I was out riding around today looking at our town. I drove by the new high school and I thought, what a beautiful building, Next, I came to the new building that will house the fire department and police station, a beautiful building. The next thing I noticed was all the improvements to the street on Ward Avenue. The next thing I looked at was the big house on West Third street that is being renovated. It had sat there a long time in a state of disrepair. I don't know who is doing the work but it is going to be magnificent. When I got home, the Democrat Argus was here and in reading it, I saw the Chili Cookoff advertised and the Craft show at the Armory. This town could be so much better if people would change their attitudes and appreciate the good things that are here. No town is perfect, no human is perfect but there are a lot of places worse than our town and a lot of places that are better but if everyone would work together, we could bring back the town we had years ago. Thanks for listening.

you are so right, our little town is starting to look better and we all should focus on the positive and not worry about what everyone else is doing.

Yes, Willow, I have also drove around our little town and been so proud of it. Now, as I have in the past,I can no longer turn my eye from the pure evil and hatred in this town. There are many wonderful people who live here and truly do love and care for their neighbors. Unfortunately, there far too many with so much evil and hatred in their hearts that I can no longer look the other way.

I plan to join the many who have made the decision to leave their home town and move on. It won't be a quick move because there are many things to consider in moving. I have begun my research, am searching my heart, and praying for guidance as I move toward this goal.

You see, if I stay, my heart will become filled with hatred toward the very individuals whom I am praying not to become like.

Think about it. People are the same everywhere. You just know them here.

I would say it is hard to be proud of coming from a place that has swinging naked teachers and juvenile officers that play together hen school is closed (no matter where they do it now) and they still have their jobs. Division II has been corrupt and hateful and hiding truth for decades. the citizens' biggest complaint about the mayor is her sexual preference. And where the new firehouse is going is over a "pillar"s place that sold drugs for years while his wife worked at the Sheriff's Department. A town where if you get off that road on any given day of the week you have to redirect yourself to avoid the thugs holding up traffice likr THEY pay the taxes. And not to mention the property crimes and then to to that off you called for help and get someone that Riggs put in place. NOW I understand why they were so disinterested in trying to solve the crimes. And this type of corruption has been going on for DECADES. I moved too. It was hard to believe it would ever get any better - and it didn't!!Go while you can.

I can understand your wanting to move. I moved back here in 1984 after being away for 22 years. At times I have thought about moving but I am trying to look at the positive things now. I really don't want to move away from my sisters, children and grandchildren. Good luck to you whatever you decide to do. Your post was very good.

Your post is such a breath of fresh air!

Thanks for reminding us of the many good things still in C'ville. It's wonderful - even with all the negative factors, such as (disaster, despair, unemployment, poverty, apathy, crime & drugs)- the city is overcoming & renewing itself.

Yes, Caruthersville has more than paid its dues - and it's time "the good people" take back their town and return it to the wonderful place we knew as children. Thanks to those who live in Caruthersville that are making a difference...

I would like to ask a question. When those teachers got caught in that sex mess at school did any of them get fired? I only heard about it through my pastor's wife several months ago. What was the deal?

You surely did not grow up in Caruthersville during the 50's & 69's to make such a cynical remark!

I'm sorry kids of today don't have the kinder, simplier, happier, secure, place and time that we knew as children.

Whatever responsiblity my generation bears for this decline in society's values & morals; I acknowledge my part - with my apologies...

Why did your pastors wife even gossip about it. Since she told you about something that happened over 5 years ago surely she can give you the details. When I started this post I did so with optimism hoping it would make people stop and think about good things, which are always present if you look for them, instead it has turned into the usual comments. What does a sex scandal have to do with my original post?

It is part of your glorious town. Is it really "gossip" if it is all true?? They ALL still have their jobs. The buildings have nothing to do with the town. It is the people. It is the haves condemning the have nots when they are all just as capable of a fall from grace as anyone. In my opinion it is not the actual scandal or fall that was so apalling it is the way it was handled or should I say NOT handled. Just like everything else around there is handled unless you are a have not.

"Wow", I have an idea, why don't you, Karma & MMMM MMMM get off this thread and create your own tread where you can gossip, and talk scandals all day long.

Obviously, you are on the wrong thread because none of you are mature enough to carry on an adult conversation.

This thread was created as a tribute to how far C'ville has come since the tornado. So, if you don't intend to add anything of substance or anything uplifting stay off this thread.

I've always heard - if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. So, quit dragging Caruthersville down with your whinning and complaining and either get off your butt and do something to make Caruthersville a better place or get out and stay out!!!

People like you - who do nothing but berate, gossip, whine & complain is a big part of what's wrong with Caruthersville - are you too dumb to see this???
please

Well, I've posted on C'ville Topix long enough to know that this is the only language a lot of posters understand. I used to be super nice, polite and well mannered - but that didn't work. So, I realized you sometimes have to be tough to get your point across sometimes.

Like I said before - Caruthersville has paid it's dues and the last thing this town needs is a bunch of whinning gossiping whimps coming on Topix and berating this town and trying to stir up as much gossip and trouble as they can. All this vulgar filthy language has no place on a public forum. It is a disgrace to the whole town - and a terrible reflection on community.

Caruthersville needs people who will step up to the plate and try to make the town a better place. Caruthersville used to be a town to be proud of, a wonderful place to raise a family and a place many of us fondly remember from our childhool.

With the right kind of teamwork and people who care, Caruthersville could again be this kind of place. If I still lived there I would be doing all I could to promote the town and working tirelessly to make it a better place to live...

I'm sorry if you don't agree with my method of getting my point across...

Nothing happened to any of them,a few jumped on the *look at me I am a christian now* band wagon to look better, the select few and the very rich will always get away with everything, it's the same in all small towns..........

i agree our town is looking better but!! there are three main roads into caruthersville, two of those roads are littered with churchills garbage. it looks horrible, the road from hayti is an eyesore, you have to look at teroys mess that looks like a tornado has hit it,been that way for years, then you have two car lots of churchills that looks like splattered crap, fortunately bj has made his place look nice cause its the only one that looks nice, highway u would look allot better if, once again you got rid of churchills mess out there, so that leaves south ward, nice houses, a beautifull church right off the highway, wish that was the only way in so people would get a good first impression of our town instead of seeing garbage and junk cars. Our downtown is looking better but once again you have building that are falling apart and who owns them?? churchill!!. why is this one man the reason our town looks so bad from the outside??? Our mayor and other leaders have done an excellent job everywhere else getting our town looking good. nice streets, nice fire station, it looks really good.
