Tommorrow is FATHERS DAY and many people will be visting their loves ones who have passed away to show respect and leave flowers. Today my mother and I did just that. We had to pull weeds away from my fathers headstone. The grass hasn't been maintained, nor had any of the cemetary been weeded. It is an absolute disgrace. We of course cleaned the head stones, but the grass and weeds were unbeliveabe. You would think the owners would not allow this to EVER happen, especially on a special day like tommorrow. This is not the first time the cemetary has looked so disgraceful on a holiday or any regulary day. I am ashamed that my deceased father is buried in a place that doesn't care about thir client's or deceased relatives of potential clients. Please let these people know how disgraceful this is if you have a loved one here. I will be contacting their office and the news media if necessary to get someones attention. Bless you all.

I believe that because most all, if not all plots have been bought up that these people just don't give a crap about the looks of their cemetary. Matter of fact I've seen a sign in the cemetary itself tht reads, "TWO FOR ONE" SALE. Who the hell would allow that???? I would tell anyone that has bought plots there or are thnking of buying one, or maybe the "2 for 1 SALE" they are allowing to be advertised to TAKE THEIR BSINESS ELSE WHERE.

This cemetery, Highland on Gulf Hwy, and Hixson's in Lake Charles and Sulphur are all owned by Service Corp. Int'l based in Houston. SCI is the largest funeral service corporation in the world. SCI DOES NOT answer to the families they are supposed to serve; they answer to their stockholders only. This is the same company that owns the cemeteries in Chicago, Florida, and Los Angeles which were recently in the news for descecrating graves, moving buried bodies in order to re-sell the graves, and other atrocities.
Prien and Highland cemeteries are not maintained by local companies. They have people come from Beaumont to do all the work: did grave, mow grass, etc.
They should be ashamed of themselves, but they aren't.

Well, why does this not surprise the heck out of me. I tell you I will check my families grave sites on a more than regular basis now for sure. These people will answer to a MUCH HIGHER POWER one day. Money hungry low lives.

Oh, by the way, Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, Westlake, etc, as well as Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home are owned by SCI, so don't expect much in the caring department from them, either.

I totally disagree with some, if not all, of the comments made. I have dealt with Highland-Prien Cemetery and both Hixson Funeral Home in Sulphur and Lake Charles. I have been completely satisfied with the services and the compassionate staff at all the aforementioned places. I will agree there was a point where the grass needed attending, however, we need to remember this is Louisiana and we did get a lot of rain this summer. When I have made requests from the staff at the cemetery they have ALWAYS treated me with kindness and they have fulfilled all requests I've made.

I am not sure where your loved one is buried in this cemetary however, the staff at the actual funeral home IS COMPASSIONATE AND FRIENDLY, what else would one expect when they want your services, however rain or no rain, their grounds need much MORE attention than they are getting on a more than frequent basis especially if they have a contracted company or not. HIXSONS should require more from them and pay for that service, Lord knows we have paid them for ours. STILL dissattisfied with their regards and respect for our deceased loved ones.

I have also used the services of Hixson and was very pleased with the professional staff and the compassion they gave. My loved one is burried at Prien and like other cemeteries i visit sometimes it looks great and sometimes it don't. I understand the weather can determine the conditions of the grounds and when the grass gets cut. Everytime I had a concern I reported it to the office and it was taken care of.

You've got a taste for adventure today, so you might decide to depart from tradition in some way and make it an unusual Christmas.
