'Bout time .. now let's watch the "magic" of the Carroll County Justice system and see all the charges disappear in time for the New Years Eve blow out...I bet the FPS stops reporting on the DUI's / alcohol related accidents coming from the Vets Club now.

Please be honest... You really think the Vets Club is the cause of all the DUI's and alcohol-related accidents?

I think if you're completely honest, what you'll find out, is the drunk drivers will continue to do so - Vets Club or not. The reason is - the Vets Club isn't the source of most of your problem drinkers in the county.

Again, if you're honest, you'll also learn the county will be a much sadder place, as through the past 67 years, the Vets Club, while also serving as a gathering place for its local members, has done nothing more than help the local community in many different ways. If that isn't something to consider in this season of the year - I'm not sure what is.

I certainly hope the person who complained to the state is really proud, because there will probably be fewer disadvantaged people helped because of all this. Maybe that person will decide to pick up all the slack should the Vets Club no longer be able to assist anyone...

Really???? With all of the ugliness in our world this is the battle someone chose? I'm not a member and I don't frequent the place but I've read about many good things their members have done to help others. Having a few beers & playing bingo...seriously?? If this wasn't so sad it would be funny.

This club was created for Veterans and their families back in the day. These were hard working men who honored the reason of the whole concept of the club. Now, you have folks in and out of there who are not members for dances, who SEE that there is smoking and gambling. DUH, who is in charge of the club? Isn't the bartender a school employee? That's smart too! It's a shame the Civic Club and the Vets Club could not combine somehow, but as long as the Vets is run the way it is now, that will never happen, and that is another loss to our community.

And what about all the one's from the Eagles Club up over the hill. I know for a fact that are just as responsible for DUI's as the Vet's Club is. And for that matter, what about the DUI's coming from the Lounge and the Depot. Just because they may happen to get picked up on Brenner Road or in the vicinty, does not mean they are coming from the Vet's Club.

They go above and beyond to help out in the community, Look at what they are trying to bring back to the county - The New and Improved Vet's Pool. I would like to commend them on this for it will help our returning Veterans.

A law is a law. Just because I volunteer my time/energy/money doesn't mean I should be able to smoke meth in the privacy of my home. You don't get a free pass just because you do good.

The "Vets Club" hasn't been a Veterans organization for decades! It is a social club that claims to be affiliated with Veterans. It's just a drinking, smoking and illegal gambling spot for the locals.

Honestly, from their multi-million dollar pool renovation (a pipe dream to benefit who?) to the tenth anniversary of "9/11" (shameful excuse for a multi-day drinking party - stay classy vets club), all of the county's Veterans should be mad that they do these things in their name!

There are many legitimate Veterans organizations in this county. The American Legions, the VFWs - they really help Veterans, donate and volunteer in the community (they just don't insist on getting credit for every little thing that they do.

You should ask our county's DAV how much money that was raised to buy a new van to transport Veterans to the local VA hospital. I hear from my people in the courthouse, it wasn't even enough to pay for one $14,000 van (yeah - keep supporting the vets club).

I am new to posting but feel that my opinion is as equal to the previous one, since veterans have and still fight for freedom. First, the Carroll County Veteran's Club, Inc. was founded in 1945 as a private social corpiration. I thought that was well known and no surprise. There is an apostrophe in their name because it shows ownership, not plural, with no apostrophe. We should be proud of the men who initially purchased the property and used their own hands and finances to make a nice place that they would own and be able to socialize in. When they finished all of that they decided to put their efforts into a memorial for their peers, who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and build the "Vet's Pool" on public property. Within that complex generations of children learned to swim. Public scholarships have gone out to many students for numerous years. It is also common knowledge that property has been used for ball teams for many years.

These owners of a corporation have never needed public assistance to survive, but have been able to hold on to their private irganization for 67 years. Not many company's can say that. Now unlike others, I am not going to criticize Veteran oriented groups, because all are amazing! If their charters are resesrched you will find out their purpose also, and it is social. The CCVC howver is managed locally and all support has been for their family & friends in this community. Nationally chartered clubs must follow a chair of command and follow national bylaws, including asset decisions.

The CCVC has also owned 60 acres of land and paid property taxes all of these years, while many people have had reunions and party rentals to enjoy the beauty. Why such harsh thoyghts and words towards men and women who took an oath to protect us? Is there different classes of USAF Veterans, based upon where they decide to socialize? And if they are attempting to reopen a Veterans Memorial for the community and to honor our fallen, why are you so offended? I, think it is commendable.

If my memory serves me correctly, some people called the vets pool a pipedream in 1969, too. It still saddens me at the mean and negative attitudes of a few locals. Did you say your people at the courthouse? Don't you have other things to do besides judge people who have a track record of accomplishing goals for the community? After all, the veterans obviously believe in pipedreams since they was willing to die for all of us to have the American dream.
