There have been a lot of people at both exits from 75 onto 20 in Cartersville with signs asking for help. I have noticed them changing shifts, walking up to cars parked up the road, standing with an empty gas can, among other suspicious things. My wife tried to give one of these people in the walmart parking lot a loaf of french bread. She pulled up to him and he ran up to her with a little puppy in his arms and a sign that said "Homeless, will take anything." When she offered the bread he said "nah we're fine" and walked away. Next time you stop, offer them food and drink instead of money and see what they say.

I agree half the people here in cartersville that do this crap are NOT homeless and just want money..

I see the same people every week. About 2 weeks ago I was sitting at the light on 41 by the hospital waiting to turn into CVS. I saw 2 men arguing over the spot at that intersection. The person with the long white hair finally huffed off. I'm pretty sure they were arguing over territory because that's a long light so I got to watch for a while.

I run a business in this general vicinity. It's like night of the living dead around here especially after dark. Some of these men and women are legitimately homeless are basically unemployable. I would feel more empathy for these people if they didn't spend most of the day passed out drunk behind the gas stations in the area. It's a constant cycle. Beg, get drunk, pass out. I never thought the day would come when I had to police the parking lot for syringes in Cartersville. A number of them actually live at the Guest House and wander to the corner to do their day's "work". Some just seem to show up out of nowhere. Those are the ones that kind of bug me. I never see them walking anywhere. They had to get there somehow. I hope this doesn't come across as homeless bashing. Not what I intended.

Don't feel bad. It's reality. Most of these people have problems for sure but as long as they are enabled ( as their families probably understand) they will continue the cycle. Also when word spreads that this is a lucrative place to engage in his behavior we will be inviting more people to this area to continue this cycle instead of seeking help.

It's not that it's a lucrative area so much as its a safe area from police. Panhandling and begging doesn't go on in Cobb County, because it is illegal and it is enforced! If the Cartersville and Bartow police would enforce the laws the people in Cartersville wouldn't have to deal with the bums! Panhandling is illegal, start arresting people for it!!

And how far would your self respect have to fall to send you to the side of the road with a sign and a cup to beg for money? You are your brothers keeper.

And by the way, that's a pretty self-righteous use of Christ's name.

It does occur in Cobb County and is not enforced. I work in the vicinity of Highway 5 and 41. In addition to numerous tent cities visible from the roads, there are consistently panhandlers out and usually the same ones.

Lets get back on topic shall we? Has anyone offered to buy gas for the guy with the gas can instead of giving money?
