Letters: Measure P will help disaster that is MPUSD

Full story: Monterey County Herald

Reading The Herald's Opinion page about Measure P and the student letters, I thought about how I would like going to work every day wondering if the ceiling tiles were going to fall, the heat was going to work.

I voted NO on P and advise everyone to do the same. If I thought the MPUSD administration and school board would use the money wisely, I'd have voted for the measure. However, any school system which lavishes perks on the superintendent ($9600/year car allowance,$1200/year for home internet, offering her $1200/year for a gym membership, etc.) on top of a handsome salary, when parents must pay for what little bus service remains, and must also "donate" for supplies for their children's classes, is not one that should be trusted to handle the bond money.

In PG they used a big part of our special school parcel tax to build an $8 million football field?

Now they want a library tax. This Measure Q is being promoted by an organized group of well meaning, but misguided residents. They should be putting all this effort into asking the city to control bloated salaries and big pension plans that allow employees to retire at age 55. I guess it is easier to be emotional about the library and avoid the basic spending problem?

The PG library will not close. In PG Measure Q is designed to increase the hours and city payroll.

PG has the money to keep it open four days a week. This is what the supporters of the PG Library Parcel Tax don't mention. Yes, Measure Q is designed to simply increase the hours and city payroll. Vote No on Q.

Joe and Lillian Eccher state that Rep. Farr only comes out during elections. They must only pay attention during elections. Rep. Farr has frequent open meetings throughout the year, is accessible by phone or on the internet and is alway responsive to questions and comments. Farr has been elected by large majorities each of the past several elections because he works hard for this district and reflects the positions of the majority of his constituents. These folks, Joe and Lillian Eccher, might not like his positions but they should educate themselves to Farr's efforts on our behalf. Perhaps if they'd pay attention to government between elections they'd know the real story.

Jerry Brown and Sam Farr are two peas in a podThey call themselves social progressives but in reality theyare social regressives. They are backwards thinkers who believe in big government, minimum of individual rights and hate self reliance. California is in trouble financially because of liberal, big spending, big taxing, overregulations on companies, and corrupt union leadership in cohoots with political leaders to overspend on public pensions, unfair intitlements. Neither Brown nor Farr will take on the illegal immigration correctly which will cause this state dearly. Both men believe in the corrupt, bankruptable, senior citizen hating Obamacare which will cause Amercians and all states more bankruptable policies and lead to a single payer plan where there is no private insurance companies just ration care health programs, with less doctors, much longer waiting for apointments and treatments leading to more deaths, sicknesses, and pain suffering for Americans. Meg Whitman and Carly Fiarina are successful businesswomen who believe in private interprise and self reliance. They are against Obamacare and want real healthcare reforms like cross state choices of insurance companies by customers tort reform whcih would save roughly 75 billion dollars to our national economy. These two women plus Jeff Taylor would start to bring Californias economy back to health which as at a 29 billion dollar deficit for this year. Whether your a democrat, republican, or a independent you have to vote for Whtiman, Fiarina, and Taylor if you want to improve the future of California and this country.

Ron the wise, if you think Carly Fiorina is a successful businesswoman, that is what is wrong with CA today. She is not a success in business, yes she is able to attain personal wealth, but at the expense of others, not while making them rich, too. And those 30,000 jobs she sent overseas, they aren't coming back. Meg Whitman is the biggest spender out there, if you can't see that from her campaign, then God help us. Just my opinion. But that stuff about cross state insurance is a red herring. It will mean in the end that the insurance companies only sell insurance in the states with the least amount of restrictions on THEM, not that there will be actual competition that will benefit us, they will quit selling in states that require insurance companies to actually provide a benefit to their customers, IMO.

CA girl, CARLY fiorina did not ship jobs overseas, we lost no jobs for California. What she did was to expand the market for her company which is a totally different thing. You are believing a stupid democratic campaign ad. The Japanese did that with the auto industry and it helped their companies and it helped Japan itself because those companies were able to expand in Japan because of their success.

HP was the gold standard of tech companies before Carly ran it into the ground and they are still trying to recover from her reign of error. She was fired for a reason.

Board members make $400.00 per month. You have bad information from the school district office.

7 members x $400.00/month=$2800.00/month

$2800.00/month x 12 months=$33,600.00/year

That is probably where the 30K number is coming from. Someone saw a budget entry--"Board members salaries- 30K" and didn't realize that was for all of them.

Maybe that's were its coming from?

I can't find an excuse for that one- except they will tell you it is customary and traditional for CEO's to get it, and that with an 80 million dollar budget and 1500 some employees that's what the market offers. No defense, just that's what the board and their apologists will say.
