Why The Silence About John Holmes?

I have to assume that John Holmes had never accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. I do not know this for a fact, but gauging from the lifestyle he led, I would say that it is a fair assumption. FDR,JFK and Slick Willie all DO have monuments and libraries named in there honor.

Hello i ran across your reply
as for my uncle along time ago he did attend church and did know christ
but as he grew older
he decided to walk his own path
and he got into the porn . John was a very high strung , bullheaded person with low self esteem
and he chose that carrerr over even his loved ones

Just as people deny Christ
John Denied his family
and ran from God and in the end i belive him contracting aids was GODS way of telling him "THAT IS ENOUGH JOHN , and he was taken out of this earth . I dont know if he ever recieved Christ
i hope he did , but that is for GOD to judge .

John Stole from the family , put out lives in jeopardy, even stole from his own Grandmom
he would rather live like hell than acknoledge

in a one horse town that used to be pataskala
and his mom tried to raise him the best way she
could , but john was rebellious from the age 5!
my grandmom is a very Godly person and can you amagine the heartache she went through
watching her son die before her.
now she is 90 and she still hurts from the pain
the pain from not just what john did
bu the press , all the bullshit , and the movies
having it slapped in her face over and over
and yet the public still thinks hes a king?
people dont take in account what me and my
sister and my family have gone through .

Debra, I can not understand why all the hating about Johnny. You make it sound like he was some sort of monster. And for however much "damage" that you claim he has done to you, how is it that you say that he has been dead for 13 years when it is actually closer to 20 years?
He was a good Ohio boy who was brought up in an abusive environment. Have you never heard about the "cycle of abuse"? He left town back in 1960 for a reason, and there is a reason why he never came back.
He is a veteran of the United States Army, and for that alone he deserves our respect and gratitude.
And yes he certainly was an imperfect man. But you could say the same thing of the people who were responsible to protect him while he was growing up, who didn't.
Who is to judge? Maybe he reconciled with his Maker in his last days.
I choose not to judge Mr. John C. Holmes, who was a seminal figure in the American film industry.

John certainly was no monster. In the award-winning documentary "Wadd: The Life and Times of John C. Holmes" (which is NOT a pornographic film), any number of people said what a wonderful person John was:

Mr. Bill Amerson, perhaps John's best friend said of John "He was just a country boy, who would do anything to help anybody... except himself".

Joel Sussman, another friend reflected on John;s generosity: "John did not trust many people. But if he did trust you, he trusted you with everything". Sussman went on to say how John helped him to get back on his feet after a divorce, getting him some new furniture and even custom-designing a gold ring for him.

Even Sharon Holmes, his first wife, made it clear to the producers of "Wadd" and the film "Wonderland" that she wasnted John's life treated accurately...but with respect. She perhaps of all people bore the brunt of his problems. But even she saw the humanity in John and tried to understand WHY he was that way. She did not candy-coat John's life, and she explained why she ultimately left him. But she still respects him.

WHY did John get that way? Was it the church lady who had sex with him when he was 12? Could it be the series of drunken and abusive men who came into his life at an early age? How might ANY of us turned out if we grew up being vomited on and beaten by adults at that age? Where was the one person who was supposed to protect John as a child? According to Sharon (in the documentary "Wadd"), when John was 16 he finally said "enough", beat the crap out of his tormenter, joined the Army and got out of town. If you have not seen that film, I recommend that you do, and then you will maybe understand how John got to where he got.

And one final thing, you state that John infected all of these people with AIDS. Really? Please name just ONE PERSON who John infected. I do not need lots of names, just ONE. You won't be able to do it because it just is not the case.

John was a complicated man, and at times cruel. A reflection of the cruelty that he witnessed in the 1940's and 50's. And later in life when drugs entered his life, perhaps he became a lost cause. But many of us see in John, deep down, a good but troubled man who wanted to come out but could not figure out how. And we hope that in the end, he found salvation.

Condemnation of John Holmes is not the responsibility of we mortals.
