Man Convicted Of 3 Murders May Face Death Sentence

An aspiring gang member was convicted Tuesday of murdering two people at a Montebello warehouse and killing a prospective witness against him a week later as she begged for her life in a South Gate alley.

The Los Angeles Superior Court jury is due back in court Wednesday afternoon for the start of the trial's penalty phase, in which they will be asked to recommend whether 22-year-old Juan Jose Chavez should be sentenced to death or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The panel found Chavez guilty of first-degree murder for the shooting deaths of Lynda McGeisey and Abdon Sandoval on May 31, 2004, and Risa Bejarano, who was slain six days later. Read more
