lake Mary's FD bails out the County FD 3 times for every call in their city.

orlando sentinel,
Can you see what your doing. Please shut down this post. Your doing nothing political, but you are pitting brother against brother( or sister). Powerful poloticians nor concerned residents want to wade through this fowl thread to get much needed info. It seems you are trying to instigate trouble, and doing a good job of it. To all those who really want the scoop you can obtain either study through a public records request. Go this route, then you will be informed, and have solid foundational questions to ask your local reps. For the love of our brotherhood please stop.

"Much needed info" From fake names? From who knows who? You can over estimate the powerful polititians but don't under estimated the concerned citizens. It's a blog.

However, loss of a firefighter is a tragedy, and most of all a personal tragedy to the family suffering the loss. Please respect thier loss and don't use them or their deaths as rocks to throw.

Lets get the facts straight. All of the departments within Seminole County run on one dispatch. Simular polices, same medical director. Consolidaion within Seminole would be a much easier task then both Orlando and Orange. Which are 2 entirely different departments from all aspects. As for the other chief going to the county south of the city. He had 28 years and was in his final year of retirement. Nice try though "Ray".

28 years! Sold out the history and future of OFD to go double dip. Now he is sitting on the otherside of the consolidation fence. Thanks Chief.
