Unruly front yard raises red flag in Carson

Cindy Shuler was told to clean up her front yard by the city of Carson because, "It's not in harmony with the rest of the neighborhood," said Ken McKay, head of the city's public safety department.

Another drama in Carson... Leave the woman alone or take her to court. Leave the flags up. If they are tainted, she needs to replace them.
Down every street or block in Carson there is a home or neighbors that stands out with complaints.

I don't feel she should have to take her flags or lights down if she does not want. As for the yard if it's messy or causing rodents then thats another story. But if she is being cited for a "dirty yard" then they need to drive all over carson and take their citation book out. Anything can be a sore eye to someone else. The color of their house, the size the landscape anything. And it's not like she lives in a gated community or pays dues or something like that. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! That is her property.

People like to take pride in their yard. We live in a community where you do get cited for weeds and things that should not be out there. No junk car's or no oil on your driveway. We take very good care of our yard here in coral canyon.But make it look nice so no one will complaint about it. Call the police on the person who has the loud exhaust and get the address and license number. We do that here and it's taken care of.

The city of carson's code enforcement is like their little nazi troopers patroling the city. They harrassed my 80 + year old neighbor because her gutters weren't painted correctly. No offer to help or anything.... they just are all over the lamest stuff. They dont make mention that the city hall has paint missing and all the over grown empty plots throughout the city that look horrible..... the city just needs money because they are too stupid to get it anywhere else....so lets pick on the poor people who live here

If there is no health or safety issue, Let the lady fly our flags. Yes ! its proper to furl the flag at night, but on the other-hand, did not Francis Scott Keys write " Rockets red glare bombs bursting in air, gave truth through the NIGHT, that our Flag was still there " Yes our flag flew at night by the most patriotic of all. A withered, tattered flag means a lot more, than a brand new one. The yard is very unsightly! As a neighbor, I can honestly say, "All the neighbors don't love her yard....we just don't say anything to Cindy. We just always pass by and shake our head and mumble and grumble." Although Cindy has her quirks, she does take care of the neighborhood and I thank her. Law enforcement and the City should focus on the drug and gang activity in our neighborhood. I'm scared for my kids and the children of the neighborhood.

She should be an example to all the participants in the neighborhood watch programs.

However some Block Captains feel that they are exempt from compliance because they work closely with law enforcement. If she were in compliance, the City can hopefully focus their attention on other matters.

You should note that code enforcement officers do not perform the functions of the Sheriff’s department.

btw, you should be extremely concerned for your children's safety because this City has serious crime problems that are getting worse!!! We all should be scared!!!

People are now referring to Carson as a “Ghetto”, the “Hood”! Carson use to have a decent reputation but now we are considered part of South Central and or South Compton..........

Maybe instead of spending money on cars and gas for the code enforcement people, the city should refocus the money on some of the mounting debt or other projects that might make the city better instead of harrassing its residents
