Yeah i would agree to that, if you can keep the smoke in one room with a ventilation system so the smoke is in that one area and not traveling all around the restaurant. You have to understand I am not against people that smoke, I mean I personally do not see why people do it, but that is none of my business, but what is my business and everyone else's, is our health. My wife is an asthmatic and smoke from a cigarette is one of her number one triggers, and no offense to you TmE but I would sue the crap out of the person who smoked near my wife in a restaurant that could cause her to die.

I agree having a smoking and non-smoking area in the same open area is redundant and silly. I have been places that had ventilation systems designed to handle this where if you did have a separate room there was no smoke escaping to other areas. Restaurant owners should have this option available to them if they want to fork over that much money. This is a better option for restaurants and people as the smokers will then stay in their own ventilated area and will not be standing outside on the sidewalk so people entering will not have to walk through a cloud of smoke to enter the restaurant.

That is why just flat out bans bother me so much as these options such as ventilation are unavailable and more poeple are outside in the way. I have relatives that have asthma and my elementary school daughter had one of her best friends die from it so I understand. I myself am severely allergic to some of the ingredients in some perfumes people drown themselves in and these ventilation systems would help that also! I don't like smoke and it would help to have it all in one area instead of all over the place!

Well yeah, These places that ask you smoking or non-smoking? then all it means is you sit on the other side of the room, that is the ones that are ridiculous. Like I says smoke travels.

Exactly. The laws need to be changed to make smoking "sections" into smoking "rooms" where the doors are shut and the smoke is not allowed to enter the air of the non-smokers.

Reastraunt and bar owners should have the right to choose, what kind of business they would like to see. Smokers with nonsmokers that don;t care, or smoke free. This should not be a govt regulation. If you don't like the smoke, Don;t go there. the Owner of the establishment has the right to choose what he will offer to accomodate people. I smoke, and i am considerate enough to not toss my butts on the ground, or out the windows, i ask other KNOWN non smokers if its ok if i smoke and if not i move. I feel i am giving as much courtesy as i should give to non smokers. Having the GOVT take it a step further is ridiculous. If you want gov't controlled everything to make people happy, MOVE TO CHINA, even beter how about North Korea. they do reall well with the GOVT controlling everything.

If they mark that clearly on their advertisements and front doors then yeah your right. But people need to be able to go out to a restaurant and be able to eat with out breathing someone else's filthy smoke in. Meaning the places that have non-smoking and smoking areas, or as I said earlier have an enclosed ventilated room set a side just for smokers where the smoke can not make it into the general area where non smokers are seated. I think though it is funny, you smokers have all day to smoke as many cigarettes as you want, and you can't give them up for an hour or so, just to eat.

The interesting thing about many of these smoking situations is that the establishment in question allowed smoking. Then, the nonsmoking crowd goes there and makes the determination that it would be a good place if you couldn't smoke in there. So while many here are willing to say that you cannot smoke in a nonsmoking establishment, so you shouldn't go there. These people refused to give the same considerations to others that were smoking there first.

I don't smoke and I don't think it's a big deal, but then, I don't hunt either, but I have no problem with hunters.

Most of the people that raised hell about this had the option not to go into a smoking establishment, but they had to complain until they got their way. No that the situation has changed, it's "you can't come in here if you smoke now."

I've seen people giving others dirty looks in bars because they went into a smoking allowed bar and then whined about the smoking. I would rather put up with smoking than the whining going on here.

In Ohio where I recently moved from, There was a state referendum to ban smoking in all public places. Before the election, the bars, bowling alleys, etc. where saying they would lose most of there business and have to close. The referendum passed. A year later the bars and were enjoying double digit growth because the people that wouldn't go to a smoking establishment where now going. Just my 2 cents!

Having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing section in a swimming pool!

Well, here we are three years later and still no ban on smoking in your car or home. You think this poster was exagerating a wee bit?
