Just another Florida scam artist at work. There so many of them at such a high % of the business people here, it is very hard to keep out of their path!
"We have 580 houses to get built, and we're going to get it done," Weiker said. I don't think that they ever planned on building them, just scam people off and hit the road!

When you have been bankrupt 3 times, you have pretty much never done what you promised. No bank anywhere will touch that project - those people are out the money it looks like.

These people are working very hard to make their American dream and it's not right that this company is keeping them waiting. What about the interest that the building company is accumulating?

That's why you should never buy a house that you can't move into tomorrow. Pictures of something that isn't even built, why would anyone in their right mind spend 360k on a house they have only seen in drawings. I am not saying it's right that these people will probably loose all that money, but hopefully it will teach everyone else a lesson. There are too many factors beyond a developers control for him to truthfully be able guarantee anything about a development. Buy it after you have walked inside and opened the cabinets.

The developers should be put in jail and throw away the key.

How does someone with 3 bankruptcies gat a state contractor’s license? DBPR must have been asleep on that day.

Seize all of their assets and sell them to pay off the monies owed to these people that made a deposit.

This is a perfect example to prove that licensing solves nothing.

I say again put these bastards under the jail and throw away the key. They should be treated just like a drug dealerand have anything that they or their wife owns taken away.

How many places do you want them to be a one time. They are not the Construction police. People should be checking with the Better Business Bureau and protecting themselves before buying anything. I never even heard of this builder and I sure would not have given them any money.

This deal is going nowhere and the State Attormey's office should be seizing everything in sight.

With nearly 600 homes contracted and 0 in progress clearly this developer/builder has stepped over a multitude of legal lines. Not long ago, homebuyers were bilked by the builder with two names and as "Burned" mentioned, the financial hocus pokus has has a common history.

This is what happens when someone who does not know what he is doing gets in over his head. He sees other developers making big money and wants his share. WEll guess what? You have to know what you're doing or you will get burned...and you'll take everyone else down with you!

Its no wonder why construction has the most unsuccessful startup rate out of any other business...

Don't just trust a developer/builder to treat you right. DO some research on the company beofre you buy.

These houses won't get built and hsould not get built.

Hire a lawyer and try to get your money back! Good luck...sounds like he spent most of it...

Licensure isn't very effective, that is for sure. Developers should be required to put all deposits in protected escrow accounts, and they should NOT be able to take deposits without letting customers know UP FRONT whether they have all the permits, financing, etc. In securities trading, so many disclosures are required, but for a homebuilder, any bankrupt with a contractor's license can just start printing brochures and collecting money.
