I am interested in this case, so please contact me at Boerner211960@aol.com. I went to Larkin at the time this took place and recently have had her murder on my mine. I understand 4 suspects were charged but later released. Can you help fill in some of the blanks?

I was just wondering about that myself. I did not go to school with her but I did live in S. Elgin when it happened and remember it. I knew her brother.

She must be trying to get our attention, as I too have been thinking about her lately. Someone, somewhere knows something. I remember when it happened - I also live in South Elgin and lost a sister that same year. That case always bugged me that they couldn't find out who did it! It's not like South Elgin was that big back then.

I have thought about her off and on over these past years. I went to school with her and hung out with her when we were younger. I remember when this happened and heard it was very hard on her family (especially her brother), because her dad either passed away not too long before or after her death (can't remember the details). She was a very sweet girl and I hope someone will come foward one day and give the family the answer I sure they have been waiting for all these years.

We do so want answers to what happened. There has to be someone out there that knows something. After all these years please come forward and let us know what happened. If somebody knows something please let us know.

Lori was so very young and sweet. She was a cool kid with a good heart. I don't have total recall of the events surrounding her death but, do remember thinking she was aquainted with the accused guys. I hung around her at the time and things were very different then...it wasn't odd to hitch hike or get a ride with someone you didn't really know.
The whole thing is sad and ugly, any remaining family - especially her sister- certainly deserve the answers they have searched so very long for. May she rest in peace...

We did not hear anything about brothers being questioned locally. Just wondering about that.

Actually the guys they arrested and later let go, were from Chicago and she was not ever aquainted with them. The police were going in a different direction after they let those 4 people go. I do think they were looking locally, but he was someone older.

To Family; I don't know if you're her sister or not - and it doesn't really matter. I was a friend of Lori's but not as close to her as "B.S." was. We had been hanging out pretty regularly (3 girls and 3 boyfriends) and I recall the evening she was 'missing', we weren't initially alarmed as she had been having some discord with her boyfriend at the time. We (the other girl and I) assumed she didn't show up to hang out as she was splitting off from him. Of course, our assumptions were very naive and wrong. Being that this happened over 30 years ago, I may be way off but - I thought the rumor was that the police found what appeared to be her comb and a car 'tool' in the accused guys vehicle. The group of us had previously been out to a large party and I thought the guys initially questioned were those Lori had briefly met at the party. Again, things were very different back then... I thought it was speculated that Lori took a ride from them on her way home from school? I've thought of her often as it was so tragic and unbelievable to think noone was ever convicted. I attended her funeral and remember her wearing an outfit originally bought to wear to a school dance? I had tried to initially follow the case and when they were going to do the DNA testing I was so hopeful thinking the suspects would be caught.
I can not convey how sincerely sorry I am for your loss. I remember her father dying and the circumstances around his death. I briefly dated Larry and was shocked to hear of his passing. Your family has had more than your share of tragedy and loss.
The sub-human, cowardly, wimpy, creepy punk, who beat Lori, a young defenseless girl, needs to be identified or come forth as he will certainly burn in hell for not 'owning' this despicable appalling and grotesque act. Someone knows who he or they are and may they have the courage to be a hero and come forth...these kind of monsters don't change with time!

I am her sister. They did find the comb and hammer in the car. The police did do DNA testing years later, but it turned out the DNA did clear them. Yes we are sad and really miss Larry also. Some day we may find out who did this and we will never give up until that day comes.

I also knew and was friends with Lori. I had spent the night at her house a few times. I was so saddened and sick over her death and the way it happened and still am. I did not know Larry has also passed and am sorry to hear that. My heart goes out to the rest of the family.
Back then there was a lot of talk over the surroundings of her death. I remember hearing about a van also, trying to recall the color and I thought she was hiking it home from drivers ed. I had heard kids around school had suspected it was some guys from Hanover Park, in fact being close to route 20 but were afraid to talk too much about it due to the guys having a bad reputation as it was.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
I would also like for this or these creeps brought to justice. Whenever I watch a cold case show resurrected by the advancements of science I think of Lori and wonder if the guy or guys who did this could be on file now for something else and possibly could be found.
I will always miss Lori and like the family wish for closure.

Hi K. You may not remember me- but B.S. and I (C.H.) were friends of lori's when the tragedy occurred. Being her older sister, I'm sure we remember you more than you remember us :-)
Thanks for the response;
Here I had thought that the DNA evidence was compromised due to degeneration and was totally unaware that it cleared the initial suspects. I had always assumed they did it as everything seemed to fit and point to them (the comb with hair that looked like hers, hammer/I thought it was a tire iron with DNA, prior aquaintance/meeting with them at the party, rumors afterwards, etc) If they truely are innocent what a shame that they endured such accusations. For what it's worth: I remember Lori as a vibrant, bold soul who had a great sense of humor and took a 'dare' if presented with one. I was pretty wild as a teenager and did my share of partying but, looking back on it - we were all normal kids. Lori was beautiful, both physically, and as a friend. I survived my youth; practiced nursing for 20 years, raising 2 wonderful children and having been married to the same man for 26 years.
I can only imagine what Lori could have and would have achieved were she 'allowed'. She was robbed of so very much...as were you and your mom and brothers. All my best regards. I will always keep her in my prayers. The coward(s) will burn in hell if not convicted while on earth. The one thing I find solace in is that whoever did this has to be a miserable deviant who surely is unable to receive or be loved/cherished. Having to keep such a secret must have made their life one of guilt ridden, joyless loneliness- at least I hope so. C.
