Spent some time in your area a few weeks ago, saw the new high school and hear you have plans to build a new junior high. On the surface, it looks nice, until one looks at the school financials and you clearly couldn't afford to build the type of building you did. YOur district relies heavily on tax dollars from northern Illinois, last I checked only about 25% of your revenue comes from local taxes, the rest comes from state aid.. the district looks like the guy on food stamps driving around in a new car!! No wonder the state is in the condition it is.

Why not spend your own money on your own schools and to educate your own kids instead of expecting the taxpayers of northern Illinois to do it for you? You guys are a welfare district, yet there you sit building a nice new schools with athletic facilities that are way beyond what other small districts have.

Check the scores. Carterville is at the top academically. Sounds like jealousy.

Someone is green with envy! So sorry you didn't get the joys of growing up in the perfect little town..Carterville is my home and always will be..Also,how is it the residents fault that the school is improving? The old schools were in bad shape cause they were old..Dont hate, appreciate ;)

Then the residents of the town should have paid for their OWN school, not expected state welfare to pick up the tab. The school district I live in has 4 high schools, all 5X as nice as your school, over last 11 years we have spent over $500M on building 3 new schools and upgrading the original. And we did so without a single penny of state dollars.

You people can't afford to build a new school, the state is broke, but there you sit continuing to suck the last bit of money from the state.

So jealous..How 'bout you worry about your town and we worry about ours? Carterville is FAR-from poor! That old h.s. had sewage issues, only one set of bathroom for hundreds and hundreds of students..Again,the RESIDENTS had no control over how much the state granted them for building..Ohhh but I bet that sports complex and NFL status of a football field really sets it off..Not tryin to be rude here but move on as your rants smell of utter jealousy (sorry, but it's true)p

Well ,our 4 high schools are all 10X the facilities as your rinky dink school and the sports facilities are much nicer, so why would I be jealous?

Carterville is well below the median income level in the state, the one thing you guys seem to be good at is holding out your hand for welfare while the state is going broke.

And since its MY tax dollars being talked about here, I have earned the right to talk about this subject.

And lets not overlook at Carterville is an annual drain on state tax dollars, local tax dollars only make up about 30% of their budget while the state average is around 60%.. Keep sucking off the rest of the taxpayers!

I totally agree with your comments "outraged" but you cant these c-ville Hillbillies to understand that if we couldnt afford it than we should have built something within our budget. Instead they suck off the entire state of Illinois like a Welfare Leach to fullfill their Ego needs....

Most of the cost for the construction of the new high school in Carterville was paid for using the proceeds from a county-wide sales tax...voted on and approved by the citizens of Williamson County. Each school district in the county is receiving proportioned revenue from this 1% sales tax. Although the Carterville district did receive some capital development money, it was well after the building process had already started (using local revenue). Carterville (as well as the other districts in Williamson Co.) WAS being financially responsible.
If anything, Carterville School District should be commended for getting so much out of their previous high school...which lasted them over 80 years. If they have utilized the same building since the Great Depression, they would be entiltled to a little state aid.

Carterville schools recieved a $22.5M capital improvement grant, so blind you don't even know where the welfare is coming from.

In addition to that, your schools are raking in an amazing $4578 a year per student in state aid, plus another roughly $1500 per student in federal aid. By comparison, the district I live in gets $1349 from the state and $413 from the federal.

Not that it really matters, but we live in Indian Prairie 204 as of now, but are moving to LW210 before school starts, our kids will attend East. Those schools do just fine, both considered about the best in the state, far beyond anything Carterville tosses out there.

I am so happy for you. We are not worthy to be in the same state as you. By the way, the next time you eat,- thank a farmer. The next time you admire wildlife, thank Carterville, who has 50% of its district in wildlife refuge. Consider the state aid and federal money as payment on property tax for the refuge in our lowly district. It will allow a small person as yourself to sleep better at night.

It might be different if they could field a football team but now that they finally got kicked out of their pre-school conference (BD) they cant hardly even win a game. Cannon getting a little rusty girls.......

LMFAO. Ah yes, Carterville really had a terrible season in the R2R.

They finished 7-4 and beat Harrisburg (the Ohio champs) on the road in the playoffs.

Herrin, on the other hand, lost to Harrisburg at home 19-6 in regular season, which cost them the weaker Ohio title.

LOL -- you should probably get your facts straight ya dummy. haha

I will bet money that the district we are moving to has more ag production that the Carterville school district, so not even sure what your point is supposed to be there other than desperation. A few of you are tossing out lies and meaningless bits of information to justify your school being a welfare mamma living in a house you can't afford.
