Gold's is terrible. Just recently, they significantly cut their hours. Consequently, they asked for more money for two different options, 1 - allowing more friendly weekend hours (Sunday was cut altogether and Saturday halved) and 2 - a quasi-24-hour deal (excluding Saturday 5 p.m. to Sunday 12 p.m.). Most of the equipment is dated and very worn, especially the treadmills and ellipticals. A couple moths ago, one of two stall toilets was fininally repaired after a long period of disrepair. The door on the stall was ripped-off, so management replaced it with a curtain. A women's gym from another part of town was invited into the gym reducing the men's workout space and overcrowding the equipment. To say the least, the gym is poorly ran.

I am a curent contracted member who looks forward to signing with another gym more focused on quality equipment, contiually provided and maintained amenities, and management focused on the customer's experience.

Where do you work? If at all possible you should consider L.A. Fitness. There are locations on Wade Green and Barrett Parkway, about 20 miles away, and it is much nicer than anything here in town. Also, rumor is that there will be a location in Cartersville in the future. BodyPlex is a joke and will just try to sell you on "personal training" and Golds' equipment is worn out. L.A. has an indoor pool and hot tub at each location! How can you beat that??

Good luck finding another gym. you should have seen the old golds,
next to the pet store. you are just a complainer. Danny has always done me right $22/month. good luck beating that price. And the place is not outdated. Yes, they cut their hours, but I am sure you don't work 14 hours/day. Love the place and highly reccomend it. They have everything but a swimming pool. go buy you a p90x and stay at home.

la fitness will screw you, and I would like to know what you mean by outdated equipment, because they spent over 1 million on that equipment. Didn't know a hot tub was a workout. You all don't know what a workout even is.

My wife and I were members at Gold's for a few years and it was decent but not great. The bathrooms and locker rooms never seemed all that clean but the equipment was ok and it was rarely so crowded that there was a wait for anything. We were paying $70 or so a month for the two of us because we signed on right after they opened in their new location. They were advertising rates lower than that later on though which was pretty annoying. When our contract was up I asked if they'd lower our rate but they weren't willing to. We'd have probably kept with them if they would have cut the rate but they didn't so I bought a treadmill to use at home instead.

depends on who you deal with. I have been there since 97. about 4 years ago they tried to charge me a $50 fee when I was renewing,
and i said I am not paying that, and they renewed it for what I have been paying since 97. I think they have finally realized to just charge a flat rate. If you pay more than $250/yr, you are paying to much. Just signed a family member for that rate 2 weeks ago.

The only time a gym has ever tried to "screw" me was a Golds. Not the C'ville location but Golds nonetheless. When did they spend this million dollars? 10 years ago? Because they're due for a refresh. If you read what I said before it was "pool and hot tub" and swimming is most definitely a workout. Good luck promoting your gym.

I am a member of Bodyplex and I love it. I have been there for over 4 years and never felt pressured into anything I did not want. I'm not sure what their policy is now, but they use to offer 3 free visits. I'm sure other gyms offer free trials as well. You should check them all out. Bodyplex has gotten a lot of new equipment, and just recently got all new spin bikes!

Not impressed with Body Plex. We had a membership for the past year, and felt like the gym was in need of some good cleaning, and repair of some of the equipment. Now they have adopted the cross-fit program and got rid of 50% of their floor equipment to make space for the over sized swing set contraption that cross-fit uses. Plus, they are pushing pushing pushing their training, and basically looking for ways to make more $$$. Sad thing is, they will lose their loyals and try and appeal to those that are looking for a quick fix and sign up for the training. Yes, some people budget for a trainer, but most use them for a while and then stop... Overall we were not impressed and felt very out of the loop with regard to the changes the gym made, and what impact the membership would have with regard to their decisions.

So, we are on the hunt for another gym, and at this point the park, and the treadmill in our basement and our free weights seem the most appealing.

Ditto voice2.

A YMCA or equitable (all-inclusive) gym would have a monopoly in this town.

Yeah and the blacks will monopolize the basketball courts and refuse to let whites play. I've been a member of three YMCAs in the Atlanta area and it's standard behavior. Plus it will turn into a thug hangout where you need a gun for protection just to walk across the parking lot. We don't need that here in Cartersville.

White, being a previous member of two different YMCAs, I have never had that issue, and I play basketball with white skin. Are you sure your perspective is not skewed by other issues?
