There is so much to comment about this studio it is difficult to find a proper starting point so I will just start from the beginning. Last year, my daughter auditioned for and was accepted into the company competition team as well as the Magic Mini team. We were all so excited for the prospect of a new and exciting season full of positive dance experiences. We quickly learned that this studio (that incidentally was opened under a different name due to the director having to file bankruptcy for the old studio, which was named “Starz Studios, Inc.”) was riddled with drama and had a completely toxic environment. At the very center of all of the drama was the director herself, which made it very difficult to discuss or try to correct issues that would arise. The season began with a 3 ½ hour “parent meeting” where the director verbatim read through a 7-10 page “contract” outlining all of the things the parents would have to agree to and sign. The contract was completely one-sided and protected the studio 100% while not taking any consideration for the parent or dancer. I will admit this should have been a red flag but we didn’t anticipate events that would follow so we signed the contract and began the season. Slowly we learned that the director was very unapproachable unless you belonged in her circle of parents. I learned very early on that asking questions of any kind resulted in the director taking things out on my daughter as well as her being very disrespectful toward me. The director also showed blatant and extreme favoritism to a certain group of dancers, while barely acknowledging others. This behavior was shone in front of the dancers many times. We also learned that she was all about winning, regardless of cost, inconvenience, etc. Everything revolved around acknowledgement with the FDC and gaining “FDC Points”. Because of this not all dancers were taught equally. There was a small group of dancers that received more technical training and they were used in every routine to basically carry the routine while the rest of the dancers did less technical dance steps in the background. In addition to this, there was zero customer service. We were treated as if it was a privilege to pay her for her services. We were spoken to very disrespectfully both in person and via email. The emails we received were endless. I deleted over 500 emails that were sent over the course of 7 months. Most were sent with verbiage that barked orders and dictated what we “needed to do”. We were never asked about things, we were told. The director seemed to forget that we were her customers and that we paid her to provide a service…not the other way around. The stress level became so great that we finally pulled our daughter out of the studio. It was so unbearable toward the end that we actually left knowing we would lose over $1000 in earned money (fundraising) and money already paid for a competition (a stipulation in the contract that we forfeit money). Our new studio is absolutely amazing. Everyone is treated fairly and everyone gets the same opportunities. How awesome it is to transfer so late in the year and still be accepted as if she has always been there. My daughter has teachers that believe in her now and despite coming in at the end of the year last year, she has been included in a routine choreographed by professional choreographer from SYTYCD for this upcoming season. There is ZERO drama at our new studio and the owner and associate directors are dedicated to developing dancers. There simply is no comparison. I would strongly suggest finding a different studio if you are seeking a healthy dance environment because you will not find it at Starz Dance Galaxy. Note-You can find reviews for the old studio online by typing in “Starz Studios Inc.”.

I completely disagree. This is an amazing studio and offers very great classes. Jeremy is now the owner and he is doing a great job.

I would have to disagree with the top review. My daughters went there last season and they had an absolutely amazing time! Their teachers were the best! Koodos to Mr. Jeremy and Miss Nicole, some of the best... My daughters are already registered to go back this season and I wouldn't change their studio for the world. Everyone is so friendly, the teachers are great with the students and the fact that my girls aren't on any competion team but still recieve the same treament means that I'm not going anywhere. My girls are going to continue dance at Starz and I can't wait to sit back and watch the beautiful dancers that they will become through the years at a wonderful studio.:)

New Owner at Starz

Hi, I am one of the new owners at Starz Dance Galaxy. I just wanted to respond to the original post here by saying I agree with much of what was posted. My daughter attended Starz for 4 years before my family partnered with the new Artistic Director to purchase the studio. During my daughters time at Starz she always received excellent training, but I know that was not the case for all of the children. I think you can see that opinions started to improve during the summer of 2013 as the transition began. We officially took over in September 2013.
If you take the time to either come in an meet our new ownership group or better yet if you can talk to a parent who currently attends Starz I think you will find the atmosphere has totally changed. There has always been good technical training happening here, but now it is backed by new ownership that includes someone with perspective as the parent of a 6 year old daughter who has been dancing since age 2 at Starz. We want to make this the absolute best place for children with an interest in dance to grow. With decades of experience in the professional dance world and in business I think you will find we are building a great dance family. Our number one priority is the children and giving them all an EQUAL opportunity to grow.
We have had a number of dancers who had left Starz for many of the issues spoken of in the original review in this tread who have now returned to us to train. It is because they knew us before we bought the studio and have heard of all the great changes since we have taken over. Check out our website for owner bios and more on what we are all about at www.starzdancegalaxy.com .
