these dogs are so miss understood.there very affectionate animals.it depends on what kind of hands they fall in.its not there fault that ppl started useing them to fight.they were bred back in 1800's for the use of holdig down large bulls to be slaughtered.they were also bred for farm work.they are very smart creatures.I just wish there was some way to save there name.ppl profile against them to much.you cant even find a decent place to live if you got any,i kn.ive seen little mixed muts bite someone before one of mine would.yes they are teratorial but thats only instinc.any animal in there right mind will do anything to protect its family.ad i tell u what.i got three pits and you beeter kn for sure that when my kids are outdside aint oone going to just walk up to them, but thats what there suppose to do is protect.that dt make them mean or aggressive...

they were bred to hunt wild pigs. I raise wolves, now that is something everyone should get a chance to enjoy. Beautiful animals.

They were raised to kill. I have worked in a vet office for over twenty years. These dogs can be very sweet but they have no problem turning on the people that take care of them or attacking someone else if they think there is danger. I don't care how beautiful they are, the majority of pit bulls around here were bought because the owner thinks it makes them look tough. If I had a dollar for every pit bull that ends up at the pound or abandoned from moronic owners, I would be a millionaire. You can have a wonderful pet without sticking with one breed. If people want pets so bad they can go to the shelter and buy mutts who aren't capable of ripping out their childs throat instead of paying $500 for a sick dog from a nasty trailer puppy mill operation. Buying dogs that were bred to kill doesn't make anyone look badass, it just makes you look uneducated and redneck.

they are more tha that.and no they were ot raised to kill.i read up on pitbulls.my old man done his senior exit on pitbulls.yes some of them can turn on you quick.but i have two mutts and my lil one will bite b4 any of my pits will..i have to keep my mutts on a leash at all times bc hes always trying to bite someone.so you all are wrong.yes alot of ppl think it makes them look tough but thats not why we got them.we got them to save them from being put down.no animal deserves to be treated like that..my kids play by my dogs all the time.ad the only thig they have to worry about is being licked to death.they are beautiful animals.all gods creatures are beautiful.and for those who mistreat them are going to hell.

American pit bull terrierMain article: American Pit Bull Terrier

American pit bull terrierThe American pit bull terrier is the product of interbreeding between terriers and a breed of bulldogs to produce a dog that combined the gameness of the terrier with the strength and athleticism of the bulldog.[10] These dogs were initially bred in England, Ireland, and Scotland, and arrived in the United States with immigrants from these countries. In the United States, these dogs were used as catch dogs for semi-wild cattle and hogs, to hunt, to drive livestock, and as family companions;[10] however, some were selectively bred for their fighting prowess,[11] and starting in the early 20th century, they began to replace the bull terrier as the "dog of choice" for dog fighting in the United States.[12][13]

Thats great that you have workd in a vet office for 20 yrs, are you a vet? However that does not make you an expert in animal breeds and pit bulls? Everyone has their own opinion of pits, and just because a dog is a pit bull DOES NOT mean their going to attack their owner or anyone else. Dogs are like humans, they will act in the manner in which they were raised.I have a pit and she is a VERY well mannered dog and not aggressive what so ever to humans or other dogs, she was adopted from a pound three years ago. Just because someone owns a pit does not mean they are trying to look badass, and as far as your comment about pit owners looking like an uneducated redneck is bullcrap, I am a Advanced Registered Nurse Practioner so am I a uneducated redneck because I own a pit?

These dogs do not choose to fight, they are made to fight, these dogs are abused and mistreated by their owners. All animals are innocent and never ask to be placed in a cruel and abusive home. These pits have a bad name because of HUMANS, you can fight any dog if you train them to.

the only reason a dog not just a pit would turn in you is if you mistreat them.guarantee you if a pit/dog turns on it's owner they deserved it.I own a pit and a chihuahua my chihuahua is more snappy and protective than my pit.bad ppl gave pits bad names for fighting them.guess what dumbasses when you fight them your gonna make them mean!

brittany i agree 100% mistreat a dog it gets scared back it in a corner it will come out and get you.beating or fighting a dog is cruel and inhumane.pit bulls/any dog that has been beaten or starved can and will be mean.and those pets can't be saved if taken away they are put to sleep.

Pit Bulls are given a bad rap. I have had 2 myself and they never have turned. I know someone that pulls them from the shelter to try and save them and all the rescues are full because of the ignorant people that get them and mistreat them. Yes they can be saved even if they were mistreated. Look at Michael Vick's dogs he mistreated. They were placed if possible. I would have a pit in a heartbeat. They aren't bad dogs, they just have a bad name due to HUMAN stupidity!!

Well i will tell you now i have raised pittbulls for 8 years and they are very good dogs and are very family oriented. These idiots that sell these dogs to just who ever just to make a buck are at fault!I have had 1 of my pitts for 10 years and he is the best!!!!He listens to me better then my children do some time...I do believe once they bite someone or something you do have a problem coming on...I will not have that even snarls at someone!!!BUT REMEMBER IT IS NOT THE DOG IT IS THE OWNER just like a parent with a child..

I have a pit bull my self. best dog I've ever owned. And to tell you the truth those little ankle biters are more viscous then my dog. So for those who are poorly educated on this topic(those who like to call them viscous and say thy need to be put down) i would suggest to do some research so you don't look so retarded. Yes pit bulls were bred for fighting but that was band years ago. It is NOT the dogs fault if they fight, it is the owners.
and for the person that said they need to be put down, lets put down every one that has gotten into a fight. They are to viscous for this world,

Why do people have to have pit bulls at all? Why not go adopt a dog from the pound that needs a good home instead of putting out money for an inbred, sick dog that could go nuts and kill someone? Why buy a dog at all, when you can get one for free that is loyal and loves you?

I have a 10 month old pit bull that is a big baby. He was given to me from a friend. He has been sent to K9 school and is a very sweet and loving dog. its not the dogs fault that they have a bad name. Its all in the way u treat them. That goes for any animal. Any dog can turn on you if they are mistreated!!!!!!!!
