I hate when bad gun people ruin it for the law abiding gun people.

Very sad that the Son had to die at the hands of his Mother.

Amazing how all senseless crimes are because someone is mentally unstable.

Keep proving my point..Name calling over the internet is easy for an unarmed peasant like yourself.
I'm actually from Florida(in Iraq now, don't know wat this "Clarksville TN deal is)...I carry a gun for a living.I also have a CCW & could be standing next to you in public...& you would never know I was carrying.
I have proven that I am morally, ethically,& skillful enough to carry a firearm...If you choose(or can't) to not carry, that's your problem.

Brainless - Sure, I'll do that... On one condition: You type out your own front door message, reading thusly:
DEAR EVERYONE: ATTENTION! PROUD GUN OWNER INSIDE. PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT I AM FAR MORE LIKELY TO TAKE THE LIFE OF A RELATIVE, MYSELF, NEIGHBOR, MEMBER OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, TRICK-OR-TREATER, OR OTHER INNOCENT PERSON (ACCIDENTALLY OR OTHERWISE) THAN I AM TO ACTUALLY DEFEND MYSELF AGAINST ANY ROBBER, RAPIST, BURGLAR, ETC.
Here's a better solution - Get an alarm system (with panic buttons throughout the home), train your family in emergency planning, and keep an eye on who you let enter your home. Nothing is fail - safe -**** will always exist... But, statistically, you, your family, and everyone in your community is safer without a gun. Leave the gun play to the cops. Besides, as my sense of it is, a guy like you would probably end up blasting the paperboy by mistake.
Uh Duh, I know I'm just a stupid Democrat here, but the point of the previous story was that a person with mental issues had a gun. That was the point of their story. So, you extreme, insecure, paranoid 'righty' get a flippin grip.

This is why mentally ill persons should be required to go to a clinic every day & be administered their meds and if they do not comply, it's straight to the mental hospital for them. Seriously, I'd rather pay for their committal to a mental ward than have them running around committing crazy crimes like this. I'll pray for the poor young man, cut down in his youth. Very sad!

And I am a victim of a recently released mental patient who attacked me in the parking lot of a grocery store in Tampa. Just released!

even those who are already living normal lives on their meds, without any intervention other than a follow up visit with their psychiatrist every 3-4 months? considering one out of every five people will suffer mental illness of some type at some point in their lives - that would require quite an undertaking! who will pay?

Is your statement a rethorical one, or are you REALLY willing to pay for their committal to a mental ward?

Our nations jails are full of people who really belong in a mental ward, but that is VERY expensive. Like many other social services is severely underfunded and is always in the chopping block when cuts are needed.

It seems like your feelings are either not shared by many, or not heard by your representatives. message is

Let's see...perhaps when it's a person who youÂ’ve banned from your shooting range for trying to kill herself in your facility you would simply look at the picture you posted to make sure she didn't return and hurt herself or anyone else. That would have been one way they could have recognized a mentally ill person.
so she attempted to kill herself at this shoot straight a previous time, how do ya know that?

Surely there is a happy medium there somewhere...not committing everyone that gets depressed.

From what I've heard there aren't many 'mental hospitals' left, since funding has dried up. Crazy people either end up in jail, on the streets, maybe in hospitals for short periods of time.

So does that mean you are volunteering to have your entire medical record accessible by whomever to check and see if you are taking anti-depressants, so you can't rent a gun, or if you have high cholesterol so you can't buy ice cream. How far are you willing to go to ensure that we don't let sick people do what they want. Should we tatoo codes on their arms that makes them different. I think somebody tried that before.

committing adults against their will is very difficult. in florida the baker act only allows a person to be held in a hopsitla for treatment for now more than 3 days. there are no mental hospitals anymore because of concern over how many people's riughts were violated and were p[laced there inappropriately. such as the mentally disabled (mentally retarded) they do not belong in mental hospitals, but many were being placed there, along with some severely physically disabled people.

also, if they take their meds, there should be no reason to hsopitalize most mentlaly ill/. especially those with depression, anxiety or bipolar disorder. for every mental illness there are degrees of severity. the earlier the treatment, the bettr it gets under control. schizophrenia and schizo affective disorder are the two that have the worst prognosis. then there are the personality disorders. its a very fine line between personal liberty and the threat to others. usually someone has to assault someone or something similar in some fashion or another before the law can get involved.

True, and then where ever the line was drawn, eventually someone on the 'sane enough' side of it would snap and next thing you know we would have crazy people registries like they do with sex offenders.
