This article is more evidence that if you commit a felony as a teenager, you will probably commit felonies as an adult. If a child starts using a gun to commit crimes at 15, nothing is going to change. We need new laws that lock people up forever when they use a firearm while committing a crime. The 17 year old's name appeared in 36 police reports! He had already been charged with armed robbery at age 15! LOCK THEM UP FOREVER! The death penalty should be considered here as well.

At this point, I am not sure we can afford to worry about who pays for it. We can't let this problem get any worse than it is. We are all going to pay for it one way or another. Besides, if prison was what prison was meant to be, it really wouldn't be that expensive. We have made it expensive by giving them everything they want, except freedom.

Quote," Shorty wanna be a thug!" He tryin to prove he's hard and get respect. He already knows where he will end up. Three hots and a cot. It cost 35,000 a year to lock a man up. More then that boy will make in a life time. The government already knows it's cheaper to give hand outs then a prison sentence.

The 15 year old was already on "home detention with a electronic monitoring device" for vehicle theft. The 17 year old had 26 priors with juvi. The news also reporting they pistol whipped and robbed a women in her garage before they shot the man in his driveway.

is there a country where one has a finger or a limb whacked off depending on the offense? these perps could be trained then to do various types of labor. even get a pay check once a certificate or a diploma is given. i should think that one could be rehabilitated and put back to a useful society. but then, there would be those who would fight to the death to be able to handle and to shoot a gun..lest the hands are whacked off. there would be a lot of nicknames such as stubby.....

Well, I agree with you on what the problem is, but think about it for a minute. Can we stop the "baby daddys" from running around and impregnating 10 girls? Can we get the moms to stop spreading their legs? Can we make the hip-hop industry change their motto? What can be changed, that we can actually change, that will make this stop? Exactly! The answer is that we can't force anybody to change so the only thing we can do is lock them up when they prove themselves to be a threat to civil society. I blame musicians, and Hollywood for the problem as much as I do anybody. Nobody is emphasizing the need for good role models for these kids.

Try reading Athletes with Illegitimate Kids. The leader so far was Calvin Murphy with 14 kids by 9 women. The numbers are staggering.

The United States currently by far has the highest percentage of it's citizens behind bars.

In order to lock everyone who commits a gun crime up for life state and federal tax rates would have to increase significantly. The figure would be at least 25%, probably more. We'd have to build and maintain hundreds of thousands of new jail cells to house the offenders.

The number of people on public assistance would go up too, because many families will lose their primary breadwinner to the penal system.
