Built in the 1960s like many other great CA homes. What happened to make Scottsdale in Carson go downhill fast?

Even back in the 1980s it was bad. Why??? I heard that shoddy construction made the units impossible to sell, but the units are still standing.

What is the truth?

Many years ago the establishment was purchased by a predominately Black church, was used to house the lower income families. The reason why it started going bad in the early 80s was lack of policeing, and that other low income families that were not a part of the church who had previously owned scottsdale. Along with some of these families and lack of police prescence small gangs and easy drug sales increased since there was very little policing. Word catches wind fast and other gangs began using scottsdale as the primary "drug connection hang out."
Among other problems a piru " Blood" gang began developing at an unknown date , and claimed the sales as thier turf. Opposing gangs and competing drug dealers began fueding and now it remains a popular problem all throughout carson.(My family has lived nearby this place for 75 years. Hope that info helped.)

I'm an original homeowner and the housing was built in 1963 it was a beautiful community predominately white until the Watts Riots. IDK if the previous comment of the church buying units is correct, or not but the corruption within the homeowners association is what has brought Scottsdale down to its current state. Each homeowners pays $240 per month to the homeowners association; there are 600 units, you do that match. This money is suppose to be used for the beautification of the properties but the money disappears every month and the association claims there are no funds to fix anything which has caused it to become run down and ugly. The association contracts security and towing to harass the homeowners which adds to the frustration and anger; yes it is zest pool of drugs and crime but it's also about corruption and politics. The city of Carson doesn't know how to deal with it. I personally would like for the State to come in a claim immenement domain and take it off my hands. I don't live there anymore but family members do and it's not safe.

Long story short! Everything you see on tv happens In da dale! Dope, gangsta, prostitution, ckurupt politicken, crooked cops, training ground for cops, in one year they gave out 383 years in prison time to residents of Scottsdale alone some guilty and some innocent but it's just awfully wrong can't even walk your pets, talk to your neighbors or anything that normal people do without being harrast by the cops or the local gangs, in all reality it sucks that no one cares about the Scottsdale estates!!!! God bless every living soul in da dale. Ii will keep you all in prayer and pray that change will come and I live to see it!! I'm 79 years old. Peace to all.

yes, these townhomes were built in 1963. there was no black church that ever owned this property. this property of 634 units has been owned by a white man that had a vision to build townhomes that were made arizona style. we moved in scottsdale in 1974 and it was predominantly white with samoans and blacks. then the samoans and blacks began to feud and the samoans moved out and moved to the east side of carson. in the 80's the koreans became predominant in scottsdale, then they moved out. now it's the hispanics, the blacks and folks that are just stuck, because they are too old to move and relocate or cant afford to move out because the sale of these homes are so darn cheap. now we have investors coming into scottsdale and buying homes, flipping them and renting them out to section 8 people. we also have investors buying homes in scottsdales and turning them into drug rehabilitations homes or what is known as "half-way houses". so now we have a bunch of weirdos and addicts walking around. yes, there is high crime rate in scottsdale. this used to be a place where you could play in the park, enjoy the pool in the summer and have fun at the club house with an occasional movie night. now the pool has been filled with dirt, because they were too cheap to fix the pool. they are now charging us $260.00 hoa fees. the association wanted to increase our fees from $240.00 to $350.00 at one time, but they found out they could not do that by law. most homes are infested with roachs and rodents. there are stray cats and dogs everywhere. the security team and the towing service and working together to tow anyone's car who does not have a pass during the day and or night. the security team gets a kick back on every car that can possibly be towed out of scottsdale. there have been many angry cases of homeowners getting their car towed away when parked in the alley to clean their garage or bring in their groceries. it's pathetic in scottsdale townhomes. there is no hope and no improvement. every board member that we have ever had, has stolen funds from the hoa fees without being arrested, convicted or reprimanded. it's a jungle in scottsdale.

Original owner, still live here. Carson4life is 100% correct. I've had direct dealings with the association and they are all thieves, it hasnt stopped, it still continues today. The biggest thief of all was that Syd B. She needs to be behind bars for the millions she stole from every homeowner. Our home and many others have not been painted or had the roof replaced since the 1970's and we can't do it ourselves or contract to have it done because we are not allowed to touch the outside of the homes. Scottsdalw Security along with the Carson Sheriffs believe they are above the law. The towing company does give kickbacks not only to security but also the townhouse office workers who allow them to come in to tow. Bottom line, Scottsdale's problems do not arise from the residents, it arises from the homeowners association who steal the funds instead of using it for the beautification of Scottsdale. What the homeowners need to do is contract an honest attorney who will agree to wait until the case settles and sue the homeowners association for lack of duty of care. They need to contact the health department to inspect every single unit not only for bugs and rodents but the plumbing that is connected to the adjoining townhouse because when one is backed up they both are and it brings it all back up into your bathroom and kitchen which is a health hazard. The association lack of duty of care is also negligent for not maintaining the premises in order to keep the value of the homes competitive, by not doing so each homeowner should sue because the value of their homes are down not by their own doing but by the associations lack of doing. Who owns the property that Scottsdale sits on now? Is the original owner still alive? It was never a church. Sue the owner or his heirs. Scottsdale owners are people, humans, not animals but we are treated worse than by our association who won't even talk to us, the security who just want to F us over and the Sheriffs who just want someone to beat on.

I lived on 10 Cactus lane in the 70s. Workmanship wasn't shoddy, the pools were open in the summer. Same thing happened further south Reagan fueled his illegal Contra war by running crack through the black community and it all went to hell. I and others watched sad and horrified as it melted away.
