Burger King is getting whopped over its plan to avoid U.S. taxes by fleeing to Canada.
People flooded the fast-food chain’s Facebook page on Monday with threats of a boycott after the company announced talks to merge with Canadian coffee and doughnut chain Tim Hortons. The combined company would be headquartered in Canada.
Burger King is just the latest American company to attempt a so-called tax inversion -- where a bigger U.S. company buys a smaller foreign firm in a country with a lower tax rate, renounces its U.S. corporate citizenship and then reincorporates in the other nation. Politicians and pundits have said the moves amount to little more than unpatriotic ploys to avoid paying taxes.

I say fine, Burger King. Shut down your US stores and enjoy Canada, eh?

By now, the tendency of news shows to frame seemingly inflammatory suggestions in the form of a question is well-known. Jon Stewart memorably riffed on what he called the "Cavuto," named after the Fox News anchor's love of the tactic.
Monday's "Fox & Friends" featured a doozy of a Cavuto in a discussion about the media coverage death of Michael Brown:
"Is 'Unarmed Teen' Description Misleading?" Fox News contributor Linda Chavez was the one asking this question.
There's a very easy answer.
Michael Brown was a teenager. He was unarmed. Therefore, describing him as an "unarmed teen" is the definition of "factual."

Way to stay classy, Fox.

To set the record straight..........Brown was 18 years old, an adult by any law in the land..........6 feet, 4 inches tall and weighting 300 lbs..........fractured the eyesocket of the cop, and manhandled the store clerk he robbed........he was no pushover.......

Well well well..........Ole Buffet the Obama lover..........

" Burger King on Tuesday confirmed plans to acquire Ontario-based Tim Hortons for about $11 billion—creating a new company to be based in Canada with combined sales of $23 billion.

Berkshire Hathaway Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett is helping to fund the deal by committing $3 billion of preferred equity financing. The news release on the deal did not disclose the terms for Berkshire, which is only a financing source and will not have any participation in the management and operation of the business."

I wonder if those same dummy facebook libroids will overload Buffet's facebook link.......

"Yep, folks who play with BIG finance play fast and loose with economies on a very large scale and on a much smaller scale, perhaps you could tell us the success rate of Berkshires Hathaway or any of the other endeavors of George Soros, since you've admitted that Bain did fail and that failure hurt folks."

Corporations moving is old news, long before Obama. Plus Obama is only one of the THREE branches of government, what about the do nothing Congress, they bear the lions share of blame. If your analogy were true the only answer to corporate growth is the China model, the most successful in recent history. We are all out of the loop in that model.
Corporations move because they are no longer American corporations, they are multinational corporations who have moved jobs offshore to increase profits at the expense of middle class American jobs. And they shelter profits in foreign countries to avoid tax, and in some instances to pay reduced rates.
. In the case of Burger King who makes nothing and pays notoriously low wages at its outlets if they closed tomorrow they would not be missed. They are only a shadow of what they once were, and it was because of mismanagement and lousy food. They will not be missed and this is going to be a another example of more of the same for Burger King. Their headquarter really remains in Miami, sounds like tax evasion to me.
As for corporations that actually matter its our markets, our transportation system and our system of government that made them. They should pay one way or the other, we certainly have and will continue to pay for corporate greed. And that's all it is, corporations don't dance to the same song as in the past. Todays corporate managers are only interested in the stock price today, not even that concerned with profit. Its all about the stock and the stockholders. Day trading and stock transfers that happen in seconds have killed the old fashion way where they made things, sold them for a profit and paid stockholder dividends and that's what influenced stock prices. Today its the stock price in an hourly window that matters. The answer is simple, corporations that want to make money in the U.S., but move offshore for cheap wages or lower taxes, charge them tariffs on goods coming in or goods sold here. The rich just get richer, but you are and always will be a clueless moron. Some things never change.
I decided to take another look at the above glittering jewel of ignorance and found this little piece of "wisdom":

"As for corporations that actually matter its our markets, our transportation system and our system of government that made them. "

Well, hot damn, I didn't realize that all it took to create a multimillion dollar business that employs thousands of people were "our markets, our transportation system and our system of government."
Where do I get in line to get one?

Where have you been, the idiot fringe has done nothing for years but complain about Obama doing things without the consent of congress. Doesn't matter that congress does nothing or that what Obama has done is completely within the powers granted to the President. You people do NOTHING but bitch and moan. Get YOUR people to do what they get paid to do in Congress, and holding hearings on every other Tuesday for purely political reasons is NOT what they are paid to do. They are paid to govern, not consider every move they make or don't make based on what the polling number in their districts will say. The job is not to run for political office on a full time basis the job is to govern and they haven't done that since the Tea Party sprung up from the feces that is politics. You bring the phrase clueless and uneducated to new highs.
Let's see, I wrote:
"Plus Obama is only one of the THREE branches of government,"
Congratulations on the one intelligent thing you said. Now would you please remind Obama of that little fact."

You responded with:
"Where have you been, the idiot fringe has done nothing for years but complain about Obama doing things without the consent of congress."

Okay, thanks for confirming what I wrote, but whatever.

Next, "congress does nothing". Well let's see, the current Congress has passed over 570 bills and joint resolutions, 142 of which have been signed into law by Obama. That leaves over 300 sitting in the Senate awaiting action, some are in committee but most are being held up because Harry Reid won't allow them to come to the floor. Most are noncontroversial, most have bipartisan support and 55 were Democrat sponsored. So, just who again is "do nothing"?

And to use just one example, hearings to uncover the ILLEGAL and POLITICAL tactics used by the IRS to shut up conservative organizations ARE part of the job of legislators in order to protect the First Amendment rights that yes, even conservatives, are allowed to have.

Well, if you think you can do it without American citizens educated in American institutions, and without American infrastructure, including roads, water, sewage, power, and networking,--

If you think you can do it without American stability and legal protection and without armed services and financial institutions- if you can do it without American taxpayer funded airports and ports and law enforcement -

You get in line in Somalia. It's the Galt's Gulch you've been dreaming about. See how it thrives? No government to speak of, No laws, none of those pesky regulatons. Everything a libertarian / tea bagger dreams of.

Enjoy your trip.

I am skimming the left wing propaganda and gibberish posts and wondering....if the Republicans are doing such a poor job, why is it sounding as if they are going to take the Senate in the midterms? Sounds to me as if the Democrats are the ones who are doing a poor job. I find it amusing the lunatic left on this forum take every thing they read from their left wing propaganda sites as the absolute "word" with no consideration that they just MIGHT be wrong, however, not ONE conservative has denied that FOX has a right wing slant. Not one. THAT is why I think you left wingers are the dumbest people on this earth. You are just so......gullible. lol Lawdy. I don't even bother proving you wrong anymore or AT LEAST showing you another point of view. You just go in circles and it's a waste of time. You have asked for the same proof over and over. It's just a game with you. At any rate, I guess we'll see how this all plays out. In the meantime, think about it. If you propaganda fed progressives were even close to being right, your candidates wouldn't be so vulnerable. You rant on and on about the do nothing Republicans, but I keep reading article after article about the vulnerability of your candidates for the midterms. Hmmmmm......

Let's see how this works - eightTEEN - yep, looks like TEEN is right there in the word.

Nope, it's not the law of the land, each state sets their own age of majority, some are 18, some are not.

Nope, the xray for the eye sock was lifted off the internet and altered to remove the U of Iowa identify.

Manhandled store clerk, who knows, where's the clerk's testimony.

Robbed the store, may or maybe not, where's the clerk's testimony.

Lap up that puke the Faux Spews.

Nope, sure didn't, just pointed out that entities that play in financial markets have an impact on economies large and small, some times for better, some times for the worse. Besides, as you friend Bill from Dunceville has told us repeatedly, the only responsibility a business has is to make a profit for their shareholders - who or how many get hurt along the way are of little consequence.

And you're still a putz.
