Ed is one the most outstanding men it has been my honor to know. He will be greatly missed by the whole community. He has served as Principal in the Waterloo District, Superintendent of Smithton and Columbia districts. Both his daughters graduated from WHS.
It has long been his wish to get back to Jersey. He and his wife's family still live in the area. God Bless the Settles family, you will be missed. |

does this mean sum stoodient teacher will cry discr4imination and take my trailer in some tribunal elks court

Figures. He comes in, gets the district all sorts of negative press, spends tens of thousands of dollars fighting the Kalbfleisch family, and then just picks up and moves on. I certainly hope the school board came to their senses and forced this on him for the way he's handled things. He'll be gone, but the taxpayers will be left holding the bag and paying to unsort his mess.
Good riddance regardless. |

We have had some questionable politics in the town over the past few years, but I would say this guy takes the cake. He was in and out in a year and a half. Causes our school district NATIONAL humiliation, thousands and thousands of dollars in wasted legal fees, and is out before the dust settles. Awesome.

You 3 are crazy (Columbia Taxpayer, Happy, and Awesome)! He was the best superintendent you have had and he was equally great in Waterloo. He is a class act and a decent man. He isn't leaving any messes. Let's not forget about the way he handled the sad situations earlier in the year. The school board is behind him 100% and they are not happy to see him go. He is/was the best!

Hmmmm, I would contend you're the crazy one. One who comes in, creates a negative media frenzy, costs the taxpayers thousands upon thousands of dollars, and then leaves in the middle of the mess he's created is NOT "the best". If he is the best, us taxpayers have much to fear in the future.
If this isn't leaving a mess, then what is? |
||||
No mess? You're crazy! If the school board is behind him then why did they release him? Did he ask to be released? If so, what a coward, he creates a huge disaster then runs away, what an honorable thing to do. |

I would just like to say to Columbia, so sad for you to lose Mr. Settles. Would give anything to see him back at Waterloo. He is great and was great at Waterloo, along with Mr. Gardner, Mr. Hefner, and Mrs. Yagge!!!!! Now look what Waterloo has!!!Be happy Columbia you had Mr. Settles. You could have what Waterloo has now. Would love to read your comments then!!!

You obviously do not know Mr. Settles. He is an amazing person, hands down. Supers do not act alone, they work with the board. How do you know "they released him"? It was very sad to hear of the story of the boy/dog. I do not believe that Mr. Settles acted in a manner that was "mean". He's not that way. I'm sure you all do not know the full story, or the full law. Sometimes things seem so black and white to us, standing on the outside looking in, but this world is so full of red tape, it's crazy. What, is he supposed to just break rules and lose his job? I have known Mr. Settles for years. I've sat many a time in his office dicussing my children, while he was at Waterloo. I cannot say this for hardly any other principal or Super we have now. I know his daughters, who are wonderful girls. It saddens me to see so many people JUDGE a person, they really do not know. I wish Mr. Settles and his family all the best in their endeavors. I would love to see him back in Waterloo as well, I think he would do a wonderful job for us, once again, here in Waterloo. |

Spell much lately? |
||||
It was reported in the article that he was released by the columbia school board. My question again, was he forced out or did he asked to be released from his contract? |
||||
You should try some reading comprehension. His entire family is from Jersey and some illness issues have forced the issue. Columbia did NOT force him to leave. You also know nothing of school boards, supts. etc.. But you REALLY know nothing of Ed Settles. Unless you are blaming HIM for the bombing, murders, traffic accidents? The only thing that he was actually involved in was the selfish family putting their childs needs over everyone elses. BTW, hasn't that ended with all parties satisfied? |
||||
Exactly! "concerned" needs to jump off a bridge! |
||||
Ignorance really must be bliss. Have you ever even spoken in person with Mr. Settles? Ever? |
