Why do people refer to Carthage as SCHS, it is Carthage, the school is not the only high school in the county.GO BIG BLUE,Gordonsville rolls over CARTHAGE!!!!

No, big blue! It's Smith County High School and they are the Owls!! You may not be aware, but they own the Tigers!! You have one thing right. The tiggers do tend to ROLL OVER for the Owls.

I don't hate Gordonsville at all. I love the place. I hope the kids win 14 games this year and put another trophy in that case. That being said, I want SC to put a drilling on that tail right good and leave no doubt as to which program is superior in this county. I get tired of hearing the way the majority of the "adults" over there speak of SCHS and our football program. I've heard since last year's choke job how "next year" this and "next year" that. Well next year is now and once again it's time to put up or shut up. Gordonsville won't win! Write it down! You heard it here. Thing is, you won't shut up, either!! 27-13 SC.
No!I won't shut up!I support my team, just like you!I sure wouldn't call your team "superior" if I was you.SUPERIOR teams or team is the state title winners in the past and present.nuf said!

I think the owls should add more single "A" schools to their schedule so they can brag more and maybe even make their record look better!

Oh, I would say 11 in a row and winning 80% of the games in the entire history would qualify as the superior program!! Heck, you guys barely have a handful of wins since your prized single A trophies.

This is exactly why a majority of the coaches from both sides would like to discontinue this s called rivalry. One side keeps getting drilled and finds it hard to compete. The other side would rather be playing better competition and has absolutely nothing to gain by playing. Speaking of making a record "look" better, don't you have
RBS, MTCS, Clay Co., Monterey, Jackson Co. on your slate. Smith County would never offer to lose to such powerhouses.

Well lord..this has turned out better than i expected...lol...anyway, i am a gordonsville grad but not a fan of the school or athletic program..its definately time for gordonsville to try and move up in class i think..as far as the county rivalry goes...its great for the county and for both schools..its generally a decent game to watch too..as far as who owns who...well...gordonsville would hafe to win each year for like 60 years before they could even begin to bragg...the tigers thru the years have generaly faced weaker competition in the division as well as outside the division...this is why when you get to a solid program like south pit you generally lose...other side of the river here i come...owls...you cant win the big one...when it counts you havnt gotten it done...you are a strong team every year in your class but lets face it...until you jump the hurdle and win a few big ones your going to remain just strong...and dont tell me about all your 4 or 5 team division championships either...they mean nothing...i am a big owl fan..i have family that plays for the owls...so go big owls...but..with that being said...both teams are strong..and have been strong for a long time..but lets face it...theres a huge difference between strong and a champiion...wich neither the owls nor tigers are...good day to you all

TSSAA sets most of the games you just mentioned, not the schools. So I suggest if you don't like it complain to them.At least playing other single A schools is comparing apples to apples.Who has been the regional champs more?

You mean to tell me,that Carthage would rather not play us,and play someone else, because they dont have nothing to gain! Bullshit! The enjoy playing us,because of the 11 year streak. Also your record speaks volumes also....Jackson Co...Cannon Co.,...Baxter,...Macon Co.,etc....These are such powerhouses! Give me a break!

You keep mentioning our prized trophies...Dam,they must be really bothering you!
Carthage wouldn't know what a superior program was if it slapped them in the face!
Also....GO GREEN!!! Save the trees, and wipe your ASS ON AN OWL instead!

Well,I know Gordonsville has a good team and so does Smith it's always a good one,but I've heard from a few of Carhage's boys say Gville will win .So,my money riding on the good ole' Blue! One way or the other they will knock each other sideways.Gordonsville barring injuries will be in the state championships. When was the last time these kids on the youth team got beat by Smith.Smith county has the better coach ,so that mite tell the tell!

You tell me, then, what Smith County High School has to gain by continuing the series? The only possible argument would be the marginally better gate $ than a well represented 4A or 5A team would bring. SCHS, being the larger school, is supposed to win the game. If they shouldn't, which hasn't happened in awhile, and is not a favorite to this season, then Gordonsville struts for a year till their next decade long drought. SCHS steps out and plays very good programs out of district regularly. White House, Knox Catholic, Franklin Co. to name a few. Name a time when Gville has done so, pryor to the current 10 team district?? Gville is like that snotty nose little kid from the neighborhood who always takes the beating, yet keeps thumping that chest screaming how bad they are. LOL 27-13 Owls!!

For every kid from affluence you can name I can name you 5 from less privileged backgrounds. At Smith County, the best player plays, period. There are coaches in place that have no ties to here. They do not bring any favoritism in placing players. Unlike Gordonsville, where every coach wore blue and white.

You got one thing right,no matter what G'vill keeps coming at you beating or not.As far as what to gain is obviously money, which is important to both schools, but also the rivalry. The kids get fired up for this game and brings them up to a higher level of play and probably makes both teams better than they would be without it for the whole year.If you had ever played in this game you would understand. It's obvious that most of the posters on here never played for either school, because even though we hated each other on the field,we grew up and became good friends in most cases.By some of the comments on here it's obvious some people haven't grown up yet.

Just looked at the owls schedule, don't see Knox Catholic or Franklin Co anywhere on it.Do see Westmoreland,Macon CO,Upperman,Cannon Co.....is that the powerful schedule you brag of??

You did see White House, did you not?? Only see what you can through your blue tinted glasses!! You can't play a perennial power every non-district week. Although it would be fine with me if the series was discontinued and allow SC to play a better program that travels and supports well in that spot. Macon Co. is a close school that brings a great crowd. The gate for that game will be very close to what the Gordonsville gate will be. Tell me one one team that you could substitute SC for and do as well?? Upperman and Cannon Co. are district games. Westmoreland is periodically placed in our district.

As for your "each team makes the other one better" argument, I'd say that has been the case for Gordonsville in recent years. Not so much for the Owls. Better competition all over the schedule. Face it, in 3 of the last 4 years, even in 2007 when the talk was like it is now, the Tigers haven't really challenged Smith County. This year, at least, it has the potential to be a game.
Potential is just that, however.

Oh, I played in the series. I have a lot of friends that wore blue and white. A few of them even see it the way I do. As I said, I hope the Tigers win 14 games and win it all. I just SC to pull their tales first!!
