i see the time off didn't do anything for your fractured brain -Obamacare is coming along fine - with a few bumps & glitches along the way!
DON'T ANY OF YOU DITTO-HEADS REMEMBER WHAT A NIGHTMARE MEDICARE PART D WAS WHEN IT FIRST STARTED???
Heck, the first few years hardly anybody signed up for it! Many seniors even refused to sign up for it for years! I only signed up for it last year myself. And, now SENIOR CITIZENS LOVE PART D MEDICARE!!!
The same thing happpened when Social Security first started!
Now, Social Security was a REAL NIGHTMARE when it first started! The problem back then (in the 30's) was the mass confusion caused by so many people with the same name - and that is how SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS CAME ABOUT!
And we all know - SOCIAL SECURITY HAS PROVEN TO BE THE MOST SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM IN THIS COUNTRY'S HISTORY!
The same thing happened when they rolled out Medicare in 1964 - and now if they tried to take Medicare away from Americans - there would be WAR IN THE STREETS!!!
All this Republican outrage about Obamacare is PURE POLITICS - AND NOTHING ELSE!!!
I would venture to say - with the outcry from the American people (if Republicans had been in office) they would have been forced to pass the VERY SAME HEALTHCARE PLAN!
Heck, a while - back Republicans started talking about their own health care reform plan - and you know what??? It sounded IDENTICAL TO OBAMACARE...
As a matter of fact - someone on this forum even put a thread on here - titled: REPUBLICANS WANT TO REPLACE OBAMACARE - WITH OBAMACARE...(go figure)
Mark my word - in about 4 or 5 years from now EVERY ONE IN THIS COUNTRY WILL SWEAR BY OBAMACARE - AND SAY IT'S THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD...
So, just give it a rest Ditto-heads - because you're just digging your grave a little deeper with all this Obamacare bashing...
If you'll check the history books - you see that Republicans were throwing a fit when they passed Social Security, Medicare & Part D Medicare - just like their doing with Obamacare.
And, of course, REPUBLICANS WILL BE PROVEN WRONG AGAIN!
Yes, all this Obamacare bashing by Republcians is just making JACK ASSES OUT OF THE GOP!!!

My father said once the dole system starts there is no getting off of it. The US is a great example of this.
#24 Nov 30, 2013
Then your father is an IDIOT!!!
And, I'd be willing to bet YOUR FATHER will be the first to show up at the Social Security office (or online) to sign up for his Social Benefits (that is, if he's ever worked anywhere & paid into the system)- or if he isn't already drawing benefits from Social Security...
And, I'd further be willing to bet that if SOCIAL SECURITY WAS DISCONTINUED - your FATHER would be in a world of hurt financially.
Your father needs to keep his Big mouth shut & quit trying to brain-wash you with right-wing GARBAGE!!!

She should have never started propagandizing her kids and grandkids about Obamacare during Thanksgiving dinner. She should have been smart and realized the grandkids wouldn't appreciate adding on to the 80 trillion dollars of unfunded liability her generation has already saddled them with. Bet she saw more than one pair of eyes roll...
Then you have her poor kids... So close to being recipients of all those government programs Mama enjoys, but just out of reach. Common sense tells them, it won't be the same Social Security Mom has enjoyed. Well, there is no tooth fairy or Santa Clause. Mom lied about that too.
She better get out there and find some really good gifts to give those kids for Christmas and forego any talk of politics around the Christmas tree. Maybe take those young minds off the future. They have several lifetimes to pay all her generations bills (all, racked up for the good of the country, of course!).

Actually, I had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I traveled to Washington, Mo with my son & daughter-in-law & spent Thanksgiving with my grandaughter, her husband & their 3 babies. I didn't have to fix a big meal this year - just had to bring my sweet-potato casserole with marshmallows & my homemade pecan pie. We had a wonderful meal of turkey & dressing, ham and all the trimmings!
The good part about getting old - is you can just kick back & enjoy your family & not have to do all (or most of the work)!
The highlight of my Thanksgiving - was when it was time to say the blessing before the meal and - my little (2 & a half year old) great-grandson wanted to say the prayer. Well, he said his little prayer & then my little (one and a half year old) great-grandaughter wanted to say her little prayer. Although, we couldn't understand all of what she said - she ended her prayer with "amen". Then, their father offered the final blessing. My son ususally offers the blesing when we have a family meal.
My heart just soared - knowing these babies are being raised knowing & loving & giving thanks to the Lord. They're probably not old enough yet to know the significance of prayer - but they are learning. I don't think they've missed going to church since they were first born.
Actually, I haven't given much thought to politics lately.
But, I was outraged to have someone get on this forum & say the SOCIAL SECURITY is just another government dole (that will never end)!!!
I guess Guest, who posted this doesn't realize that for 37 years - with every paycheck I earned (while working) I was paying into the SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM. Maybe Guest, also didn't realize that every paycheck my husband earned (for 43-45 years) he also paid into SOCIAL SECURITY!!!
I DON'T CALL IT - LIVING OFF THE GOVERMENT DOLE - when I'm now old enough to recoup that money we paid in all those years...
If Guest must call SOCIAL SECURITY - the dole, then Guest needs to start calling it it's proper name - SOCIAL SECURITY IS AN EARNED ENTITLEMENT...
IT'S NOT LIKE WELFARE...(because, we seniors paid for it all our working lives)...
And, I'm shocked & outraged that Guest's father (of all people) would say "once a government dole starts - it never ends".
This is the most ignorant statment I ever heard anyone ever make - considering the man is probably drawing social security or getting close to being old enough to draw it...

Why don't you get your facts straight before coming on this forum & making a fool of yourself!
FDR intended for SOCIAL SECURITY TO BE A PERMANENT PROGRAM TO PROVIDE AN INCOME FOR PEOPLE WHEN THEY BECAME TOO OLD TO WORK!!
Any fool can see that in order for Social Security to be able to pay 100% of promised benefits after 25-30 years - it will have to be tweeked a bit.(that means raising the social security payroll tax just a little)- just as they've had to do serveral times in the last 70 years. Heck, Ronald Reagan even raised the SS payroll tax!
No doubt you'r talking about the $255.(SS death benefit)(which was supposed to be temporary). This $255. was originally for the benefit of workers who paid into SS & died before they ever was able to draw any benefits. This $255. death benefits is only paid to the surviving spouse of a worker who has paid into the SS program.
But, now - not only is the $255, death benefit still paid to the surviving spouse - but the spouse can also draw benefits from their dead spouse's SS earnings for the rest of her/his life.
Also, if the worker dies & leaves (under age) surviving children they can also draw benefits from their deceased parent's SS earnings.
This is why I just get sick to my stomach when I hear these young know it all punks (like you) claim they could invest their SS money themselve & have much more money to retire on.
They don't seem to realize that SS also is like an insurance policy to help support a surving spouse & children.
I know this for a fact because my dad died when my little brother was just 4 years old & I was 13. We both drawed benefits from my dad's SS until we turned 18...
Do any of you hot shot young punks think you could invest your SS money so that you could take care of your widow (for the rest of her life) and any surviving children till their grown???
Now, earlier you said you had a young son. Did you know that if you died tomorrow - your son could draw benefits from your SS until he's 18. You wife may also be able to draw benefits from your SS now too.

I'm betting he wasn't talking about Social Security being part of
the dole. I'm guessing Welfare, "crazy checks" food stamps, public
housing, obamaphones, on and on would be his father's idea of "the
dole" and he would be absolutely correct.
By the way for someone that talks about what fine person and good
Christian you are, you sure as hell don't express yourself like one. Are you familiar with the word hypocrite?
#35 Dec 3, 2013
Im a she and thank you. That is exactly what my father was talking about. Everything you mentioned is free and paid for by tax payers. Im sure there are some people that are so brained washed they think it is ok for these "poor" people. Some of them draw a check on all their kids, and then the kids all get a check because they have any thing from a learning disability, a behavior problem, that a butt whipping would take care of, to asthma. That doesn't count all the other free things you mention. Then when their daughters get babies, the daughter gets a check but the momma is still getting on the daughter if she is a minor. Oh and if one or more of the kids daddy is dead because he got shot in some drug deal, then they go get a SS check on those kids. IM sure Ms Know it All knows it all so why bother saying any thing. She talks about my father brainwashing... her daddy sucked her brain plum out of her head. Oh forgot he died when she was 4, maybe her mother did it.

I inadvertently hit the post button before I could compose my response. Then I realized it was getting late and I had to get up early in order to pay my social security taxes so none of the oldsters would have to go without.
What she refers to as "hot shot young punks" are people, just like me, who have accepted the reality that social security will probably not be around in its current form when I retire.
I don't think that I "could" invest and have more money than social security will provide. I know that I can because I'm doing it.
I get a quarterly statement from the social security administration that shows my "projected" benefit. That alone is motivation enough to save and invest. I can't imagine having to lower my standard of living that far.

woman..... he does have his FACTS straight. SS was good in its day, but since the government has chosen to spend all of our retirement and chooses to threaten us on a daily basis, WE have to look to alternative ways for OUR futures! Not YOURS or anyone 70 and above.
What was good when YOU retired is not something our generation will be able to live on.
IF me and my husband see retirement age, and have to live off of SS. The first thing to go will be our home, down size to a 1 or 2 bedroom home, sale 1 of our trucks, etc. The insurances and taxes on our home and vehicles would take 2 or 3 months of income from SS. My electric bill monthly now is 400. a month..etc. We can NOT live on SS.! You forget how the world changes when your not out in the work force everyday. If you don't have a TON of money saved YOUR not going to make it! And as you have seen thru the years things change...so before you call anyone a FOOL or an IDIOT..think about the words " The WORLD changes everyday" Were not stupid, idiots or fools we are planners of survival for our retirement age lol !!! Even your children are planning ahead and lots different than you did! And were NOT guaranteed SS! The government tells us everyday it's gone or will be in X amount of years, and continues to raise our taxes yearly !!

Doing great! Merry Christmas

Im' not talking about people who game the sysem & make welfare & medicaid a way of life (for generations). If you'll remember the conversation you butted in on - I was talking about SOCIAL SECURITY. And, then you piped in & said your dad said any new "government dole" will never end. SOCIAL SECURITY & MEDICARE IS NOT A GOVERNMENT "DOLE" or freebie hand-out!
#40 Dec 4, 2013
Are you bragging or complaining with this remark?
Maybe you would have been able to save for your future, but how many Americans can can afford to have the kind of money to invest & INSURE they (and their spouse) would have a retirment income for the rest of their live?
How many young men would be able to provide for their widow & young children???
I know neither my husband nor I could have saved enough to completely provide for our retirment!!! And, we worked a combined total of 80 years!!!
Had, we not had Social Security & Medicare - we would have had to remain in the workforce long past the time we were able to work anymore.
Just as soon as my husband retired - his health problems began - so, he wouldn't have been able to work very many years past his retirement.(and no, he didn't go out on a disability), he waited till he was 62 to start drawing his SS.
I guess if I wanted to - I could still work - but, because of Social Security, Medicare & retirment checks from both my husband's & my employers - I DON'T HAVE TO WORK ANYMORE!
BUT, THE BIGGEST QUESTION OF ALL IS - HOW MANY AMERICANS WOULD ACTUALLY SAVE & MAKE PROVISIONS FOR THEIR WIFE/WIDOW OR UNDER-AGE CHILDREN???
If they STOPPED withholding social security & medicare from workers paychecks tomorrow. HOW MANY PEOPLE WOULD ACTUALLY USE THAT EXTRA MONEY TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR & THEIR FAMILY'S FUTURE???
Truth be known - most likely only about 25-30 % of Americans would actually save their money. The rest of them would use that extra money to buy some new fangled high-tech gadget, use the extra money should be toward the purchase of a vehicle, motorcycle, boat other non-essential.
Then when many of these people got to old & sickly to work - they would would become a REAL BURDEN on the taxpayer...
The people who are now on Social Security & Medicare - paid into these systems all their working lives - and IT IS ONLY RIGHT THEY HAVE THE ASSURANCE OF AN INCOME & MEDICAL CARE THER REST OF THEIR LIVES.
Here again, Tiger - you are showing your true CONSERVATIVE COLORS. You only CARE ABOUT YOURSELF!!!
You could care less about all those people who could not afford to save for their future - OR THOSE WHO REFUSED TO CARE ABOUT THEIR FUTURE...
Do you think your child/children are saving enough to provide for their retirment years. How about your sisters & their families - or is all of your family just as SMART & WEALTHY AS YOU ARE???
#41 Dec 4, 2013
Most people draw thousands & thousands & thousands more than they actually paid into Social Security.
Buy the time you are ready to retire - YOU SHOULD HAVE THE GOOD SENSE TO HAVE YOUR HOME PAID OFF FREE & CLEAR!
Yes, it's true - you won't have quite as much money in your retirment - BUT THEN YOUR EXPENSES WON'T BE AS HIGH EITHER!!
If your family is grown & on their own - why do you need a huge house??? You also don't need a new or late model vehicle.
After we retired, my husband & I both had cars of our own & my husband also had a truck. But, they were not brand new & ALL OF THEM WERE PAID FOR. HECK, I've still got mine & my husband's car. I did sell his truck & our place down on the Gasconade River. And, I don't regret it in the least - that's just one more thing I don't have to keep up anymore.
Yes, there are just COMMON SENSE ADJUSTMENTS you must make when you retire - unless you want to keep working the rest of your life. But, as you get older - you don't have desire to keep spending mony like you did when you were younger...
The only thing you & this younger generation have to worry about is if REPUBLICANS EVER GAIN CONTROL OF THE WHITE HOUSE, THE SENATE & THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
If they do, the first thing Paul Ryan will do is voucherize MEDICARE, and the next thing he will do is put everybody's social security money into the stock market. And we all know what a gamble that could be!(just remember the stock market crash back in 1929)
Then he will take steps to repeal OBAMACARE.
And then, he'll cut way way way way back on all programs for the poorest & most vunerable in this country.
And, then he will take all those trillions of dollars saved - and hand it over to the millionaies & billionares in tax cuts...
And, America will no longer be a Democracy - it will be an OLIGARCY...
Yes, this country will be ruled by the rich & powerful - THE HELL WITH THE COMMON & WORKING-CLASS & POOR PEOPLE...
And, unfortunately, about 99% of the posters on this forum are included in this catagory.
Of course, Tiger High is obviously in with th 1% of the rich & powerful...
#42 Dec 4, 2013
You just have to use some COMMON SENSE WHEN YOU RETIRE. You should have the common sense to have your house paid off FREE & CLEAR!!!
When the kids are gone - you don't need a huge house. You also don't need a new car every year or so. Maybe, you will have to down size - but by the time you hit 70 or so, this can be a good thing. Because, I'll guarantee you - won't be keen on cleaning & maintaining a huge house!!! When you downsize, you utilites will also go down.
I have heard many retired people claim they didn't realize how much MONEY THEY DIDN'T NEED WHEN THEY RETIRED! Yes, retirment is just a different world & minset.
Why do young people think they are going to need the same amount of money coming in as they did when they were working??? YOU JUST DON'T NEED AS MUCH MONEY WHEN YOU RETIRE!!!
Why do you think it is that senior citizens can save as much if not more than they did when they were working - WHEN THEY HAVE FAR LESS MONEY COMING IN???
I'm saving as much if not more money now than when my husband & I were both working.
THE ONLY THING YOU & THE YOUNGER GENERATION HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT - IS IF REPUBLICANS EVER GAIN CONTROL OF THE WHITE HOUSE, THE SENATE & THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
They will take apart every safety net program to help the common people, the working class & the poor. If Republicans take over - our country will soon become an OLIGARCHY... Yes, this country will be ruled by the rich & powerful - it will no longer be a democracy.
With the money Republcians save by screwing the common, the working-class & poor - they will hand if over to the rich & powerful...
And, unfortunately, about 98% of the posters on this fourm fall into the common people, the working-class & the poor - which the Republicans will screw.
Only, TIGER HIGH, being the wealthy man that he is - will be included in the 98%...
