Thank God I don't live in Arnold. But I live just outside of the city limits.I just saw what the City Council did last night in paying $6,800 to Protective Services for the alleged report. I would like to know if Arnold has it's own sales tax, and what is the percentage. I hate to reward the City Council with my hard-earned $ when they spend it foolishly.

8.35% unless you are in a TDD area, then it is 9.35% there is another rate for Richardson and St. John's it's a little less than the 9.35, but more than 835

Depends where you shop.

All the sales taxes are voter approved.

Now with the Rock Township Fire District bleeding money because they spend so much, they jacked up the tax for personal and real property on their version of the no tax increase bond issue. Watch for that district to jack up its taxable rate like the school board did last year once voters approved their no tax increase bond issue.

Not so fast. There is a one cent tax added to certain retailers that was not approved by the vote of the people. Arnold had a chance to roll back it's tax rate on utilities but chose not to.

Don't go into the Arnold Commons. It's the highest rate of 9.35%. Shop at Home Depot which was built without any TIF money and never took away people's homes in which they had a lifetime of memories. Best to shop at Gravois Bluffs since they also built roads to accommodate the traffic.

Yes, in the spirit of cut your nose off to spite yur face, go support Fenton. After all, Fenton plows your streets and provides park lands and a police force for you.

The one cent TIF rate is voter approved. The city council approved the establishment of the TIF and the ARC TDD. That TDD also helps pay off the TIF bonds was approved by the member businesses within the district.

You may not like the fact that some old houses and businesses were taken down but as a whole, the city is better off now.

How is something that the council and businesses approved considered approved by the voters?

Wait, I thought that TDD stood for Transportation Development District, not supplemental TIF Payoff charge?

Oh yes, there is about two hundred thousand taken out of the TDD every year and it is put towards paying off the TIF.

Put toward retiring the debt years earlier. You know that Doris. It is public and has been right up front for you to see and discuss. You just chose not to do so I guess.

Wait a minute - go read up on it and get informed. It has been discussed at length in Topix.

You must be obsessed with Doris. This isn't about Doris it is about the sales taxes in Arnold and how high they are and that the people did NOT vote in the additional one cent that is charged in the TDD areas. Money is taken from the TDD and used to pay the TIF, is it legal? Maybe! Is it right? No! Every time $200,000 is taken out of the TDD, shoppers must spend an addition $20 Million to make up the payments on the roads. Is the purpose retiring the debt or paying off the developer quicker? You forget, they are being subsidized millions of dollars on their development that they are making money from, will the city council be subsidizing and paying homeowners back for building their homes here?

no you are Doris or at least something that came out her rear end. It was both legal and right. The town was dying. It was. It now is not. You may not like the mechanism the council chose to use, and neither do I, but I give them respect for exhibiting the courage it took to make a difficult decision like that. If I was on the council I might have made the same decision. It is water under the bridge and Arnold sales taxes are supporting Arnold and much of Jefferson County, our home. I would like to have seen Doris and Bob Boyer at the county level make a tough decision. Heck I would like to have seen them make any decision that betters my way of life. I read the Leader and see the stories on the Sewer improvements. I think it great that the county is wading into the idea of NIDs. If it was up to Boyer who moved against any such ideas in his first month in office, the residents of the county would be digging sewer trencehes with bear claws on the end of a stick. Like Doris, that guy's time has come and gone.

Over the years, I have had many citizens express the same thing to me about the Development. It was what was needed at the time. I am very happy with the progress Arnold has made as a result.
