Yes, It's recently been discovered that Paul Ryan,(Mitt Romney's Vice Pres. elect) has had a long time love affair for an OLDER WOMAN! Of course, that woman died in 1982 - but still the influence she had over Paul Ryan lingers on in his heart even today.

That woman was AYN RAND, a Russian author who's had more influence on Ryan's thinking & his political views than anyone else in his life. Paul Ryan was so enamoured of Rand's work - that even gave out copies of her books to everyone he knew he knew in congress in & in DC.

Ayn Rand was an atheist & an adultress who had some pretty far-out beliefs. She believed & taught that the extremely wealthy people were a special breed & everyone should not only look up to them - but almost worship at their feet! She believed extremely people were called out to more or less have dominion over everyone else.

Ayn Rand also believed & taught that anyone who was not extremely wealthy - were just looters and nothing more than parasites and hangers on to the extremely wealthy.

Now does this give you some insight into Paul Ryan's thinking? I understand (since being selected as GOP VP elect) that Ryan has toned down some of his more radical views - which he learned from AYN Rand. But, deep down, he harbors these racial beliefs.

You know, this answers a lot of questions of why Ryan and other members of the Republican party have become so very radical in their views of giving big tax breaks to the rich - and yet have so little regard for the middle class, working poor, poor, the sick & elderly.

I would be willing to bet that Rush Limbaugh is also an ardent fan of AYN RAND'S racical attitude toward the rich & poor.

Can you just imagine what would happen to our country & society, it Republicans with these radical beliefs manage to gain control of both the senate, the house & also win the presidency???

I know you got your "facts" here straight off the GOP propaganda machine press. THE REASON I KNOW - IS LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE YOU GET OFF THAT PROPAGANDA MACHINE - THIS IS A BIG LIE TOO!!!

You know what the sad part about this is? The sad part is that you don't have enough sense to see that my post about Paul Ryan and his beloved author AYN RAND is not about an actual physical love affair at all.

What my post is about is that Paul Ryan has been strongly influenced by a Russian atheist, adultress author who has some very wierd beliefs. Because of Paul Ryan's long standing love for her work - he now has the same wierd beliefs that AYN RAND has. This is very scary - and very telling why Republicans are becoming so radical and have so little concern for anyone who is not extremely wealthy.

Did you even take the time to read my post all the way through? If you had you would have seen, I was not literaly talking about physical love affair.

Of course, I guess I couldn't expect anything more from someone with such a low mental capacity.

Alumni,

I thought the ad that tried to claim Governor Romney had murdered a woman was low but you have certainly dropped way down in the gutter, the muck and mire with this one.

That was a hit piece I would expect to find on Huff Po or Media Matters or MSNBC. I would have thought have you would have had the honor and integrity to dismiss this but I was, and may I say sadly so, I was wrong.

Before you accept the liberal dogma, why don't you go the public library, check out Atlas Shrugged, try to read it with an open mind, I know that one is impossible, and learn what Ann Rand really said for yourself.

Oh wait that would require some work when it is much easier to accept the trash of the left as being true because it matches your own beliefs.

I have to say that I am very, very, very disappointed in you. I really thought you were more honorable this and I am saddened to know I was wrong

No, I wouldn't waste my time reading tripe like "Atlas Shrugged"! But, I have done some research in the form of reading cliff notes & a number of book reviews.

In my opinion, this book could be dangerous for a person who is easily influenced & has little life experiences. A young person who has enjoyed a priviliged life & never wanted for anything could easily develop a deep seated divide & resentment between the haves & have nots (after reading this book).

It appears this is exactly what has happened to Paul Ryan - because Atlas Shrugged has been a favorite of his most of his life.

And since Romney has himself always enjoyed a privileged life & seems to have no convictions of his own - he seems to have latched onto Ryan's mind-set & policies. And as we all know, some of Ryan's policies would be very damaging to this country.

What Ayn Rand didn't seem to take into consideration is that yes, we will always have the dreamers, the inventors, the movers & shakers & the "masters of the universe" types. These are the people who dream the dreams & make the wheels of our society turn.

But, what Ayn Rand didn't seem to consider was that it also takes the little people, the common working people to do the grunt work to make those dreams & inventions come to reality & make those wheels of society turn.

But, it is only right that those "masters of the universe" have the responsibility to see that the little common working folk can earn a livable wage while making the "masters" dreams reality & the wheels turn.

The message of Atlas Shrugged goes against everything this country was founded upon. It is also goes against what we have been taught in the word of God - the Bible!

I know the disdain Republicans have for poor people - well, did you know Jesus told us that we would always have the poor among us. Jesus also made it perfectly clear that we are to help the poor, the sick & those less fortunate than we are.

You know, we've had very wealthy presidents before - like FDR & John Kennedy. But, the difference in FDR & John Kennedy - is they both had empathy - something Romney seems to be lacking.

For those to whom much is given - much is expected...

Alumni,

You are at it again and the lack of facts from a credible source makes what you have said invalid.

you said: "No, I wouldn't waste my time reading tripe like "Atlas Shrugged"! But, I have done some research in the form of reading cliff notes & a number of book reviews.

How can you know what the book says or doesn't say from Cliff Notes and book reviews. Let's not forget that Cliff Notes is and extremely condensed version of the book and it does not give you the flavor of the book or the tone of the book because it is not the book. You can only get that by reading the book. As for book reviewers, the are almost universally left wing progressives who knock anything that does not fit their view of how the world should be. They are incapable of giving an honest review of any book that they consider to be right wing.

You talk of Republican disdain for the poor. An interesting point if you had some facts to back it up but you don't.

You started this thread with slander when you talked of Representative Ryan having a "love affair" with Ayn Rand and claimed she was his "Secret Lover". If you want to talk about lie, there it is.

How about you stop ranting and instead you give us solid facts from a non biased, non partisan source and give us that source.

I know you can't do it so you continue to make your rants, you rant and rave, and insult everyone on the right, calling them, among other things, stupid and idiots. You don't see me calling you stupid and an idiot, you don't see me calling on the left that.

If you look at their charitable giving alone, Mitt Romney has given much more than Kennedy and FDR did combined. Let’s not even think about Obama or Biden…

So much for your “Romney doesn’t have much empathy” crap.

your description of any rand could easily fit several in the obama circle, ncluding obama - he is not russian or female, but the rest is in question - the more you post, the wackier you seem to become - so sad - thought your upbringing was better than that - no, it was better than that - somewhere you took a left turn instead of right - i have only one question for you - you may have stated it before, but i missed it - what IS your position on abortion? just curious -

Those of us who are Progressives and Progressive Conservatives must engage against the dark and evil forces of the Randian Right. The Tea Party, the Extreme Conservatives, Walker and Ryan, and now Romney. Regardless of their looks, their personalities, their personal fortunes, and their fine educations, the adherence of politicians such as Paul Ryan and the others to Objectivism makes them a HUGE danger to this Nation. America needs a new social contract and it must not be a Randian social contract. Instead, I believe that we need to work together to co-create a sustainable future for all, one characterized by the ability of all to flourish. Such a society needs the Public. The Public is the infrastructure and support upon which the Private stands and is able to succeed.

On the other hand, the Randians believe that “Government is inherently negative”(261). The tenets of Ayn Rand’s worldview have been circulated for decades,“its tenets reiterated endlessly by Rand and her disciples:"

— No government except the police, courts of law, and the armed services

— No regulation of anything by any government

— No Medicare or Medicaid.

— No Social Security.

— No Public Schools.

— No public hospitals.

— No public anything, in fact. Just individuals, each looking out for himself, not asking for help or giving help to anyone.”(261-2).

America’s democratic republic is being threatened by these Randians, by the Tea Party, by conservatives, and especially by our near-fascistic leaders like Ryan and Walker, whose divisive, unilateral decisions, and policies, have hurt, and unsettled, so many of us.

American needs to revitalize its Christian-founding ethics. We need a movement that is based upon Augustinian (or, Pauline) and Aristotelian purposes: Truth, Beauty, Unity, Goodness, Empathy, and Love – those moral & ethical foundations have guided us successfully, for the most part, during our nearly 250 years as a sovereign Nation. In stark contrast looms the America of the Tea Party, Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney, and their ilk.“An Objectivist America would be a dark age…. In an Objectivist world, the reset button would be pushed on government services that we take for granted. They would not be cut back, not reduced – they would vanish”(262).

Tell the extreme right that America does not value Ayn Rand, her Objectivist philosophy.

Do you think I give a rat's a-s about the flavor & tone of this book!!!

I didn't know book reviewers were mostly left wing progressives - but I'm not surprised. I takes a little intelligence to do a book review - and from what I've seen on Topix & the GOP on tv over the last year - I don't know of any Republican would not be able to handle the job!

Look, if you can't see the title of this thread was for SHOCK VALUE ONLY (just like the tabloids have been doing for years) then you are dumber than I gave you credit for!

I knew most Topix readers wouldn't be able to resist the chance to hear about a "secret affair" so - I used that title to get their attention - so that I could warn them about the dangers of AYN RAND'S book - & the fact that Ryan was one of her diciples & that he MAY BE OUR NEXT VICE PRESIDENT - and could really do some serious harm to our country with his radical views.

nothing wrong with social secrity or unemployment - it's the freebies that need serious review - welfare is a farce - too bad we have now raised gereration after generation on the system - people pay in to social security and unemployment and, in turn, receive compensation when eligible - welfare has turned into the system that supports those who do not have any desire to work - they think everyone owes them something - sorta like the lady that lived down the street from us with 11 or 14 kids - never worked a day in her life - don't confuse the issue - oh, you never stated your position on abortion - are you pro life or pro choice? you know mine - the decision is made when you decide to have sex, not after conception - oops, almost 7:00 - gotta go to the swing

Red,
Yes, you're right - there are many people who are gaming the system & collect welfare (when they are perfectly able to work). But, there are also others who desperately need assistance (due to circumstances beyond their control) like illness or mental incompentence) Others also need a hands up to get back into the workforce - because of poor life choices they've made.

And yes, people who are perfectly able to work should be made to get a job. But, did you ever wonder where all these people would work? With this current environment - even dilligent hard working people are looking for jobs.

Because of policies of the Republican party over the last 12 years - our middle class is shrinking at an alarming rate. The system is now geared in favor of the rich & powerful & against the middle class & working poor.

Did you know that even during this (economic climate) there have been more private sector jobs created under Obama - than were ever created in 8 yrs of Bush's presidency?

Yes, the only salvation this country has is for Obama to be re-elected! We must also stop this idiotic grid-lock in congress and get our country moving again. Congress must pass Obams's job bill and start trying to cooperate instead OBSTRUCTING!!!

Red,
HOW DARE YOU SAY I'VE VEERED OFF COURSE FROM MY RAISING!!!

I can still remember my dear daddy (at the supper table) telling us that the Democrat party was for the poor & working people & that Repbublicans were for the rich. Seems like some things never change (even afer 60 yrs)!

I can also remember a lesson my dear moma taught me many years ago. My moma was a (widowed single-parent) working at Brown Shoe while raising me & my little brother. Yes, my daddy died when I was just a child.

My moma had learned of a down-on-their luck family living just a couple of blocks over from us - who had a bunch of children. This man & woman were keeping those kids home from school covered up in bed trying to keep them from freezing to death during a very cold snap in the weather. This family had no electricity, no heat, no food & no warm winter clothes for the kids. THIS WAS YEARS BEFORE FOOD STAMPS, WELFARE OR PUBLIC HOUSING!

The man & woman neither had a job - I believe this family scratched out their living in a cotton patch.

This just broke my mother's heart & she got busy giving & raising money, collecting food & clothing & having the family's electricity turned back on & having a load of coal hauled to their house - as well as lots of food & clothing. Moma spear-headed the whole community, church & work to help this poor family.

Moma even went to mine & my brother's closet & pulled out some of our clothes to give this poor family.

Moma was able to get the father a job at Brown Shoe shoveling coal into the old coal furnace in the old Brown Shoe building.

This is one of the most precious memories I have of my dear mother. SHE TAUGHT ME THAT YES, WE ARE ARE BROTHER & SISTER'S KEEPER!

She taught me that - it is much more blessed to give that to recieve - and that helping the poor is what Jesus taught us to do over & over.

She even made me think of the story of the "widow's mite" in the bible - because we were just poor people ourselves. The only difference was that my moma had a good job at the Shoe factory....

Oh, if you want to read about my view of abortion go to the thread "Republican War on Women" (Posts # 34,38,39,42,43,59,62,65,66.
