it's prolly a lot to do with more tvs being flatscreens and not as sturdy as regular box tvs. im surprised this article seems to overlook that

I'm confused -- was it on a TV cart or a microwave oven cart (as previously reported)? Either way, it's a terrible accident, but there's a reason these things come with directions, warning labels, etc.

FYI...a 25" Flat screen TV does not weigh 75 lbs...It had to be a big tube. And Tube TV's are so much more front heavy. Probably 75% of the weight of a tube TV is front loaded. Flat screens have nothing to do with this.

We have a 4 year old and a 1 year old and 3 months ago I had a 120 lb tube tv in an armoir and saw it bending the wood it was sitting on so I told my wife I was getting rid of it. Even though it cost me some $$$ to replace it, I replaced it with a flat screen that weighs less than half as much. It sits way in the back of the armoir and there is no chance of the kids getting to it, or it flipping out on its own.

They also weigh 1/4 of what a tube TV weighs and can be pushed further back to avoid tipping due to them being FLAT. Also, most if not all are so thin that a remote control can not be placed on top unlike tube TV's. This had to be a heavy TV on a cart not rated for the weight.

Also, when set up on the weighted stands that come with a flat screen TV, the center of gravity of Flat Screens is much lower than a tube TV, so please think about what you are saying before panicing everyone.

I DON'T feel bad. Most adults that have a TV in the house survived thier childhood without it being a problem before, and with light-weight flat TV's it's definitly not a problem now.

Sounds like if a tv can actually fall and kill a child, then somebody messed up.

Love how the grieving family took the opportunity to get their faces in the newspaper. Hope you're enjoying your 15 minutes of fame! Personally, if it were me (not that it would be, because I'm not stupid enough to put a 75 lb. TV on a microwave cart), I'd be a little to upset that my kid died to pose for a Newsday picture. Typical LI trash.

This story gave me chills, That poor little angel, this was something that was an accident it was noones fault. Children get curious and i do believe the family when they said there house was child proof. I have 3 children and when they were that young they tried to get in everything. I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to your family.
