There are a lot of ignorant people that rail against these subsidies, but ignore, or are just ignorant of the enormous amount of other subsidies that cost them much more in tax dollars than farm subsidies, and benefit them much less. I would like to be around to hear what these ignorant people have to say when they will have to spend upwards of 30%-35%, or possibly even more, of their disposable income on basic food requirements; money that is now spent on wants, rather than needs. I believe the future, within the next 10 to 30 years, will bring severe adjustments in the economic structure of this nation and throughout the world. I believe life styles will be changed in ways unimaginable to most of the people in this country today. Changes that are not going to be received with pleasure.
When these changes come to be, these ignorant, malcontented, misfits of society will have to direct their bellyaching to things much more serious than farm subsidies.
I would like to see them boil in their own sauce. Sorry, I just have an extremely low tolerance for the kind of stupidity and ignorance these people display.
I am in total agreement with your views on this subject. Very intelligent, well written post. What a lot of people don't realize is that farmers are a slave to the weather depending on whether or not they will have a crop in a given year. I was fornunate to have a state job, it did not matter what the weather was, my income was the same. As for subsidies, government checks are a sussidy for people who don't work anywhere. Go figure. Have a nice evening.

tons of "unpicked" cotton plants were cut down in pemiscot county during the depression, as you couldn't find anyone to pick due to price - sadly, there were no farm subsidies to assist - hope this doesn't happen again due to a government that has gone haywire - unbelievable how few people know how to survive without modern markets - hope we never have to find out

that's because the cotton has just recently got ready to pick and the rain has played a factor in getting it out.

Did you think that his name is also on the account whether or not what the checks say if that's where you are getting your info from? My dad was on his parents as over their account and would write checks and so on. I don't think it doesn't matter and of no concern that she has passed. Call the bank if you are so concerned about such non importance.

It's not just the farmers that owe money! Non farmers owe money too. And it's people that you THINK have money and they are living on credit and practically paycheck to paycheck.

I know this to be true! Some of the Country Clubbers and many other people in town are having this problem trying to "keep up with the Jones". There are really only a few well off people in town and they don't flaunt it because they know they have money and don't have to try and put on a show. You see the fake ones, husband & wife get a new leased vehicle every one or two years. And they are mortgaging their house to make nicer just to "show off". I know a few that do that.

Don’t know how it came to be that the old saying is “keeping up with the Joneses”… it could have been Smith, or anything else for that matter. Anyway, a wise man named Jones once told me to not worry about keeping up with the Joneses. He said I should just stay where I am and meet them on their way back. As another old saying goes,“What goes up must come down.” It may take the third generation to pizz it all off, but it will happen. Think about it.
