Watching the state of the union address now and the look on the face of Speaker John Boehnr says it all how the republican party represents itself. PURE HATRED.

Didn't you see him laugh when Obama said he was saving America's healthcare? Doesn't that qualify as a smile?

I'm sorry Comrade did you have anything new to say? No?

For a lying hypocrite that hates Obama, why even watch? I caught the last few minutes and when the look on Boehner face and when GOP congress members refused to stand or applaud, says it all.

You think your diversity in politics will win the game. That's why your a hater and nothing more. I would love to see you debate Obama. Be the best bitch slap ever!

Republican Party has a knack for producing missed opportunities. They demonstrated this gift in typical striking form with a simplistic, pre-K style message following the State of the Union Address Tuesday night.

Rather than go for substance and illustrate the shortcomings, contradictions and outright falsehoods which were contained in Obama’s speech, they chose to have a little-known senator from Washington State, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, come on and tell us her life story.

While picking apples before dawn and saving money for college might have helped McMorris Rodgers to achieve her position as a U.S. senator, it truly is irrelevant as a follow-up to the State of the Union. There were plenty of erroneous points in the hour long speech that preceded her and that opportunity to counter won’t be available in the same forum or form ever again.

Her feel-good speech contained only mildly substantive points. Generalized counterpoints were as close as she came to an actual rebuttal.

Broad topics such as putting jobs first, expanding the economy, and improving education and skills training sound nice, but there is no beef on this burger.

It took McMorris Rodgers over six minutes, past the two-thirds point of the video before she mentions specific action on any issues. On amnesty, she reassuringly offered the Republican position as being opposed, as well as standing for lower taxes, cheap energy and affordable health care.

All of this should have been in the front part of the video. Her personal story could have waited for the hardback version on a shelf at Barnes and Noble.

In typical anecdotal fashion, McMorris Rodgers talks of a letter she received from a generic, anonymous person who is intended to represent anyone of the public at large. This one was called “Betty, from Spokane.”

Betty’s healthcare cost went up $700 per month under obamacare. She then makes the legitimate argument that a person’s healthcare decisions should be their own, not the government’s. She also issues a challenge to Obama to join Republicans in doing things the right way, by empowering people rather than spending them into poverty and unemployment.

She pitches the Republican Party by saying that these are the kind of things Republicans do every day because they believe in a government that trusts people.

The speech writers might see things differently, but who cares if the government trusts the people? It is irrelevant. The government shouldn’t be in the trust business. Government is intended to provide some necessary services and then get out of our way. Any trust in the relationship is directed from the people towards the government or as is our current situation, a lack of trust.

While she may be a nice lady and a good person, delivering a simplified nondescript message after enduring an hour of Barack Obama’s grand promises was hardly effective.

This is an example that the Republican leadership is inept in getting their message out. We are grownups and we can be talked to like adults. Even most Democrats should be able to communicate on an adult level.

Anyone who is on the other side of the fence who entertained the thought of finding out what the Republicans have to offer would have quickly had a change of heart. The messenger, a rural farm girl, talking rural farm background to Democrat voters living in urban areas, is not going to go anywhere.

It’s a safe bet that many of the televisions that were still on when she started talking went dark while McMorris Rodgers was still describing her “Four H” experiences in Kettle Falls.

What does race have to do with this?

Why are you and CW always bringing the color of someone skin into all these arguments?

The posts will start out with a subject and then someone replies and then a counter reply back and then you or CW start posting about race.

You brought it up not me or well
