I'm sure that new oil is going to come oozing out of the pipe like warm syrup on a hot August day.

Is it possible to own land in Fort Berthold, be a Hidatsa decendent and not have mineral rights to the property you own? Is that what "minerals reserved" means? Who can answer that?

well i am on thin ice here but i will try and answer by asking you....Are you a member of the tribe? It is my understanding that the Tribal govt gets the revenue from all the mineral rights within the reservation and splits it up evenly among tribal members....so unless your a member of the tribe you get zilitch |

I am an enrolled member of another ND reservation, but have inheirted 160 acres of property in Dunn Co. section 20, from my grandfather who was Hidatsa. Via documents I have from the Bureau of Indian Affairs Inventory of Decednents Report it verifys the title and location of his estate and my right to those acres. But that being the case, you say, that the only revenue possible would be through even distribution of that tribe--right? What if I sold my land to an outside investor--then wouldn't I be free from having the tribe there evenly distributing the fiscal proceeds? Thanks for the previous comments.

I have no idea how that stuff works...i am afraid in this case, you better find a lawyer that knows tribal laws...

You don't have to be a member of the tribe but only need to have Mineral Rights that you may have inherited from a member of your family that was once a member (ie., grandfather who you inherited the rights from). For best results, contact the Office of Special Trustee (OST) on the Fort Berthold Reservation.

And be careful of little companies who want to "look after and market your land". Many tribal lands in the Bakken area have been tied up by such companies and development is far, far behind.
