What are your shoes made of? Do you have any wool clothes? What's your purse made of? Your billfold? How about the upholstery in your car? Are you a vegan, or do you still eat fish, eggs and dairy?
IMO, if you don't go all the way when it's a moral stance regarding exploiting animals, then you're a hypocrite.
Just sayin'.
Shoes are made of man made materials, no wool clothes, fabric purse, don't use a billfold, fabric upholstery, fish stinks, eggs do too, dairy don't like me :)

If hunters did not help control the deer population a lot of them would starve, there is also the problem of too much breeding out of the same gene pool which causes a condition called wasting disease. there are more deer today than there were 200 yr's ago, In S Ga they are so destructive they are called rats with hooves, when deer hunting first started in Haralson county in 1957 there were only two days to hunt, we were always told never to shoot the does (besides it was against the law) now the older ones of us still have a problem taking the does since that is what we were taught, now we can take 12 deer a season and we are still over run with them.

You like to call people names don't ya? I don't care what you hunt or kill. I stated that I don't believe in sport hunting. Maybe I should make it a little more clear for you so you will get it. I did not say you could not hunt, I said I don't. Comprende?

Oh and for Wob, I know she will come back with more dissecting. I do consume dairy, sometimes it just doesn't agree with me but consuming dairy does not involve killing the animal to get it.

Ok, let's go with this logic about killing to control the population: Hmmm, let's see, take people for instance, there are WAY to many, many are starving, many breed in the same gene pool, there are more today than were 200 years ago, they are destructive not to mention a nuisance, harmful to mankind etc. I guess we need a "season" to kill and thin out the population. Think about it. Man is the most destructive species on the planet.

If half the human population died today, that would be the best thing to ever happen for the planet. I am not saying this as someone who wishes it, only the fact that human overpopulation will destroy this planet in the next couple hundred years.

We as a species have become much too clever for our own good. In the past, pandemics and the like kept the herd thinned out and the numbers down; we've learned how to keep things like that from happening.

While I wouldn't wish an pandemic on the human population, something drastic needs to be done to curb the population explosion. More couples need to be childless or limit themselves to one child.

The closest thing to those game ranches up north we have down here might be a wildlife preserve that opens itself up to a select group of hunters every few years, to help keep the deer population in check.

When I was riding the Douglas County Van Pool a few years back, one of the drivers did this. Every few years, she and her husband, along with a small group, would go up north to some wildlife preserve. They're only allowed to hunt within a certain time frame, and the limit might be x bucks and y does. She said it's to help keep the population in check. If I remember correctly, it's pretty much a lottery. Hunters interested in doing so will put their names on a waiting list, and then they will receive a letter or e-mail, letting them know they've been "drawn" to hunt this time around.

I support hunting wild game as long as you have intentions for using the kill to your own benefit, or the benefit of others. To just kill something, have the head mounted, and leave the rest of the body to rot isn't hunting; it's poaching. But, if you have the head mounted, and the rest of the carcass processed for roasts, steaks, sausage (which I wouldn't mind trying some, hint-hint), or ground, and either put it up in your own freezer, give it to friends, family, and neighbors, or donate to a homeless shelter, then by all means, hunt.

And for all hunters: May the winds be gentle and the skies be heavy. May your hand be steady, your aim be true, and your drag be short.

They do that at Berry College when the deer get too thick -- they have a lottery and open the land the school owns to hunting. It's not an every year thing, but I know the Floyd Co. hunters wait impatiently for a lottery year to come around.
