Nassau would ban painted guns -- Weaponry, Jones Beach, Nassau ...

There have been no plans announced to launch a Nassau County "Nautical Mile Marine Green," " Jones Beach Camouflage" or " Baldwin Blue." But local Nassau officials, led by Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi, ...

What a waste these should have never been made in the first place. Brilliant idea..... bad enough the fake guns look real..... lets make REAL guns that look fake. What were you waiting for to ban them .....the first toddler to shoot himself in the face thinking it was a toy??

how can you "outlaw" painted guns, when you can't even stop the illegal guns from being on the street......give me a break.
all guns should be OUTLAWED from public streets and venues, except for law enforcement and privately owned personal guns (which should be keep at home, locked up and taken out for recreational use only).

Who cares what color a gun is, point one at a cop, and the cop does what he is trained to do, toy or not, to bad for the idiot with the painted gun. Another waist of legislators time in a stupid law on baning painted guns, Treat all guns equally, from the big 44 mags to the peeWee water pistol, Aim and be prepared to die.

To me it is common sense. I as a Police Officer if confronted with a gun whether it be black or blue my response will be the same. This is a very simple concept, DON'T POINT ANYTHING THAT LOOKS LIKE A GUN AT A POLICE OFFICER! There is NO need for this proposed law.

Can't wait for Nassau County's "pistol licensing authority" to finally be put out of business by the Second Amendment.

$200 PLUS fingerprinting fees to exercise your Constitutionally protected rights? Then you add in the fact that you have to get sworn statements from at least three of your neighbors attesting to the fact that you are not a criminal or insane (so much for a right to privacy.) THEN, the "licensing authority" gets to arbitrarily decide if you are "deserving" of your right to own a pistol after 6-plus months of background investigations. It is a scam designed to deny people their rights and based on how things seem to be going with the Heller case before the Supreme Court, Nassau County will have to figure out some other way of infringing upon the rights of law abiding citizens.

Also, as for the so-called "painted pistols" - does Suozzi or the NCPD actually believe that a criminal who is willing to use a weapon in a crime will be deterred by any such law? As a prior poster pointed out, if someone so much as points a super soaker at a Nassau County cop there is already a significant chance they are going to shoot anyway.

Also, Lauer has been selling "colored" rifles and pistols for years (and yes they do have legitimate uses) may I ask a simple question, how many have EVER been used in a crime?

Superfluous, since for all practical purposes, there is a ban on personal possession of handguns in Nassau County already, painted or otherwise.

If you are an upstanding, law abiding citizen, with no criminal record, not even a parking ticket, and an ex-Marine, you will be denied for the simple reason: "You don't need one."

Of course, it will take a team of detectives and police interviewers a year to make that determination, after interviewing all of your references, sometimes more than once.

In liberated states, that advice would be "don't threaten someone with a gun, or something that looks like a gun, or you may not live to regret it."

No it won't. It will stay exactly where you left it, presumably in a safe. It won't hurt anyone.

Once Again...Suozzi is OFF BASE...If anyone pulls out a gun, be it red, green, Yellow, Black, or Blue, they better be prepared to get SHOT AT. Weather its by a Police Officer, or a Legal Gun Carrying Nassau County Resident. If the criminals want to make the gun more visible...Im all for it.
If Tom Suozzi thinks that another law will stop the criminals from breaking the law, and only use a LEGAL COLOR GUN to commit crimes...He really needs to go home and look in the mirror and ask himself if he knows what is going on in the County. These B.S. Laws just keep hurting the people who pay attention to them.
If the Judges and DA Rice would put the criminals in Jail where they belong...we wouldnt have to worry about the color of the gun used to commit the crime.

Great idea! Does this mean Nassau County will insure my safety by the police? The next time I'm confroned at Green Acres by some scumbag with a pistol, I'll say "Gee you have an illegal gun, that not fair and its illegal"!

how about we restore all of the civil rights as defined in the Constituion and allow law abideing citizens to defend themselves?

After all gun control has worked so well in Newark, Camdem, West Orange, Cleveland, Detroit, Washington DC,New Orleans. Maybe we should look at the real root cause of gun violence, by performing a real study on the people weho cmmit these gun crimes.

I don't see people in RVC, Belmore, Garden City, Lynbrook, Oceanside, isalnd Park commiting Gun Crimes. GET THE POINT!

I agree 100%. By the way, what is your stance and that of your fellow officers of a legal handgun owner carrying if he or she has a permit for hunting and target shooting? If I carried concealed, went to a store, and had to use the weapon in self defense, what would the outcome be? I have a permit now for about 25 years and carried when I first got it because it was new to me and I haven't bothered since. With crime being the way it is now, I've been thinking about it again for protection. What's your off the record opinion?

I hate to say it but... Mike Bloomberg, Tom Suossi & Stve Levy haven't a clue! Lauer Custom Weaponry were marketing and selling their firearm refinishing systems in bright, fluoresent colors for more tham 3 years. Many of Nassau /Suffolk Licensed Gunsmiths have been performing the refinish service for hundreds of individuals and pistol lcensees for several years.
The most common refinish is on the Colt/Bushmaster/Rock River/DPMS/LWRC .223 caliber semi-auto rifles. Refinish jobs run the whole color spectrum from urban grey/blue camo to USMC Multi-Cam. Real-Tree trademarked Woodland Camo is even a standard factory color for thousands of semi-auto and pump-action shotguns used during Wetland bird season right here on Long Island. All Mike Bloomberg has to do is stop in up at the NYPD Firearms Training Section, Rodman's Neck, and he will see most of his own instructors with personal pistold & rifles that have been refinished is some very innovative color combinations. Nassau's Tom Suossi better take alook at his Bureau of Special Operations Unit's .308 Springfield M1A Semi-Auto Rifles. They are Woodland camo finished right up to their Aimpoit Red Dot sight. Suffolk's Steve Levy's Pistol License Section, embroiled in it's own problems with fedreal special agents, has registered hundreds of non-standard colored handguns for several years. Desert Tan, Ranger Green, Urban Gray have been real popular with Suffolk Pistol Licensees. Even his Firearms Training Section walk around with "Red" guns that have been refinished with just such a kit. Simunitions-Paint Cartridge Training handguns produced and sold by the world's biggest police handgun supplier are "Blue" and all they shoot are paint balls.
Just google for the Glock factory website and you'll see a dozen different colors being offered. The US Border Patrol carry pistols in contrasting colors so that if dropped in the soft sand of our southern border, they can easily be found. The Marines, Army, Air Force and Navy, as well as the US Coast Guard, all have issued specially colored small arms to the troops. The finishes are extreamly durable, extend the service live of the firearm, reduces maintanance costs and enhances servicability in harsh environments,
FBI Special Agents, ICE Agents, Federal Protection Service, IRS-CID, Diplomatic Security Service, BATFE and US Coast Guard Special Agents are all currenly carrying firearms that have been treated with similar finishes and they did it for the very same reasons that legal, licensed pistol permit holders have; to protect and enhance the servicability as well as the visability of their firearms.
This is a non-issue that is being used to further restrict gun ownership here in New York where the 2nd ammendment is not written into the state constitution. As Mike Bloomberg and the rest would rather prohibit what is currently a privilage in NYS.
Bad guys will still walk into Wal-Mart and buy a can of Krylon in Fluoresent Pink for $2.99. They will not however drop $199 or more to buy a Lauer Custom Weaponry "Bloomberg Collection" Refinish Kit.
Lauer didn;t all his kit the "Suossi Collection or the "Levy Collection", but I wouldn't blame him if he did.
Last Point: and I hate to do this but.. the number of incidents involving NYPD officers and civilians without any handguns (currently the Bell event), a handgun wasn't even present, yet someone was shot.
I think Mayor Mike needs to clean out his Firearms Section and allow Special Operations Division to run it as they see fit. The current state of affairs at their range is just a continuation of Old Guard mentality.
This is just Bloomberg's way of distracting from the department's internal problems. Even with NYC citizens getting shot the NYPD hit percentage is still below 6%

As you are probably aware, the police are under no legal obligation to provide anyone with protection. This follows a suit in Colorado where a relative of someone killed by a criminal sued the PD for not responding.

I have respect for most cops and the job they do. But they cannot be everywhere instantly and people have a Constitutional and moral right to self defense. Too bad NY doesn't agree.
