My post from last night was not included. I'm wondering if the reporter on the 11 pm news last night ever retracted his incorrect report about the cause of the northside booms in 2004.

I heard it...at first I thought it was thunder but the sun was out. I thought that maybe it was a sonic boom from some plane overhead...not that I saw one. I waited to see if I could hear sirens to rule out an explosion. I wonder what it was...it was loud.
By the way I'm in Flatrock area of Powhatan.

Living in midlothian,I too heard a loud "boom" noise. Now I'm thinking, could the noise heard in western chesterfield county be associated to that massive EARTH QUAKE in South America. As stange as it may sound, I believe it was. The timing is surely relevant. The noise I heard was like muffled thunder, off in the distance but loud at the same time!
Coming from deep under ground maybe??? Mother nature works in mysterious ways sometimes. There was only the noise, no shaking.
I believe you're exactly right. The Earth's crust is made up of plate tectonics, and an Earthquake is the result of these plates shifting. When these plates shift, others will re-adjust as well in order for these plates to fit together like a puzzle, if you will. The Commonwealth of Virginia has 7 fault lines:
Mountain Run Fault, Brookneal Fault, Shores Fault, Lakeside Fault, Spotsylvania Fault and the Hylas Fault. It's not dismissable to assume that the recent Earthquakes caused a slight shift in one of our fault lines which made the large "BOOM" sound similar to the one in 2003 in the Virginia Seismic Zone. The earthquake in 2003 near Richmond was due to a slip along the Lakeside fault in this zone which is part of the Piedmont region that extends from New Jersey to Alabama.

Richmond, VA? Well, it's not much of a stretch to imagine a Naval Aviator in an FA-18A crossing the sound barrier either accidentally or on mission orders. Back in the late 50s in Kingston, TN, we used to hear sonic booms most of the day every day from the Air National Guard's jets up in Knoxville. For people who've never heard one, which almost nobody today has, they could be frightening. They were loud, violent, explosive-shock waves. Sometimes they broke windows in peoples' houses. Because of the sonic booms' destructive nature, nowadays it's illegal for aircraft to break the sound barrier over the United States in all but a very few places. Almost all supersonic flights today take place far out over the ocean.

Here in Louisiana we had a loud boom that was heard in about a 300 mile radius. We thought gas pipeline blew up but no, they didn't find that. They said sonic boom but Barksdale was confirmed not having anything that would make a sonic boom. They say they didn't have anything flying in the area that evening. So we have an unexplained boom also. This is weird.

That's interesting. When did it happen?? I wonder if there are any reports on aerospace activity.

it happened yesterday about 3:30 pm. The want to say sonic boom but our air force base doesn't ahve anything to do that so confirmed by KNOE TV8, And Barksdale had nothing flying in area. This is very odd. I've been googling and found some mysterious booms in Feb in Virgina, some in Kentucky recently.. This is strange
