To all who comment that it's fishy that 4 friends fell soundly asleep in a car. It's not fishy, that's what happened. The sad fact is that people fall asleep behind the wheel quite often. You are talking about 18 year olds who feel invinsible. NO ONE ever thinks it will happen to them, let only 18 year old kids. As far as the question "why are 4 18 year olds old at that hour, etc." Come on people - they had just graduated high school and they're feeling their oats. The parents don't necessarily know they are out driving around. Careless? Yes. Irresponsible? Yes. Predictable? Of course. 18 year olds have been doing this forever. Unfortunately this time, something absolutely tragic happened. It's absolutely horrific that this young man died. It also goes without question that the CHILD who did this will live with the guilt of it for the rest of his days. He is supposedly having an extraordinarily difficult time and is not the type of person who is at all cavalier about this awful thing that happened at his hand. People try to have a little compassion. As awful as this is, and it is absolutely awful, it was an accident. A terrible lack of judgement on the part of a child.

First of all, you all are mis informed from the media and probably this kids friend who's trying to make sense of the situation. First of all matt was'nt "walking home" he was on the gravel clearly 10 feet from the road itself. The car hit the boat and didnt even bother to stop...no signs of using brakes at all. Second of all. These kids were clearly drunk and high. The alcohol on their breathe was quite obvious,as well as bloodshot eyes. It seemed apparent to the people around that, this kid's family or someone he knew were the first one's on the scene. So obviously they told them that ohh YOU were just asleep, stick to that or some shit. Nothing will ever take away the pain and suffering of what happened. Truly a tradegy that such an incredible life was taken by stupidity.
So dont even take in for fact for a second that Matt was just walking down the street not paying attention.

Feeling their oats? is that what they call it nowadays? Looks like people are trying to make light of the situation. I know the facts. Cause i was there. Then the next day all of the sudden, these reporters are all over it asking questions to people who had nothing to do with the situation. Dont believe the newspaper, or this stupid article.

CloseFriendofMat ts: I really feel for you, but what you are stating is completely, patently false. As devastating as the loss of your good friend was, it is unconscionable for you to lie. I am genuinely sorry for your loss, but you are either misinformed or deliberately spreading a lie.

empathy needed, If you seriously believe that, you must be trying to mask what happened. You werent brian, or rizzy and the people who witnessed what happened. So take your 3rd hand perspective and shove it

Four people, sleeping in a moving vehicle, to include the driver, is the most insidiously erroneous slag I've ever heard! Matt was a beautiful individual both inside and out; I can't accept that he shouldn't have been out at that hour (he was 21 and entitled to be) If four 18 year olds are too tired to drive, they are the ones who shouldn't have been out...lease of all in a vehicle...they had to be dropping acid. RIP Matty...you are sooo damn missed.

It's been a little more than a year now, isn't it sad how these things go? I haven't heard much on he situation except what happened, and what the outcome of it was. I was a close friend of Matt's, met him a good few times and he was always so kind and nice. Though his appearence may have been "frightening" to some people, he was one of the nicest people in this world, who you could always talk to and he would be there for you. He didn't judge people, he didn't hurt others. He was a wonderful person, and never did anything to deserve this. What a tragedy, to happen and devastate his life and friends. I truly wish it could've played out in some other way. I don't really care what was up with the drivers of the car that hit Matt, but as I heard from my friend who was on scene, the car went off the road, hit a few things, then hit Matt. I think the "sleeping while driving" story was somewhat of a cover up, then again as I have said I do not care if they were stoned off their asses, sleeping or even wide awake. They took an innocent person's life, who did not instigate his fate. They should be punished to the highest degree, one's life for one's life is the way I would take it. If not a death penalty, life in prison, though I am in total doubt of it happening and have so far not heard of any prosecution of the drivers.
All I can hope is that justice will come for Matt, my friend, a truly great person who I will miss with every piece of my heart.
Rest in Peace, Matt Denmark. You will never be forgotten. Your image and music will live on, and your friends will always care about you and never forget you.

The answer to your question is VERY simple. He lived across the street, not two minutes away from the accident.

I hear Corey's parents are cops... I'm sure that has nothing to do with it though, right?

i lived down the road. They came from a bar 2 minutes away. How is it possible for them to make it thru a stop light on a turn less then 60 seconds from the scene? If they fell asleep they would have hit a building on that turn. They made it thru the turn and fell asleep in 10 seconds.. hit a boat and then hit Matt. That stupid kid got away with nothing. Matt lost his life.... and we all lost a friend. There is NO justice here.

Anybody who even thinks about blaming Matt is a disgusting human being with no brain. Matt was WALKING home because he is responsible and wasn't about to get behind the wheel of a car. If Corey and his idiot druggie friends had the same good sense, MATT WOULD NOT BE DEAD RIGHT NOW.

It was not a mistake or an accident. A mistake is forgetting to carry the two in long division. An accident means no one is at fault. This was murder, and it was all Corey's fault. Now he has to live for the rest of his life knowing that he is a murderer, and a liar, and not even human. I hope he is haunted every day by the horrible, unforgivable things he has done. Not even God would forgive him, he is a disgusting person and does not deserve forgiveness.

NOTHING happened to him. I think he even has his license. The judicial system and the cops here (which were also this murder"s parents) did nothing. The legal system is a JOKE, i will never have faith or trust anyone that has anything to do with the judicial system again. Not that i ever did. Corrupt f*&^ers.

In New Jersey falling asleep while driving is treated in the same manner as a DUI. Does NY do this as well? If not they should. I have read a few articles about this and the reports tell driving while asleep is actually more dangerous than DUI. I cant help but assume the kids were all high or drunk. I just dont think they fell asleep. It seems like they are covering up something. No matter what the driver will at least be found guilty of negligent homicide and thats a class D felony and he could serve up to 5 years for that and many years of probation after he is released from prison, Then of course he will be paying for this for the rest of his life when he loses in the civil tril that will likely follow.

Maybe Ray should actually know the whole story before opening his mouth. I better make sure i am not directly across the street of my home at a late hour.... cuz if someone hits me it must be MY fault.

at least HE gets to LIVE... bastard.... from what i heard he is still partying. It's bs that nothing happened to this dumb kid... the story was such crap.... i go down that road all the time... it's impossible to come from where he came from.... pass that light by the deli (he must have been awake then because he would have hit a building) and then fell asleep 1 second later and less then 10 seconds later he hits a boat and then matt. No0 jail or anything.... i friggin love this town.
