I found more info on this all over the internet.

This species can be found primarily in shallow coastal waters and is common in lagoons, bays, and river mouths. Bull sharks can also be found in fresh water that connects with salt water and have been caught in the Mississippi River as far upstream as Illinois.

Three years ago the Wildlife department was doing a fish census around the casino and I asked them that same question and they said that they had found bull sharks as far north as St. Louis. Kinda scary when you realize that bull sharks kill more people anualy than any other species, even great whites!

Oh you Mississippi River, with waters so deep and wide
My thoughts of you keep risin', just like an evening tide
I'm just like a seagull that's left the sea
Oh your muddy waters keep on callin'me

I'm gonna pack my grip and head that way
You'll see me hanging 'round again some day
'Cause I know that's the only way to lose
The Mississippi river blues

I've often ridden on your bosom
From Memphis down to New Orleans
[Mississippi River Blues lyrics on http://www.metrolyrics.com ]

Floating over muddy waters, drifting through familiar scenes
And when I hear that whistle of an old steamboat
Down that Mississippi river again I'm a-going to float

I'm gonna pack my grip and head that way
You'll see me hanging 'round again some day
'Cause I know that's the only way to lose
That mean old Mississippi river blues
The good and the bad

Our dad always said that there were rumors of German U-boats in the Ms. river during WWll as far north as New Madrid, so if subs can get up the river from the sea, surely sharks could. Also the rumors of the fish and game people using a black helicopter to drop 'gators' and sharks into the river at night, but for the purpose of controlling the 'jumping carp' an Asian species.

No I don't believe there were any German u-boats coming up the Mississippi River. But there are no locks or dams south of New Madrid either.

The WWII U-boat threat concern was the New Orleans harbor area and there was actions taken to protect it. There were very few German U-boats even capable of reaching the Gulf.
