These Places are an insult to the profession of massage therapy. Reason being that the therapists who work there do not get paid what they are worth.Of course people love it, they dont get to pay what they should be paying for the body work they are recieving. Its a defect of society to not want to pay the value of something that is quality, they want to pay less and go for the "great deal", blame the recession in our economy for that and the fact that America outsources everything to give us those "great deals". The corporations out there want to capitolize on therapists just starting out of school. The only positive that i can say about these places is that for a beginning therapist its a good place to start because you are constantly doing body work and honing your skills as a therapist, however, we as therapists still get shafted by these "Mcssage" places. They make a killing off of us. So just remember all you frugals and cheapskates out there. We put 100% into the work we do, and like the food service industry we exist on your gratuity. The very LEAST that you can do for US at these places is Tip us well when you get off that table.
RN only make 30 to 35$ an hour a massage therapist at massage envy make 25 to 30$ an hour with tips. Rn goes to school for 4 years get over yourself

Hi Karen, I used to work for this massage envy. I think I might have worked on you a while back. I just wanted to comment that the Palm Harbor Massage envy is actually run better than most. Beth and Bryan are very nice people (the owners) Not all massage envys are ran this way.

All I can say is I went into this profession to HELP PEOPLE FIRST. The amount of money I make wasn't my main goal. Massage is a stepping stone for some people who learn the basics to find a job that will pay the bills. So then they can continue school in the feild they like. Starting out at massage envy is helpful to improve on your personal skills and you can learn from others who attended different schools. Plus not having to fork out any of my own money is helpful cause you can save to one day possilbe open up your own spa.

Nurses also get paid vacation, disability insurance, sick days, health care, 401k plan, and career progression. RNs only have to go to school for 2 years (NOT 4 years unless you do the BSN management career path), which is the same length of school as LMTs. Get over YOURself!!!

On a more serious note, this is not much different from the IT industry outsourcing for cheap labor or the Wal-Mart-ization of Mom & Pop stores all over the country. It may be a great "business" model, but it squeezes those who are caught in it for the good of the corporation and bottom line ($$$$). I won't shop at Wal-Mart because they are the worst offender, and I won't go to Massage Envy (there is one near by me). I also say a therapist who looked like my mother in law, and I don't want to be massaged by that!

Neither do the true therapists. Your post is insulting to your colleagues in the health care industry, so here's a fair response: How many nurses are in the business just to find, sleep with and marry a physician? How many nurses steal meds by giving half a dose to the patient and the other half for themselves? How many nurses "radio" the progress note without ever walking down the hallway to check on the patient? If all of you were doing your job instead of whining, the malpractice attorneys would be out of business!

Here's another one for you:
Q. Why do nurses have sex with their eyes closed?
A. Because they can't stand to see interns smiling.

Q: What is the difference between a LMT and a prostitute?

A: Prostitutes don't take appointments!

I think it's very revealing that you chose the moniker, "Hot Nurse." Not "Caring Nurse." Not "Competent Nurse." By using this moniker, you're telling the world that since you have no talent, no intelligence and no integrity, you have to use your "hot" little body to get ahead in life. How sad. And you're passing judgement against LMTs?
