Sounds as if they need to dismantle the whole board and start fresh with new blood.

I whole heartedly agree with Notorious! For some misguided reason the airport authority seems to be more focused on developing a county asset to drive economic growth than subsidizing the operating expenses of private business entities. I read in a different article that the airport restaurant operator is paying a full $400/month for the use of the commercial restaurant facility. That's nearly half as much as you'd expect to pay to rent a similarly sized house in Carrollton. It's completely unreasonable for the board to expect tenants to pull their own weight. It's equally absurd for the board to expect small business owners to evolve their business models and keep pace with inflation - especially amid slow economic times like an oil boom.
It would be different if a recent influx of oil workers had suddenly and drastically increased the demand for hospitality services in Carroll County. The board is completely out of line asking its tenants to mow their own grass, shovel their own snow and pay fair market value for the facilities they rent. They should be ashamed of themselves.
I think the commissioners should replace the current board with like-minded people who will maintain the status quo. There's no reason in the world for the airport's tenants to cover their own expenses when the tax payers are perfectly capable of footing the bill.
A big thank you to the FPS for providing fair, balanced, and ethical reporting on this issue!!
Well Done - Keep up the good work!!

I agree with Facetious Capitulator! It's good to have a groundskeeper who undermines the boards authority, bad talks the airport and owns the restaurant. No conflicts of interest here.
He can use the money he makes to help pay that $400.00 rent that's obviously way more than they can afford. Or maybe he can use the money to buy more recording surveillance equipment to illegally record conversations in the restaurant. Either way, it's win win!

'Totally Amazed' I'm honestly not surprised that you would try to spread lies about this. The groundskeeper doesn't own the restaurant, and the video/audio surveillance system is only at the counter, a point repeatedly made at the airport meeting Monday. I'm curious about how the airport restaurants video security differs from say Mcdonald's, Wal-mart, major airport hubs or any other major business that employs video/audio surveillance system to protect themselves from being ripped off or protect people, but using the logic of Totally Amazed that's illegal to, I suppose.

The TRUTH will eventually all come out. Mr. Facetious Capitulator obviously you have don't have the facts or you wouldn't be blowing your horn about something you don't fully understand. By your sarcasm it is plainly clear you are not a business person. You have no clue as you are not at the business everyday numerous hours to see what weight that the business carry's when the so called board that is to manage the Airport is not there. Put yourself in a business persons shoes and then you may understand but then again by the impression you give, you must be a small minded person. I 'm sure it would be in the best interest for the commissioners not to have people like you on the board. Totally Amazed wow are you at the Airport daily to actually hear these individuals talking bad about the airport and undermining the board? Do you know how much the groundskeeper makes? I seriously doubt you know all the facts either. And maybe you should read the laws of the Ohio Revised Code about audio/ video/recording.

What more do we need to question the honesty and integrity of this counties airport board members then a manager/board member (a position questioned as to its allowance in the airport board rules, allowing you to be both on the board and manager) trying to Fire the groundkeeper with going through the proper channels, and then having the rest of the board unable to give a straight answer as to why it was done, or who, actually has the ability to do so. At the meeting a majority of the board seemed to never fully answer inquiries asked by the public or went around the question all together. If there was honesty on the board why not just give a straight answer to the question, instead of making it sound like your dishonest by sidestepping questions or ignoring them. The board also stated multiple times they DO NOT take compensation. but in a past meeting they voted that the board members get there aircraft fuel at cost (a fact backed up by past meeting minutes), which to most people with sense, is a FORM OF COMPENSATION, making statements about being uncompensated false. At the end of the April 28th meeting they claimed, when asked if they had given a past manager money for time on the board, they denied they did and said it never happened, to which a member of the public read straight from past meeting minutes, where they did give money and that event did in fact happen. Are these the type of people that we really need representing Carrollton or Carol County Airport.
