Now you spotted the staircase, just think about what would be next? How would you ensure your wall is plumb? Your door frame is square in order to have the door fit properly .....??? Stay away from them if you want to have a peace of mind b4 it is too late!

Chad wrote: I am in the process of building with Centex and we are in the Framing stage. I noticed that the staircase is off and mentioned it to the quality manager. There will be no excuses for my house "I demand it". Also I am a Database Administrator and my wife is a College Professor. We both have advanced degrees so we are not dense. We expect the best construction that can be done with the rather inexpensive materials being used regardless of the labor or the materials. Centex buyers and current owners have to face reality about their current Centex home. Centex, at least in the Indianapolis area, have cut costs dramatically to save face. They have nickel and dimed their subs to the point of no profit being made out in the field. In return, the buyers are going to get what they pay for. Centex has asked all of their subcontractor's to show their "books" to make sure that those companies are not making any more than 10% profit. Do you think Centex is showing their books? So you have disgruntled subcontractors that put together a horrible home. Centex raises their home prices and cuts labor costs and pisses off the people that make them money; homeowners and subcontractors. I personally would never buy a Centex home by the way they are put together and how the company is ran. Centex just wants you to get signed and get them closed. Yes, I work as sub for Centex because the market is horrible with kids to feed. There are a lot of other track builders out there that is far better than Centex.

Centex in Sagewood, NM is also CRAP.... The carpet isn't nailed down, (the nails stick through it), the lights turn on and off daily, (I'm only home 5 hours a night), etc. Oh, and good luck getting them to return your calls. Warranty department is never open or you get voice mail. Just thought I'd throw in my two cents. Oh and btw, when you buy a new home and you've lived there for 3 months, if the people who sold you the home haven't called you or sent you a survey even once, but every telemarketer that comes to your door said the salepeople were the ones that gave them all of your cell numbers etc., then you know you have a CRAP Centex home.

WARNING WARNING WARNING. Their subcontractors are so dense on blueprints they completely swapped my window and door when they started framing. I let it go for 3 days before I said something and they did fix right away, but they hid a lot of 360 kinks in electrical wire, left a lot of rocks under the carpet that you won't find until you aren't wearing boots, and tried leaving hand drawn pictures of naked women on my walls until I had them repaint on closing day. Get out now while you have a chance. They won't even answer your calls to fix ANY issues after you've moved in.

Our Centex home in Central Ohio has been terrible. We moved in March 2003. I wouldn't even know where to start with all the problems we have faced. I could write a novel, which might not be a bad idea. Nightmare on Centex Street.... The maintenance supervisor had no clue about anything. He was just a guy they hired to say no to everything. The only times we got anything fixed around the house was when we went directly to the subcontractors or to his boss. Centex has pulled completely out of Ohio now. I think it was because their reputation was so tarnished. Hard to sell houses when your custmers have nothing good to say about you. Our latest problem is that the front entry door is leaking again. They replaced the entire door frame once and replaced the laminate flooring twice by the door. They painted the door frame about 20 times. The whole house is just cheap and inferior. My suggestion is that if you have a Centex home just accept the fact that you bought garbage materials and spend the money to replace them yourself as they go bad. You can have them come out and fix it and then fix it yourself after the warantee is up anyway. If you are thinking about buying Centex or are in the midst of building one you have my condolences. Maybe I'll share some of the horror stories sometime when I have more time.

Issues with Chuck Bolen
Lancaster, VA
|
After living in the Felgate Subdivision in the Williamsburg area for 2 years, I am convinced Chuck Bolen will be the demise of Centex/Pulte Corporation. This man is incredibly crass, divisive, arrogant, self important and in my opinion, has the potential to be a very dangerous man. He is incessantly talking about cage fighting, domination, lunch hours at the strip clubs while his wife lives 100 miles away from him in oblivion. The undercurrents from his personality are equally disturbing. He can talk circles around anyone without giving the truth. He treats the homeowners as if they are a nuisance to him and he is doing them a favor by returning their calls. I am not sure if he has ever spoken the truth when I have asked him for a straightforward answer. These are the topics of conversation he would initiate with me, a Centex home owner...there have been many times when we have ended a phone call and I am left scratching my head wondering "What the hell just happened here?"... As they say, "Fact is stranger than fiction"... Has anyone else had similar experiences with this cretin?

As a homeowner, Chuck Bolen has been a nightmare to work with. My husband I were so happy to find out Centex was bought by Pulte and we can only hope Chuck Bolen will be replaced as soon as possible. Everyone in our neighborhood has had issues with him. With that said, the rest of the staff has been a pleasure to work with...the neighbors and I have said we feel sorry for the other employees who have had to work with Chuck Bolen at Centex.

STAY AWAY from CENTEX
Los Lunas, NM
|
We have a Centex "home". Their customer service is HORRIBLE. Foundations sinking, house pops and creaks, sub par materials, doors and windows out of alignment, just plain GARBAGE. Los Lunas, Huning Ranch...they screwed so many over in this subdivision. And to the person who IGNORANTLY thinks the problem is non American workers...Guess what buddy, it's American business owners who want profits above quality. They STEAL from their fellow Americans this way. Blame your corporate run politicians for making laws that favor a few Americans making A LOT of money by screwing A LOT of Americans with cheap labor and crap products. Centex is NO DIFFERENT and make huge profits for their shareholders and board of directors at the home buyers expense. I wish they would just go out of business and let REAL homebuilders do a better job.

How do I contact Centex to complain about my home in Central Florida. Our chimney/ fireplace has been leaking water in our home for some time now. I tried to have it fixed, I've tried to have someone else fix it, but I think there is something fundamentally wrong with the construction. Is there any way, being the second owner of the home, I can get them to fix it? How do I get a hold of them?

Robin wrote: We built our home is PA - Wayne Homes (division of Centex) in Delmont/Greensburg PA 1st Problem: There is no lateral support for the roof trusses in the entire house. 2nd Problem: We contacted and have been seen for a sqeaky floor problem, Wayne came to "fix" and it's now worse. 3rd Problem was fixed by a private electrician because although Wayne was contacted, Wayne came to the house, it was determined that our outlets were not installed properly, the Wayne home electrician shoved the unproperly cut wires into the back of the outlet and didn't even tighten the screws and shoved the outlet back into the wall. Then Wayne came when we called about it and they said they were not fixing it because it was not their problem. We had it fixed by an electrician so our house wouldn't burn down. There are many other problems that we are currently in the process of having a contractor find and fix. ***We paid a lot of money for our home, we expect that at least the house be built to code and safe for our family. Nobody short staffed Wayne Homes when they wanted paid, now I want the "house" I paid for and was promised. We too built our home in PA - Wayne Homes (division of Centex) in Delmont/Greensburg PA. Backward trusses…a serious and obvious mistake. No lateral bracing. Squeaky floors…so we thought. Rather… the sheathing was not fastened to the floor joists thought the entire house. The list goes on and on. They come off as professional and friendly, but when it comes to quality and standing behind their work... it's just not there. Beware of the arbitration clause in the warranty…. It’s used like a shield. This warranty protects them - NOT YOU. Don’t be forced to accept EXTREMELY poor repairs regardless how many times it takes them to get it (maybe) right. File a claim with the Department of Labor and Industry AND with the Attorney General Office. Make your claim public. Don’t be taken!!!!
