My condolences to the dachshund owner. As one who has formerly owned both breeds, I know how wonderful dachshunds are as pets and how frightening pitbulls can sometimes be--even to their owners. I don't understand why anyone would ever have a pitbull in an uncontrolled environment; they just plain scare me. Ours was raised from 6 weeks in a loving, caring environment with excellent upbringing and yet one morning when he had cornered a small yard animal into a dense brush area, I grabbed him by his haunches to pull him back and the look he gave me was "let go or it's on..." I moved away from that household a short time later but have always wondered what happened with that dog since it went to live in a home with a child who is now two. BAD IDEA.

The problem is too many Michael Vick wannabees adopting these dogs. TIME TO SCREEN EVERYONE INTERESTED IN OWNING A PITT. Take action against these neglectful owners. Do not punish these dogs. A gun is not dangerous until it gets into the hands of the wrong person.

Time to start walking your animals with a gun...this way when a pit bull attacks, you have protection...I feel bad for the dachshund...it didn't stand a chance...

It should be mandatory when you buy a dog to have it microchipped and have the id linked to the owner, and the person responsible for the dog.

another pit bull attack, its time we eliminate this species. and please I dont want to hear its how you raise the dog. I have seen pitt bulls raised from puppys to be very loving pets and then Wammy, they have attacked, so animal rights activist and peta memebers,I dont want to hear it.I also think the owners shoud recieve mimunum 5 yrs in a pitbull attack

It's a shame that they don't report attacks by other dog breeds, we all know it happens, people are ignorant, any animal can snap and go on the attack..no animal is fully tame..but i suppose it's better to blame one species than the people. it use to be rottweilers, chows, german sheperds..i'm more scared of the litte dogs than i am big dogs! have a great day and happy easter.

Mandatory jail time for the owner if the dog, no matter what the breed, attacks a person and breaks the skin. Lengthier jail time for more severe attacks.

As a dog owner it is YOUR responsibility to control your dog and make sure it is not able to do these things. Think about it, if you own a gun and your child gets a hold of that gun and kills someone with it. The fault is that of the parent who did not make it so the child could not access the gun. I had a dachshund and it killed my pet hamster. To a Pit, a small dog is a hamster. Should I have killed my dog or should I have made sure that he could not get to my hamster?

the answer is in your previous post. the owner is responsible for their animals. your dog killed your hamster=your fault for not controlling the dog
