I was coming back from Canton .. heading towards Cartersville on Hwy 20 today (Saturday, Jan. 12th) around 4pm when traffic came to a stop. After almost an hour, someone turned around and started telling folks that a fatal crash had occurred further up the road, and it would be a minimum of 4 hours before traffic could resume. We all started turning around. Does anyone know the details of the crash ? Who ? How ? and was it in front of the Timberlake Subdivision ?? Thanks ....

I heard onthe scanner that it was car vs motorcycle. Caller stated that man on motorcylcle wasn't breathing. They said they had life flight on standby and when EMS showed up the guy on the motorcycle was DOA. I heard the name of the road it was just b4, but I do not remember. Would if I heard it.

I was stuck in this horrible traffic as well on Saturday. I thought it was probably a fatality. Very sad. There have been a lot of motorcycle related deaths on Hwy. 20. Some of them drive like they are invincible! Not saying that is what happened with this man but I have seen it before and I am amazed. Prayers to the family....

I live on Holly Drive, this accident happened directly in front of my home, and I just happened to be getting my mail from the box when it happened. It appeared that the motorcycle rider was trying to pass the car in front of him, and misjudged the distance between himself and the car. I heard the impact, then turned around to see the bike sliding down the highway. The rider was lying in the highway. I ran to the highway, by the time that I got to him, another man had already gotten to him and checked his pulse, which was non-existant. I, along with several other people called 911. In regards to whomever wrote about respect; there were several cars that did not have the respect to stop and drove right on past the scene. As for the moron who wrote that people were standing around like idiots; you have no idea what you're talking about. I arrived at the man's side within seconds of the crash, and can tell you almost without doubt that he was killed instantly. There was nothing that anyone could do for him, other than pray for his family. I cannot say one way or the other whether or not this was totally operator error, but it should serve as notice to all of the other morons that I witness daily who ride these bikes up and down Hwy. 20 at 100mph+. I wish peace sympathy to Mr. Perla's family.

Elvin Perla and his family are my neighbors, across the street. We were unaware of the horrible accident until Rolando, Elvin's father came to let us know. We will be there for him to support and pray. Elvin was a wonderful, handsome, polite, and smiling guy. He loved his family and was very close to his father. He and his dad worked landscaping and spent a lot of time making their yard beautiful. Elvin has a beautiful little boy, who I think is 3 years old now. Thank you everyone for your kind words and prayers. Liseth, please let us know if there's anything at all we can do. We'll come by again soon to check on you guys. Cindy

Elvin Perla and family are my neighbors, as well, for over 3 years now. I can say without question there was always a smile, a kind word, and friendly conversation whenever we met. This is a horrible tradgedy and he will be missed. To Rolando, Liseth, and the rest of the family - my thoughts and prayers are with you. Please do not hesitate to call if there's anything at all I can do for you. David.

I am still disturbed by what has happened. And if it was his fault then let this be a lesson learned for those riding out there, be careful. If it wasn't I pray that the person that didn't allow my friend to go by realizes if it was worth it to not. Not only his family is grieving, but all of his friends and family who knew Elvin. It was hard for me to express myself the other day at the funeral. I think this hit everyone by surprise. Liseth, let your family know how David and I feel. We did not only lose a friend but someone who was like a brother. He had the most beautiful smile and big shiny eyes. That just made you smile by looking at him. I can only think of the times he encouraged us and tried to make us laugh when we were facing hard times. He would cry and share the pain when we were hurting. I regret not being able to spend more time with him lately and not telling him how much I appreciated all the times he heard me out and advised me with all my personal drama. My brother looked up to him and this has hurt him very much. I not only mourn for him but for the emptiness my brother is feeling and will feel, because Elvin was his only true friend. We will keep all of the memories we shared with him close to our hearts. We pray for your family everyday. And like I told your dad. All those people who care and appreciate what both of them have done are here for your family. They are both great men!! And I do pray to see him in Heaven. This has been a big eye opener for me and has made me want to be better so that I can personally tell Elvin how grateful I am for the friendship he gave to my brother and I in heaven.(Anna y David)

Im Elvis Perla, one of Elvin's cousin. Is a priviledge for me to have almost the same name like my cousin Elvin. When my uncle Rolando told my mom about the accident I wasn't there, but when I got home she told me that my cousin Elvin was an accident, I was amased about the big news that crash into my heart like a hurricane because it was something unspected for me because I wasn't waiting for a news like that. When I was in Georgia I ride in his motorcycles. I knew it was dangerous, but I like it, like my cousin Elvin. Like my Family and I live in Maryland, we went all the way to Georgia to see my cousin for the last time. So now Im just waiting for Jesus to come back for the second time, and look at my cousin alive going to heaven with Jesus to live with him for an eternity.
R.I.P Elvin R. Perla. We miss you, but I know we are going to see you again when Jesus comes back. I Love You Elvin R. Perla

Not to mention the cars that just pull out in front of motorcyles. All to often you hear. I just didn't see the motorcycle. And Yes I ride motorcycles and have seen this many times. And Yes, some do drive like they are invincible, but it's not always the case/
