Again a waist of legislative time waited on an issue that the Federal government has a strong interest. If the feds refuse to deport some of these people that meet the guidelines for immigration reform Texas are been torn apart from this bill. If Obama takes this action and he will, I am sure that he will have a second term in office.
This is now opening the eyes of the good White people that care about humans. Remember when the Blacks were torn apart from families and segregated one hundred and twenty years ago, well history surly repeats itself. Some White people still hate Blacks with a passion and are very hateful. Secure the border and reform these people, and concentrate on JOBS!

The Feds have chosen to be deaf, dumb and stupid regarding border security and immigration.

Texans cannot wait for the Feds to wake up, we need to depend on Texas.

When encountering criminals, deal with them...

Might be pretty, might be ugly, might be pretty ugly..

Cowering in indecision is not a Texan way!

Children who happen to be illegal aliens, now excelling in their studies should make excellent students back at home, in their native countries.

"A key Republican figure in the state's immigration debate says he has concerns about what the pending "sanctuary cities" bill means for students who were brought to the country illegally as children and who are now excelling in their studies."

The solution is simple: punch their TS card and deport them along with their parents. That way, ICE won't be accused of "separating families."

Leave it to a Republican to try to throw a monkey wrench into a good law. If they can dilute the not-so-smart, so-called "conservatives," the liberals can defeat the law. No wonder this country is so screwed up.

There more I see how our State officials are manipulating this SB9 bills, the more I think they only put them out there not to get them pass but with full intentions on defeating them so they can tell us that if they are re-elected they will get it pass next time around.

The bill only means that those who are going to be arrested and detained as suspects are the ones that can be checked. There are safeguards in the system to protect the victim as there is in the federal law that protects the victims. If these students are bright and well on the way to graduation and advancement they can always apply to the INS for citizenship. However it means that they are going to have to give up their parents as scape goats.

Clean nose, no record, they get bypassed. Bad record no matter what their grades, introduction to INS the hard way.

Truly it's the height of insanity to pass laws which prevent law enforcement to not be able to question the legal status of suspects. The only obvious reason for such laws would be to impede the enforcement of existing immigration laws.

There is no doubt the illegal status students knew at some point in their life they were not born in the USA. They skillfully act out the fact they were ignorant of the situation. My recommendation is they should return to their country of origin and rebuild their country through the education they received in the USA. However, if bleeding heart democrats do not want to return them, then those students should stand at the back of the line like the rest of the honest immigrants trying to get in the right way.

This is not that simple. Imagine if YOU had been taken into another country illegally as a child then forced to return to a country you've never lived in. Think about it. How easy would it be for you? Illegal children grew up here because of their parent's choices not their own. I'm not condoning illegal immigration, just saying the solution is not that simple because we're dealing with people.

As a Federal law enforcement officer, I resent your remarks. What do you think that we do, use a dartboard to determine who is deported and who is not? WE ENFORCE ONLY THE LAWS THAT YOU ALLOW US TO ENFORCE. You the public through your elected legislators are responsible for writing and amending the immigration law that we enforce. You can't imagine how many times deportation cases are killed by public opinon. When we start to crack down on TOURIST VISA ABUSE by the hundreds of non-immigrant visa holders that cross daily to go "shopping", visit "walmart" or see their sick "relatives" the business community, the citizens, complain that we are profiling and harrasing Hispanics. For every illegal who enters the country, we have 10 foreigners that enter everyday with valid entry documents and violate the spirit of the law by working or overstaying. If you want to help me, than write immigration law that has teeth. Than DEMAND accountability from your eleced officials. As an American Federal Lawman I work for the citizens of this great country. Don't blame me because you don't have the moral courage to make you elected officials accountable to you.

Thank you for telling it the way it is. As a fellow (former) law enforcement officer, I can attest to the fact the citizenry is at fault. First, they want the laws enforced. Once this is initiated, the citizens do a 180 and cry foul. It is hard to judge what people want. In your case, you are to enforce the law, just don't catch "mi tia" or "primo" or other relative. I believe it is called "hypocrisy".

Don't get righteous with me, a border citizen who has become a foot soldier in this border insecurity crap.
As a victim of the wimpy local enforcement I've been forced to do your job and fire up the officials needing Ifixed. Ciro is gone, replaced with Canseco, the elected illegal sympathetic politicians have a foothold. THEY are misguided and misinformed, or corrupt.

I, As a former old world cop, hard core on enforcement, you the fed officers have an up hill battle in the political infested chess pool found here. Only in a very few cases can you count on backup from the citizen world, but it is WE in this battle.

OUR BATTLE is on the horizon, the administration you need to cower to is the one I need to get replaced in 2012.

It's called corruption, the Misinformed are guided by the agenda of the conniving..
The conniving are well connected here and occupy the political offices...

We need to get that corrected.

At least I am refreshed to see there are at least two others in this fight.
