The Fed only allocates funds to each state and sets guidelines for administration. The states determine the requirements to qualify for benefits and how much you may receive.

The cutting of fs benefits for MO residents is a direct result of our own state politicians. They voted to "not" accept extended funds from the Fed, and will inevitably use the cut as another club with which to bash the Obama administration.

This is the usual Republican tactic. Enact legislation that harms the middle class and the poor, then attack the President when their constituents complain.

Yeah, you're right. It has to do with the Federal Recovery Act and the Food Stamp increase not being renewed. I think this one is on the Democrats.

(RNN/CNN)- Millions of Americans who rely on food stamps will soon see a change in benefits.

Starting Friday, on Nov. 1, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - also known as food stamps - will be cut.

More than 47 million people currently receive food stamps, which is about 15 percent of the U.S. population, up from 8.7 percent in 2007.

The average benefit per person now stands at a little more than $133 a month; that amount will be reduced.

According to the USDA, households of one to four people received a maximum SNAP allotment of $200,$367,$526 and $668, respectively. Starting Nov. 1, those families would get a decrease of $11,$20,$29 and $66.

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities has a breakdown of the estimated impact the SNAP reduction will have on individual states.

All total, the cuts add up to $5 billion.

Congress can halt the decision but, it's unlikely they will do so.

Yes by all means; let's cut those budget busting Food Stamps that cost a person making $50K an enormous $36 and change per year. Don't cut defense though... the Lord (and the GOP) knows we need to triple down and spend more.

You know the only ones it will effect will be the elderly or the honest ones who don't sell them !
The Food Stamp program is not meant to feed your whole family it is to supplement your food supply or until you get on your feet . Not for your entire life or your children's lives!

You notice everyone always talks about Medicare and Social Security running out of money... but no one ever worries that welfare or farm-aid or food stamps will run out of money. It's not even a topic of discussion... because no matter what happens to the elderly who have worked their whole lives to support the dregs of society.. the government will always find enough money to buy votes.

Well, we don't have enough money for all federal programs and all the government waste we see every
day. We should let those getting food stamps decide weather to give up 20-25 dollars a month or one of their obamaphones. We need to be fair.

I know that some people certainly need them.
The others(?) I can take you to a certain part
of town at about 10am and there will be certain
people (about 30) sitting on a porch drinking.
We all know who they are. They wouldn't take
a job making $15 an hour. Why would they? They have free Medical care, food stamps (which they can sell) free (or subsidized) housing. It cost me
and my wife about $800 a month for health insurance. So the rest of you, SHUT THE FRUCK
UP!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I'm going to quit before I start breaking things.

Kids eat at school 2 meals a day. If a woman is getting 400 a month for a family of 4 and the 4 are eating at school that leaves 100 a week to feed the kids one meal at home. I haven't seen any of these people look like they are starving to me. Next time you go to the grocery store look at them, they are all over weight. Ive seem them so over weight they have to lay on their grocery baskets to get down the isle. Its not like hundreds are being cut from each family.

The cuts in food stamps are needed. They draw more than I spend a month on groceries. The kids are fed at school, summer feeding, WIC, etc. That is on top of what they are drawing in food stamps. When I stand in line at the grocery store and have to watch tattooed, nose ring, eye ring, hair extension, free cell phones, nails professionaalydone and then pull out an ebt card, I get sick at my stomach. I have started shopping for groceries early in the morning because these people don't get up until noon and I don't have to watch it. I would never want a child to go hungery but I think there should be a drastic change in the way food stamps are spent and what they are spent for.

anytime something is offered for "free", it will draw the dregs of society - many need the support of food stamps, welfare, etc - sad thing is little attempt is made to distinguish the dregs from the true needy - only thing government has done with food stamps is "they are selling the commodities, so let's quit giving them the food - instead we will give them food stamps" - that really worked well - then all of the dregs were embarrased to have to use the stamps so the government, in its infinite wisdom decided to "let's give them a card, so it will look like they are actually paying for the food, plus a card will be harder to sell than the food stamps" - right again, government -true story, about welfare, that happened in c'ville years ago - lady who worked for the welfare department would go out and check applicants for welfare - but like true government, they would notify them when they were coming - she went to a house that had applied for welfare/food stamps to check on the validy of the application - they had "several" kids, but what stuck out was that the youngest 3 were 1 year, 9 months and 6 months - and the woman was pregnant - claimed all to be her natural born children!! would be my guess that the youngest is now a great, great mother, still on welfare, along with the rest of her klan - i wish i had a foolproof solution - closest i can come is offer an idea from timothy leary, yeah that ole acid head - his idea of allowing people to drop out was and is a good one - if you are a druggie or a dreg, don't want to work or adjust to society, move to the "farm"(communities established in the desert) and let the government provide you with food, clothing, shelter and, yes, drugs - no additional cost to the government as the reduction in prison costs, as well as a huge reduction in crime, will more than cover the costs - we're doing that anyway, but they are mixed in with productive people and are the cause of most of the crime - not talking about labor camps of ww2, just a way to better control the dregs of our world -

I have a friend that works and makes less than 1000 a month and works 40 hrs. She is not eligible for anything. NO card, no energy assistance, nothing. Why is it that the working poor can get NOTHING but those that do nothing get it all. She had a daughter at home and all her ex paid was 40 a month. Time she paid in SS it put her less that 1040 a month. Wonder what Obama care is going to cost her?
