Another Car Burglary At Cracker Barrel

I was just about to leave Cracker Barrel when the manager told one of the cashiers to call the police. I thought perhaps there had been a wreck, when actually it was another vehicle break-in. I overheard him say that they were supposed to get security cameras set up all around the parking lot, because apparently this has been commonplace for quite some time.

I had a co-worker have her car broken into about a month ago, and the manager told her the same thing. I'm sick and tired of the manager lying about getting the security cameras. Just go ahead and pay for the damn cameras so your customers will feel safe! Maybe they need to have a police unit or two parked there at all times.

It would be logical to do either one, especially if this has been a recurring incident, instead of turning a blind eye to the situation, and showing false concern. Just shell out the couple thousand dollars or so for the security cameras.

Until then, I will no longer patronize that restaurant. If you're not safe while dining at a casual restaurant, you not safe anywhere. God help us that someone breaks into a vehicle parked at either of the two Waffle Houses.

Here is an idea- don't leave any valuables laying about in your car.

I seriously doubt that getting security cameras is up to the manager, that would be a corporate decision. I personally feel that security cameras would merely provide a "false" sense of security anyway. It is not like anyone actually watches them until AFTER something happens.

No one leaves valuables laying around. A broken window still costs money and why does it continue to happen. Just like a serial criminal they know they can get away with whatever they want and no consequences?

Not sure why this would be Cracker Barrell's fault. They are not in the business to watch cars. The fact is that this problem is rampant throught Haralson and Carroll counties. In fact, most counties in our state. In the last week, I know of break-ins at restaurants in Carrollton, ballparks in Carrollton, churches in the area, etc.

It is unfortunate BUT my advice is to protect your valuables and not leave them out for the criminals that rome in parking lots looking.

I agree with what everyone had said about not leaving valuables around. There are signs clearly posted all over the parking lot that tell you to lock your vehicles and hide your valuables. Don't leave them in plain sight, nor make it easy for a thief to take them. I rarely carry my cellphone with me during the weekend, but if I do, I always, ALWAYS take it inside with me, and make sure anything else that could be valuable, is locked away or tucked away out of sight.

The reason they can get away with it in Bremen is the same as Tallapoosa...the cops are all off f------ somebody or sitting on the side of the road on their d-mn cell phones and playing with their smoked sausage. Didn't you know, you can get away with MURDER in these two towns hence, Haralson County!!!

You bring up a good point. Out of all the murders in Bremen over the years, how many were solved? Nothing to be proud of I can assure you.

Bremen parking lot thefts lead to car chase, crash

During a routine drive through the Bremen Cracker Barrel parking lot on Feb. 26, Bremen Police Chief Keith Pesnell and Assistant Chief Capt. Richard Harrison witnessed three men take items from a parked car, which lead to a police chase that ended in a crash.

At around 11:55 a.m., the police officers noticed three men shutting the trunk of a Dodge Charger. One of the men was holding a black bag. The officers circled the lot and noticed the men got into a maroon car, then attempted to leave the lot. The officers, who were in the Chief’s unmarked SUV, pulled in front of the vehicle to stop it. As Harrison exited the SUV, the car drove around the SUV at a high speed and headed east on Price Creek Road. According to the incident report, the maroon car almost hit a vehicle in front of McDonald’s, left the road to pass it, and ran the stop sign at the Highway 27 intersection. The maroon car then ran the red light at the Interstate 20 intersection and proceeded east bound on the highway.

The suspects were apprehended by Douglas County Police at the Fairburn Road Exit when their car crashed into a truck. The driver of the truck was transported to Douglas County Hospital with minor injuries.

The car’s driver, Johnny Laprelle Cook, of 1882 Mason Road, Atlanta, was charged with being a party to a crime. Deante Dewayne Phillips, of 6434 Emerald Pt., College Park, was charged with entering an auto and giving false information to law enforcement. Alexander Vernard Legerald, of 1388 Kimball Road, Atlanta, was charged with being a party to a crime.

Pesnell said the driver will also face reckless driving charges. In addition to the multiple violations that were cited in Bremen, he said during the I-20 chase the car was driving down the wrong side of the highway.

The suspects were transported to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver of the Charger, who is from Smyrna, also witnessed the incident as he was exiting Cracker Barrel. The victim said he tried to get the tag number of the maroon car but could not. Stolen from the vehicle were a black purse containing a check book, driver’s license and credit cards, two cellular phones, a cam-corder and a digital camera. The items were returned to the victim after the suspects’ apprehension.

Harrison said several vehicles have been broken into over the past year or two at Cracker Barrel.

“Probably in the past 6 to 8 months ... we’ve had about 10 to 12 different vehicles broken into at Cracker Barrel,” Harrison said. Area police agencies like those in Villa Rica and Douglasville have told Bremen of similar incidents taking place at parking lots off I-20.

“There’s no evidence linking [these men] to the other incidents. There is a possibility they were involved in the others, but we don’t know that for sure,” he said.

Harrison advises people parking in lots off I-20 to lock their vehicle doors and keep their valuables out of sight. Well I was one of the victims and NO I had nothing in sight for the perps to see as a matter of fact all I have in my car is an umbrella lol! I guess since I drive a nice new car they were hoping to find something! And yes it was locked! When I came out the car alarm was going off and the driver door was open! I fared ok, no car damage and nothing taken. Oh and I was parked in the front too!!!!

I'm glad the perps were caught. Hopefully people will be able to enter any business very close to I-20 without having to worry if their car will still be in the same condition when they leave the business as it was when they entered said business it, and anything left in the car will still be in the car upon their return. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, who'd never had their car broken into or anything stolen *knocks on wood*.

OctoberK - this is a considerably late posting, but I was just researching the past event for media details. I was the owner of the charger that was broken into at the Bremen Cracker Barrel. I observed the 3 individuals driving sloooow around the parking lot in the maroon car before I parked the car in a spot. My family and I where in the restaurant for about 10 minutes when I decided to take a gander outside out of suspicion. Upon exiting the restaurant is when I saw the individual close my truck and get into his car and flee. All items that were stolen, where concealed in compartments or in the trunk. Nothing was in plan sight. I was very fortunate and luck to be able to get my belonging back. Had it not been for the Police Officer at the restaurant, we would not have gotten our items back, and may have been victims of other countless crimes: check fraud, credit card fraud, cell phone charges, etc. The Bremen PD was very professional and I commend those guys for what they did.
