I didn't ask "who would come to Dunkirk to get free money and leach off taxpayers?" I asked who could be successful with a high tech company in Dunkirk. Because I've never seen that happen. But I've seen quite a few out of town opportunists who couldn't get incubated in their home towns. You see, we are desperate here in Dunkirk so we get lots of public funds to throw into the wind so people like you can catch it and then go out of business.

I think the location of the incubator is cursed. The last successful business that was there was PJ's & that eventually went out of business due to a fire. The incubator is a waste of money. Even if a high tech business is successful, I'm pretty confident that the majority of skilled employees will be people transferring here from other places. It will look good on paper, but won't help the currently unemployed residents of Chautauqua County.

Rootwyrm: thank you for serving our country. The problem is the incubator has never been successful. You are new to the incubator and lack history. The incubator/college promised businesses and jobs of which it has succeeded with neither.

Why don't they turn that place into a mall with lots of small retail businesses? Make it a destination. People love to shop - give them what they want.

so the website has not been updated in a long long time, most of the companies on there have little to no information posted about activity, or the website links are to junk.....it may not be a scam, but it certainly has the feel of one, there should be more accountability for public sector dollars being spent on things like this....the University is not a big dollar research school like UB or those in the Boston area, so a tech incubator...does it make sense here? SUNY Fred. is a liberal arts school...support that, not tech companies that have nothing to do with the arts...dog and pony show is what it looks like from here

I won't get a raise this year, but they have enough money to keep pumping it into the incubator. Plus they are adding another person down there. To do more of nothing? Maybe Ginny will stop the nonsense?

If you try to get any information on the "companies" in that incubator, good luck. And it IS funded by PUBLIC TAX DOLLARS!!!! A total crock.

I think the new guy down at the incubator is Chuck Cornell. I thought Chuck was in politics? Didn't he run for county exec? I don't recall seeing the 'help wanted sign' posted at the incubator for his position. But the good news is they created one job at the incubator, Chuck's. So what is his job, to keep the Director company?

You know what I don't get...they actually charge rent to companies. Now, hear me out...most quality and attractive incubators offer free rent in exchange for a small equity stake. After all, how many start-ups can pay the monthly rent of $500 or so (what I hear is the starting office space rates)? Spending that kind of money on rent-when technology companies can just start out of their homes and bypass the incubator all together.
I know this community is against the incubator and would be against the idea of free rent, but it seems like if you're going to attract entrepreneurs with big ideas and drive, they need to focus their limited budgets on the products and services, not on rent overhead. Otherwise, they can just go the other, cheaper-to-free ways.

I am so tired of my tax dollars being wasted. I just looked at their website. On the "what is incubation" page there is art work that still has the watermark on the picture from the company that they copied it from. I think that means that they haven't paid for the right to use that picture on the incubator website. So are they paying the bills?
