This forum is known for blasting and tearing down people, For once, lets make it something GOOD. If you ever attended Caruthersville High School under the leadership of Mr.(Coach) Joe Parkinson, please take the time to share a memory or something to honor this wonderful former coach and Principal of our high school!!!
I'll go first, I remember he always had so many words of wisdom. One quote I remember well, was, "You should ALWAYS plan ahead." Well, that it is one man that I know in my heart,( because of the good Chiristian man he was) planned ahead along time ago for this day, and is with Jesus today!'Til we meet again Mr. Parkinson, thanks for the influence you've had on my life!

Joe Parkinson was a good principal to work for. We teachers always knew what he expected from us and from the students.
He enforced the rules fairly and with humor. He was predictable. If you had a question or a request or if you sent a student to the office, anyone who had studied the student and teacher handbooks had a good idea of what his response would be. That is a very good quality for a principal.
Yes, he always reminded us to "plan ahead". It is still good advice.
I have worked for several principals over a 45 year career of teaching. He was the one that I worked for the longest and remember most fondly.

I grew up with Mr. Parkinson. He was a great friend and person. I grew up with stories of him from my dad when he was in high school and Mr. P was teaching and coaching, then I made it to high school myself and he was the principal. Yes he made not only a big influence in my life but my families. What a great and wonderful man.

White suit...awwh yes ...I remember him wearing whte suits every graduation as far back as I can remember not only white suit but white shoes too!!
Always a tall quiet man with so much wisdom, didnt say alot but what he said always had so much depth and meaning and stays with you. If you had to go to his office, you always learned something and took it with you to teach your own kids someday.
Thanks Mr. P. Rest in Peace.. By the way, I always wondered where the nickname, "Spider Joe" came from. Anyone know?

He taught me how to drive when he taught Driver's Ed and how to exercise with his PE Classes. They were the same exercises we did in the Army and I was in great shape and had no problems with the physical side of it. A great man and teacher! Some of the teachers Caruthersville had you wnat to forget but not Coach Parkinson.

Coach was a wonderful man. He was my PE teacher while in High School. I remember how he treated all of his students the same. He taught us to respect everyone. It did not matter where you lived or what your financial situation was. You were the same in his eyes. My fondest memory of coach was all the times he would pull over, especially in the winter and give us a ride to school in his 1956 ford car. He did not have a back seat but we never thought anything about it. What a wonderful roll model and example for all of us to follow. He was also blessed with a wonderful wife. She took her wedding vow seriously. She was with him in sickness and in health. Caruthersville has been blessed with this special family. Our children need more people like the Parkinson's in their lives!

Mr Parkinson was a great man. I got the pleasure of speaking to his wife a few years back when I was visiting at the nursing home. They were both very wonderful and special people. Mr. Parkinson will live forever in my heart and will forever have fond memories of my time at CHS.

I think Joe was called "Spider Joe" because he was so tall and when he played basketball, he was all arms and legs like a spider.

Wow! Where to begin...what a man of integrity, honesty, strength, grace, justice, humility, calm, dignity, wisdom, insight. Truly a caring soul. A man of great perception. How I cherished his presence at CHS! How I cherished THE MAN! His sense of fairness exceeded many of that time. He had a keen sense of morality. He ALWAYS had a listening ear. I recall when he hired Professor Taylor and allowed us black students to have a class for black history. I recall telling someone if I had chosen my own father, his name would have been JOE PARKINSON! Thanks for the memories...thanks for the love!
