I lived in that region for seven years, and it is my opinion that many people in the area are in serious denial that they have a gang problem.

I did my best to try to "clean up" a building that I lived in, but I received no support from other residents or members of the community. That includes the village and county officials, as well as two of the local newspapers.

Such things as shootings are normally reported because it is hard to ignore them. However, the parties that should be concerned are only reactive about the abundance of daily gang (and illicit) drug activity. This is especially true of the newspapers. I do not think that the editors want to portray the area as having such problems because it is bad for business.

you know this kinds of things are happening every where and it's not up to the police to handle it...oh wait it is. where are they? i know who did most of the shootings in my neighborhood, i'm no certified detective and it didn't take long. i'm not blaming the shootings on the police but where are they to make an arrest?
it's ridiculous how a 12 year old girl knows before a cop. and you think i could go to the police but for what. i mind my business i don't want my house to be next.

yeah wayne I hear you I have a daughter that is a senior at DCH and she tells me about fights and and who did what to who I do report the matters to the high school and to the police but I do have to admit sometimes things take a while to get done but as long as they try that is the point .

the problem is not a hispanic and black problem anymore because a lot of white kids from DC and SBH are joining gangs as well and the parents and don't even know .
