Robert Fenton, I recommend the Wall Street Journal. A FAR better paper, and the people who deliver the Herald also deliver the Journal. I stopped my Herald subscription and now take the Journal. Glad I did.

To Saul Eisenstat and Robert Fenton...don't take Phillip Crawford seriously. How can anyone, honestly?
Most of the "refugees" left, not because the Israelis forced them to, but rather because their Arab brothers told them to leave.
So Palestinian Arabs left Palestine, their home for some hundreds of years, against their own personal interests just because someone in, say, Transjordan said they should leave?

This is like saying that, if our Anglophone "brothers" in Canada told Americans to move to Canada or Australia, we would.

There's a little more to it, but basically the Palestinians were welcomed to stay, but their " Arab Brothers" threatened to kill those who remained in Israel when it became a nation, and we all know how the Palistinians "Arab Brothers" have treated them since then. Not exactly with a welcome wagon.

Let's not forget, that 900,000 Jews were persecuted, murdered, robbed of their property and forced to flee 10 Muslim countries during these same years. 1/3 of Israel's population today is made of these refugees who were not helped by any UN agency. Many of these communities had been there for centuries, some before the advent of Islam. For their story go to www.jimena.org

That's an In the dark ..... dumbass analogy

Let's call the baby by its name..!!

The reason the Arabs left their homes, was a combination of fear, incitement of the Arab League Leaders that wanted to cleanse the area with the armies of six Arab countries and the excesses that some Jews must have commited on a state of war.

So, whatever the cause, whomever to blame, Palestinian Arab refugees left Palestine against their will. Not because they were "told" but through force or threat of force.

It's unfortunate that the letter in question makes the Palestinian Arabs' departure sound voluntary and makes Palestinian Arabs appear indistinguishable from "their Arab brothers," as if they had no roots in present-day Israel.
