Congrats to all the Fox students on their Map scores. The staff and students again showed they are working hard and progress is being made.

Oh yeah, and we did better than Mehlville/Oakville too.....

Yep, teach the test, as long as those MAP scores are up there we won't worry about anything else.

That is a silly perspective.

The scores prove that the students are "capable of being taught" by staff who are "capable of teaching".

Period.

The scores prove that they are capable of teaching the TEST, period. Some kids would pass it anyway, others the only reason they can pass it is because of the intensive drilling on it's contents.

So what your saying is it reflects a real world situation, such as........

STUDYING TO DO YOUR JOB.

You can have kids memorize answers to pass a test, but then they don't develop the cognitive skills to think outside the box or solve problems that they haven't memorized the answers to. You can't do that for a job.
Geez

You are off base. Our children are not learning how to prosper in life. They are learning to get by. Barely. I know college graduates that have no clue that modify means change! If you don't have a basic command of the English language or enough math skills to know what your bill will be at the grocery check out lane, you may have a piece of paper but it isn't going to get you very far.

Considering Fox is probably doing no different then other districts I guess this is a good thing. I'm not a fan of teaching to the test either but it seems as if the schools have no choice based on what the state says.

I myself am a little old fashioned and like the thought of teaching the kids what needs to be taught all year and testing them at the end of the year without review to see how much they have learned. Nor do I believe that every kid should test as high as the next and that we should base the schools tax dollars on this test. In my opinion there is a lot to consider when it comes to how well a kid does with these test. Parents, teachers, how well a kid may test, amongst many other things. Now if you have a whole class that is below average in one area maybe you can look at the teacher but to blame the school and teachers for everything is nonsense.

I also believe that if a kid doesn't make the grade he/she should be held back. That's also just my opinion.

Let me first say, Great job students on your Mapp Test scores! This is a very high pressure time for them, regardless of whether they are just preparing for the answers to the test or not. Unfortunately though, I agree, there is no study guide for the real world, and good study habits, and book smarts don't work alone in surviving and thriving in real world success. I also agree that the school districts put a lot more into preparing the kids for these tests, than everyday study habits, such as emphasizing how important it is for the kids to eat a good breakfast in the morning (during these tests). Isn't it important every morning? MAPP tests or not? Just saying...

Many Topix posters just want to be negative.

Scores are good- well, Fox is "teaching the test".
(Sour grapes)

Scores are bad- oh, boy! Open game for a flurry of criticism and negativism! Yay!

Most of us want out school district to be the best and create people that can think and use deductive reasoning making them useful to society because they can figure out problems on their own.

Question: Are you aware that you are insane? Or...are you so insane you lack the insight to even be aware that you're insane?

A quick quiz: Do you superglue your knickers to your computer chair to ensure you fulfill your duty to all topic readers in enlightening us with your wisdom?

Question 2: Are you currently wearing a Princess Leia outfit from 1977?

Question 3: Have you ever been concerned that Kurdish yak herders are trying to hijack your computer to transmit meatloaf recipes to a retired Siamese twin colonel in Area 51?

Question 4: Have you ever conversed with your pets in French pig-Latin?(example: Arles-pay ous-vay ancais-fray)

*I've ignored you as a reader for years, but my goodness, you're a royal pain in the rump. Now, begin your tirade. Whine to moderators, threaten libel, etc. IT is old, old, old.

The answer to all of your questions is no. And I'm glad I'm a pain in the rump. It shows that I'm making people thing and ruffling feathers.

And how could you ignore me for years? I've only been on here less than a year. Flawed logic on your part.

You're very familiar with the Sybil reference. Maybe because you suffer the same affliction as Sybil did? Maybe? I'm thinking so.

Their post contained a lie. I haven't been on here for years. I've been on here for less than a year, Sybil.

I proved to Sam Ferry that this is not true. I showed him my phone during the meeting and that I was the only one logged on.

If I didn't post during the meeting, then how come there were posts by LUNN during the meeting? Please feel free to explain how someone can post in this board without touching an electronic device. Please feel free to talk to Sam Ferry.

They'll lie trying to come up with excuses as usual to explain it. But if you have proof and a witness then good for you.
