Is anyone else shocked and angered that there was a proposal in the first place? Check out the article at the Carmel Star ---it seems the proposal was killed due to public outcry, but could easily have slipped through the cracks giving council memebers compensation (via health benefits) totalling $18,000.
http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article... Their compensation as part-time public servants is only $15,000/yr, so they should not be in this for the (our) money, not to mention voting on ordinances to more than double their compensation at our expense. I would welcome comments or corrections to my post from Mr. Rider and Ms. Snider and/or the others who initially supported the ordinance. |

Noblesville's city council members receive these benefits.

Kokomo and Indianapolis as two extremes have benefits for the council. |

And that makes it right? There are also many U.S. Congressmen who approve funds for what I personally consider to be wasteful and silly uses of our tax dollars--does that make it right? So I guess the "Noblesville and Indianapolis does it too" argument doesn't work for me. I'm glad the Carmel voters weren't asleep at the wheel on this one. |

Should we also provide 401K benefits to council members where the taxpayers match dollar for dollar the contributions of the council members? Providing health benefits to these part-time public servants is a slippery slope, imo. |

BTW, to JTF and NM, I hope it didn't sound like I was on the attack... I appreciate your comments---JTF in particular I've seen many of your posts and enjoy. This issue just hit a "sore spot" with me

I never said that it made it "right" or "wrong" ... I merely stated that the city council members in Noblesville receive such benefits. No need to attack! |

Again, my apologies. I took your statement of fact as an endorsement of the policy. And either way, I responded poorly with my choice of words. |
Same here........I was just pointing out that Carmel wouldnt be all alone if they ever do offer the bennies. It is a dead point now. |

I'd rather see them do something about lowering my healthcare costs instead of trying to get their own paid for. Probably not much a city council can do about that though |

You need to listen to Ms. Snyder's introduction of this ordinance before you label her. She introduced the ordinance and went on to support it only if the council members paid the full $18,000 premium. It was Rider who was taking care of himself. Believe me, he won't be here commenting. He's somewhere on Main Street with his head in a hole. |
